Wonderful. Looks good. Reminds me of flagpole my father erected in our front yard back in the early 60's. He built it from scatch with a long and straight douglas fir tree. Block and tackle was used to raise and lower it for painting and maintenance. He was handy too. You guys do such a good job and certainly not afraid of tackling what needs to be done.

Sure would of been a sight to see her trawling lines out. Shes looking good I really like the look of her now with her new facelift. Cant wait for the plastic to come off and the new bulwarks put on shes gonna fish as good as she looks.

We’re going to build aluminum forestays for them once we wrap up some other stuff.

Hope the snow missed you for damage.

Don't need them that long if your not trolling. Many would take the pole tips off for other fisheries, and put them back on for trolling. I've seen a few pole tips go under water in bad weather. Less chance of them breaking when they are shorter.

Yeah thats for sure. They’d wobble all over the place when they were long. Just really hard to manage all that weight.

I didn't notice if you have the name of the vessel on the bow or stern yet. Lots of work on that pole to get it to where you want it.

Long jig poles. Must of had a bunch of lines when she fished Albacore.

We could take them off if we wanted but life is good with them in a choppy sea. The canopy in the center we’ll likely remove just for offloading catches and gear. The aft shelter will stay on for the time being.

Great video all. For the uninitiated (i.e. me) what do the stabilisers stabilise? And how do they work? Many thanks.

Sure, they are basically a board that exerts downward pressure when the boat is moving forward. This pulls down on either pole and stabilizes the boat in a rolly sea state.

The bottom of the poles aren’t capped so we’re good for now. However we’ll be fabricating a pad-eye for forestays, top line and the staby fish to come off of and at that time we’ll cap the end.

Formerly they were to spread out trolling lines in southeast. Thats why they were so long. But since we dont have that kind of fishery here its not necessary for them to be that long. Now they’ll just function as stabilizing poles when at sea.

Are these not run on a power winch of some type?

Too funny , if it takes 4 people to let down a outrigger pole how many to screw in a light bulb. Ha Ha

I don’t understand why you are cutting the poles, I would have thought that with the size of the boat, the longer stabilizer poles would be needed to do a proper job when they were in the water.

Nah, the extra length only made them unwieldily. The length we cut them to is still plenty long to provide ample stabilization with the fish in the water.
