Trimming Hatch Cover and Gel-coating Stringers - Emerald Isle: Ep.94 Fishing Boat Refit

Welcome back!
Today, we continue installing stanchions and we also get the stringers cut, sanded, and gel coated. The stanchions are the support that will hold up our stringers from the underlying deck. They'll be mounted using 3/8" lag bolts with a copious amount of 5200 calk to seal them off. Lastly, we trimmed down the rim of our forward hatch cover, the sides were lower than necessary.
We want to say a big thank you to our Patrons and all others who have sent us gifts or have purchased our seafood. Also to all you viewers who have watched, liked, subscribed, and commented on our videos. You all make us so happy and proud to share our way of life with you.
In this series, you'll find us doing many different things to refit the boat. From framing and fiberglassing to fabrication and welding.

    I appreciate your attitude of “wast not want not” saved a lot of money and trips to town by having a metal scrap pile by shop.

    Your videos are quite comprehensive in the work that you all do. I'm a retired technology & engineering teacher and I love to observe all the different processes on the project. Over the decades I have taught most of the stuff at one time or another. Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see the finished job and fishing.😊

    do you have an estimate on time before the big boat is ready, and are you going to christen her the "Big Fish Tail"?

    It’s a shame that you don’t have a cobalt filter for the camera. I don’t blame you though as they are very expensive and you won’t need it after this.😊

    Hey guys what the hell happened to that beautiful hold since the last time we saw it, the place was white and shiny clean - now look at it? By the way Len how does it feel, from a crab perspective, to be locked in the tank? 🙂

    Didn't catch the live but watching it now. Didn't see a way to comment so commenting here. What happened to the halibut catch you had that was supposed to be custom shipped? Ended up having to sell it wholesale? Hopefully didn't lose a bunch of margin on that. Some of the gaps in the false deck are pretty wide. Planning on recutting those boards you don't slip into the wide cracks and twist an ankle?

    Thanks Chris. Our custom processor paid us going ex-vessel price, so not a total loss. In all fairness halibut can keep 2+ weeks on ice if cared for properly, but our expectations and pledge to our customers is not in line with timeframe. We have always told ourselves we would deliver the best seafood possible and we are sticking to that! All the deck boards are 3/8" spacing. The ones you are referring to are still loose while we finished welding out the bulwarks.

    Knowing you guys, I’m sure you’ve already thought this through but how in the world are you going to keep it clean under the false deck little fish, guts, and blood and stuff that’s gonna stink later.

  • @nnasab
    @nnasab3 ай бұрын

    Did you think of how to clean the main deck after you installed the other one on top. Fish guts and blood will make it unhealthy to be in that dick. Unless you have hinges to lift that top layer up and clean without unscrewing everything.

    I wouldn't worry so much about the look of your welds, that makes it all so time consuming. Just get the job done. You know your welds are plenty good, and stanchions aren't exactly show pieces, so just get on with it.
