TRIMMING APPLIQUE BLOCKS FOR QUILT AS YOU GO: The Quilt-as-you-go Chronicles Ep 9

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is episode 9 of The Quilt-as-you-go Chronicles; in the next ten episodes, we will make a mystery quilt-as-you-go quilt called I, Valentine. Each week we will construct a section of the quilt and show you lots of tips and techniques, as well as delving into all things quilt as you go and sewing. In this series, you will learn how to machine applique, free-motion quilt, and quilt on a home sewing machine. Also, you will discover two great methods for quilt as you go and see how we make an entire quilt from start to finish on our domestic sewing machine. You can sew along with the Pattern Poole community and us; all you need to do is head to our website and purchase the course to have the PDF patterns emailed to you weekly.
Today Monica is discussing her process of how she trims her applique blocks, ready to join quilt as you go.

Your quilt is getting more beautiful every time I see it. Thank you for this video. Back in the 1950's, my Aunt (who was a school teacher) made herself a new dress to work in. She used nylon thread to sew her cotton dress. She gave her new dress a good ironing before going to bed. The next morning she wore her new dress to work (school). Things started going wrong after she walked into her classroom. Her new dress started coming apart along the seams. She had to send an older student to our house with a note (asking to borrow one of my mother's dresses). We lived less than a block from the school. Mother sent one of her best dresses; however, Mother was a big woman and my Aunt was tall, flat, and thin. Mom's dress was a bad fit; but, it was better than nothing. I wasn't old enough to sew; but, I remembered that lesson learned the hard way. Don't put high heat to nylon (and to many other threads and fabrics). Use the correct thread for the fabric you are working with. My Aunt bought the nylon thread (because it was cheaper than the cotton threads). Even teachers make mistakes.
