I just bought one of these new and there was evidence that the package had been opened. The motor had a slight burning smell without having used it. Watching this video I am starting to have doubts about Makita's quality in that it must be a common enough occurrence for you to make this. Do new ones smell a little of burning as brushes settle in?

if the product has no traces of wear then it is new, normally to make a test before sending for sale it may smell a little burnt, on the new brushes they also have some small unevenness that is uniform in operation

@@nelservice6579 Thanks for replying. The company accepted that it must have been opened with the damaged tab and internal packaging and manual.They said that it was new and not a returned one, and offered me a choice of a return and them sending me a new one or a £15 discount.The body looks new apart from minor scratches. I will take the discount rather than have the hasle of an exchange as long as they offer the warranty. I just did not want to keep a burned returned unit, as I will only be an occasional user and not be able to properly test it working for some time.

So basically just buy a new one? Lol
