Great video as always, thanks. I have been using this type of ramp system for about 5 yrs now. The top part of the ramps I have drilled a hole and put in a drop pin through the ramp and into van/truck bed to keep ramp at appropriate distance apart for my trike wheels, also my dog trailer wheels. At the bottom of the ramps are holes again and I have a flat piece of aluminum with bolts so I can hook them together to keep the same distance apart as the top of the ramps. When not in use the flat aluminum piece can be slid/rotated underneath one of the ramps for out of the way storage. I used to have 5 ft ramps and they put my angle to steep to load and unload my trike. I recently bought 8 ft ramps and when I tried them I was overly excited to get the extra length. Yes, these ramps actually come with pins attached but I haven't had the heart to drill holes in my tailgate. It is a good idea.

I use the telescoping ramps as well, but rather than pins I use masking tape on the tailgate to mark where the centerline of the ramps needs to be.

Yes, you will probably want to put one with front wheels facing back and nest the other with front wheels facing front. Using ramps is a bit more complicated. You might consider getting 3 ramps - one for each wheel..

I just bought a set of these from a different company to accommodate myself to getting my trike on a rack i built for my hitch. Great minds think alike

Best decision you could make. Tgrt where right. You travel a lot and now you have always your own home with you, what also gives you more freedom. I also prefer to keep my trike safe. In the back of the truck is a great solution. That taking in and out looks very easy. Triking seems to be very good, because you look a lot younger.

@@emiel1976ep yes, with all the restriction camping is difficult. At least with the trailer I have control over my environment to stay safer from the virus. It's going to be awhile for everything to return to normal.

Great info on the Silver Springs ramps Sylvia. I have been considering buying a set to use with our Silverado 4x4 and HP Velotechnik Scorpion +26 with Shimano Steps. I currently use a Hitch Rider Trike Rack... which I like. But I'm always looking to make my life a little bit easier. Thank you... Keep on Triking!

Hi Sylvia, I use a Dodge GrandCaravan with the same ramps. My Trike loads easily with the ramps and I secure it inside to keep it from moving around. It’s been about a year now for me as well. I bought the van in March last year and really like having it. I just turned 67 so this setup has worked well for me.

Upon your recommendation we contacted Discount Ramps & wound up buying the same ones you have. These have been a wonderful investment. We have a truck with a canopy as well. For us it has been a perfect fit. The camper allows for a base camp with the truck being free for great day trips & rides with our trikes. Thank you so much for all your great tips. 👍♥️

I bought a Hollywood rack for the back of my Trax last year. I'm able to get my terra trike in the car but have to put all the seats down including the front seat. I'm 70 and so far have been able to lift the trike onto the rack. I'm looking into getting ramps to wheel it up. Always enjoy your videos to see where your rides take you. Right now our wind-chill is-15. No riding for awhile.

Hi Sylvia, I’m 78 and use a Dodge Grand Caravan with a 2x4 homemade ramp ($10). My electric motor is in the rear wheel so the front of the trike is lighter. I pick up the front and push the rear wheel up the ramp and it works fine for me.

Yes, good point about the weight of the motor being in in the rear which changes how you get the trike in and out. I'm glad you found a solution to keep riding.

I love your ramps, Sylvia. You make it all look so easy. My TerraTrike Rover barely fits in hubby’s Lexus SUV even after removing the basket & lowering the seat. Needless to say, the only place we ever take it is to the bike shop! Stay well. Nancy S.

That is, talk about rv life, is the rv the solution you thought it would be? Any regrets buying a trailer? I have a Honda Odyssey. Rear wheel goes between the middle seats.When I acquired my trike some of the "CRABS" were already using this system. Didn't have to reinvent wheel.lol Always great to see your tips.

Sylvia, I have a similar setup. Scorpion, F150 w/6 1/2’ bed and same ramps you have. Also pretty much keep my trike in the truck most of the time. But today we are enjoying 5 to 10 degrees, in the middle of a cold, cold wave. Dang, this global warming is a bummer.

This has been my plan too! Looking for a travel trailer to fit my very tall husband! That is our plan when we retire in a few years.As far as places to stay, I just watched You,Me and the RV youtube last weekend and they had a whole segment on finding reasonably prices campgrounds. I want to try out some COA campgrounds or Florida water district locations once we get on the road.Glad you are safe.

Hi sylvia we have something in copmon we are but were both good you have as good point

My wife and I use the exact same ramps. We got them a year or so ago. We use three ramps so a fourth sits inside the garage in case something goes wrong with one of the three others. We have IceTrikes Adventure models which also use Shimano E8000 electric assist. By using a third ramp you avoid lifting the rear and can store two trikes side-by-side where one faces forward and the other is backwards.

Yes, that is a good solution. I've seen other trikers use 3 ramps. Any heavier and I would be using 3 ramps as well.

If you want to be lazy, use a wood center channel and use the electric walk feature on the trike motor to send it up the ramp! I have a Ford Transit Connect passenger model with seats removed. It’s so low to the ground I no longer need my ramps. I just lift the rear wheel in, then lift the front end in. 1/2 the weight at a time-easy!

Thanks for this video Sylvia! You already told me about the ramps but nice to see the video. I also went for the 7' option as my Super Duty is high probably a bit higher than your 150. I also ordered a shell! The down side is I can't take my scooter but for the trike and bikes I feel much better having them in an enclosed area. My e-assist for my Scorpion fs 26 is about 8K (went with rohloff hub upgrade as well) and my newest bike is over 8k so I don't want to have them on a bike rack on the back of my trailer. Just had a safety recall on my stove on the Lance Trailer fixed today so once the shell and e-assist are here (probably April/May) we are ready to roll!

@@TravelsByTrike I got a letter from Dometic. They sent a letter out just like you would get if your car had a safety recall. Turns out it was 3 black rubber washers (one for each burner). But for the oven burner they used the correct red washer. The black washers were already beat up just from instillation at the factory. The fix was quick but when I bring my trailer home I have plenty of storage (have 3 small sailboats plus the travel trailer all in one end of my driveway) but I can't turn the trailer around so I have to hook up a one wheel tug I have and manually turn the trailer around before backing it into it's spot. Later when I have more backing practice I may try to back the trailer up the driveway, but it is narrow and steep so it will be a challenge but it could save me the hour it takes me to do the tug thing.

What brand/model shell? I bought a 17 f150 long bed, for my 82” long Greenspeed Magnum XL.

I love your videos. They are always very informative. I'm going to test ride a few trikes in a couple of weeks. One of the brands I'm interested in is HP velotechnic. I was just wondering if the trike you ride is a rigid frame or one of their folding models?

Most of the HP trikes fold. My trike is a Scorpion, which I call the Mercedes of trike. I've had it for 8 years and it is still going strong. Congrats on getting a trike - you will love it.

After my TerraTrike Rambler was stolen off a rack on my Forester (with today’s cordless tools nothing is safe) I replaced it with a GreenSpeed Magnum XL which folds and goes in the back of the Forester. I would suggest covering the trike in the back with a black flat sheet, helps keep prying eyes out. Some areas are safe in and around PS, Ramon Rd isn’t one of them. Especially in Cathedral City, no bike lane and the sidewalks have power poles in the middle of them.

I'm sorry your trike was stolen. I understand about taking precautions too. I. have blankets to cover my trike and also a way to lock the trike inside the truck bed if I need. The windows on the canopy are tinted dark and seeing anything inside is hard.

Truck cap manufacturers, offer security screens to put inside the tinted windows. If you simply cover the windows, people will think you are hiding something expensive and break in.

Hello Sylvia.. you can fly with ebike batteries.. And you have to choose to put a "non-Propriry" assist like the Bafang mid drive.. Shimano, Bosch and others require that you buy their batteries it won't be compatible. Justin at GRIN Technologies in Canada, has a set of LIGO battereies. each 100ah battery (the legal limit to take on flight) connects/stacks to create a 36v with 3, a 48v etc...you can also buy extra to have extra backups.. they are expensive, probably not as expensive as a truck/trailer. But this gives a lot of flexibility when traveling overseas.. You can send the LIGOs ahead of your trip to a hotel or PO BOX. then retrieve them when you arrive. Each of these can be separated to meet the flight requirements. then when you get to destination with your trike, you simply put them to gether like lEGOs and you have a battery to use. This is one of the reasons i didn't by the Steps, Bosch or other proprietary systems.

I have heard many people suggest GRIN LIGO batteries and it is a very interesting idea. So far, I don't know anyone that has actually used them. I have no idea how they fit together and how big a package an equal energy storage to what I have will be. I also don't know that I can use GRIN batteries with the Shimano Steps. All batteries have electronics that get read by the controller. I would love to hear a review of the GRIN battery system especially from someone who took them on a plane to start a tour.

Problem Proprietary systems like Shimano STEPS, Bosch and BionX is that you must use their proprietary batteries that have chips that communicate with the controller/motor. The STEPS are really great until you want to fly. The other option is: buy another battery, and ground ship it to your destination overseas 2 weeks in advance. Send to the hotel, friend, or a PO Box there. and take your charger with you so you can charge it once you arrive.. Remember, as Justin of Grin Tech said, letting a battery sit in storage too long while it is slowly leaking charge will kill a battery if it volts drop too low or completely discharged. You need to monitor batteries being stored, Make sure they don't freeze,don't get too hot, and put a slight charge on them every once in a while to keep the cells healthy.. Some countries have a battery exchange program. When your battery runs low, you simply go to charge boxes, and get a fresh battery. This is a subscription plan that you pay monthly for. But this means that you don't have to carry spare batteries, just find a charge box, put your code in, drop the low battery in, and grab a fresh battery. Your on your way.. The USA is not that advanced. LOL

Discount ramps doesn’t carry the 4-7’ extension ramps but Titan Ramps does. $202.00 appx..

Sylvia-I have the same trike as you and I am 81. I simply wheel the trike backwards towards my CRV and lift the back wheel onto the CRV tray. Then lift the front end up and wheel it in. No need for any ramps but your vehicle looks to be a bit higher than mine so it may not be possible?

I bought the Silver Springs ramps online from Discount Ramps online.

It's to bad places like Batteries Plus don't have a setup to rent out Batteries and that way you could travel to your country of choice and rent the Batteries that you need and return them when done and not have to worry about transportation. So let's say you want to go to England so you take your Trike and leave your Batteries at home and you have emailed a place close to the airport and reserved a set of batteries and when done return them and move on to your next country and do the same.

Yes, it is a shame and would make everything much easier to rent batteries. I think many of the e-assist systems have proprietary batteries and differing connection plugs too. It's possible to ship batteries to your destination but it's slow, the shipping costs are expensive and you need to know you can trust the receiving party at the other end. You also won't have batteries for you trike once you ship them. I've never taken a trike with e-assist on a plane and it should go as a mobility device but I'm not sure of that either,.

Sylvia, does anyone carry insurance on their trike? Also, your estimating that your trike is about 70 lbs. Are you including other items you have on the trike other than the weight of the motor?

I think you have insurance through your home owners or car insurance. I've heard that e-assist trikes require a separate policy. I haven't ever bothered with it because I never had a home or a car. Now I'm wondering if it is covered with my trailer insurance. I'll have to check - good idea!!

Yes, the 70lbs includes water, tools, lock and 2 batteries with e-assist on my Scorpion trike.

If you wanted you could cut a surveyors stake to the proper length for the width of the ramps.

Thank you I was just wondering how you got your trike in and out of your vehicle and I think it’s really interesting and I would love to do the same thing I do have a fat tad e trike and I’m smiling all the time when I ride it but have a trailer to transport the trike. I live in northern Minnesota and we have a paved bike trail from Gooseberry State Park to Silver Bay Minnesota and it’s lots of fun you’re welcome to come up and join me anytime.

Have you ever discussed how you afford all this stuff? How do you tour much of the time? Are you retired or have some sort of residual income from something? I know my KZread channel couldn't even buy me dinner more than a couple times a year!

Yes, I know what you mean, I'm not making any money from KZread, haha! I have a pension and now I'll be able to get social security as well. My lifestyle is very inexpensive. Not owning a home or a car for so 15 years really kept my expenses to a minimum. I have lived suck a very minimalist life that now living in a 17ft trailer feels luxurious!!

@@TravelsByTrike ..that is some “minimalist” lifestyle. Congrats for being able to pull it off! I recently bought a new Toyota Highlander hybrid so I can fold down rear seats and slide the trike in and also use a Hitchrider rear rack which is just an awesome product and also has a tilt function for easy loading and unloading when I travel point to point so I don’t have to load the trike inside the vehicle. My Catrike 559 folds but I hate folding it as one gets greasy and it is tough to maneuver and place in a vehicle when folded. I have also damaged/destroyed derailleur and hangers when loading in folded position. The ramps are a great idea especially when trikes get heavy...but I don’t have e assist on my 559 and find it quite easy to load it inside simply by lifting the light front end to a point where the wheels rest on the back end of the vehicle and then simply lifting the rear and rolling it in. Btw... I just flew home to New England for granddaughter’s 3rd birthday on Valentine’s Day. Temps are 10-25 degrees. I rode the Cape Cod canal twice in my Catrike Trail( 15 miles roundtrip) in 17 degree temps. Fleece insulated riding suit and gloves and I was fine.....but NOT happy. Flying back to Palm Beach tomorrow for the rest of the winter. Stay well. Best wishes. You are very resilient and adaptable to live that lifestyle. My idea of “ roughing it” is a Hyatt Regency!

Pandemic? Oh ya, that. It seems so long ago. I bought a 126 lb. Worksman PAV3 low rider (due in Nov.) and it would be nice to get it onto my little pickup truck. Hello Sylvia.. You look happy and healthy. :) I'm in process of moving to Tillamook. I would like to get some information on suitable recumbent trike paths.. I see on: theoregoncoast.info/BikeRoute/Map.pdf that many of the routes (some of Hwy-101) have a +3' shoulder. Some do not. Can you suggest a good Bicycle MAPS for the Oregon Coast that will show safer places to ride..? So glad to see you doing well. Ride Safely my friend. Robb

Good luck with your move, Tillamook seems like a nice town. I don't know much about riding in that area. I think Oregon DOT has maps for the whole state. You might want to ask on BentriderONline or FB recumbent/cycling groups. I'm sure there are recumbent riders in the area.
