Erin, I love watching you experiment. I have an entire lifetime of experience with these foam rollers. If you wear them to bed with the plastic clips, you're not getting ANY real sleep of any kind. Additionally, the plastic clips leave horrible demarcation in the hair - so here's a foam roller hack for you, from myself + my grandmother ❤ 1. Spray or soak the foam rollers with a non-aerosol hairspray... It doesn't have to be expensive it can be a simple $3 brand like Rave. This will help give your rollers longevity + properly allow your hair to adhere to them. 2. Remove all the plastic clips + toss them in the trash... they're uncomfortable, unnecessary, poorly designed + cause a lot of breakage. Replace the plastic clips with Bobby pins. You can slide a bobby pin at the base of the scalp right in through the roller hole. If the roller, has been put in evenly + on-base, it will only require one bobby pin. If not, you may have too much hair + you will want to reroll, or you can try adding a bobby pin to the opposite end as well. When you've finished your foam roller set, wrap a scarf around your head + grab your neck roll pillow... This is the best + most comfortable way to sleep in foam rollers 😘

So, I'd definitely use Mason Pearson first with a little mousse. Then use a wide tooth comb for 1 to 2 passes to create definition. If you want to prevent the ends from looking frizzy, a looser roll using end papers to secure and make sure your subsections lay flat the whole way to your ends. Could even put a bit of teasing in to help give more structure and direction to the final look with a light once over to smooth with a boar bristle brush to finish the look. Edit: Your end results are amazing, and I wanted to share the way I'd do a similar look. There are tons of ways to go about roller sets, and there is no right or wrong way. What works best for you and gives you your desired results is what you should do.

Seeing these foam rollers makes me so nostalgic. I grew up doing Irish step dancing competitively, and we had to have our hair curled for competitions and we would use the pink foam roller, sometimes green. But we'd always roll them loosely without squishing down the foam (or my mom would, until I learned to do it myself) Rolled the curler tightly all the way to the scalp but rolled the hair more loosely around the foam, without squishing it. Roll toward the scalp, but away from the face. When you roll it too tightly and it pushes the foam down it's basically like you just used the blue ones. The night before start with damp hair and if the rollers feel too loose after You've done them just use tie the head scarf tighter to keep the rollers tight to the head. When done this way different size rollers do make a difference! ❤

Whenever you take out sponge rollers on a wet set, try using a light oil on your fingertips to pull apart the curls to reduce frizz instead of using a comb
