Tricky Question: Exothermic or Endothermic?
Need help? Ask me your questions here:
vespr.org/videos/5130b7d29d534...
Is this process exothermic or endothermic? Actually, it depends on what we consider the system, and what we consider the surroundings. Every process can be exothermic or endothermic, depending on your point of view.

I am having difficulty with understanding equilibrium and the formulas. I really get chemistry through your videos.
you should get a nobel prize in teaching chemistry you are such a good teacher that i have understood the difference just in 3 min which i was confused for the last 2 weeks
that's a really tricky question! here's a hint: the potassium nitrate is the system, and the water in the beaker is the surroundings. so which direction is heat flowing? from where to where?

lmaoo this comment 6 years later and i'm graduating with a Master's degree in biological chemistry :D thank you Tyler DeWitt for the excellent chemistry videos!
I love the elegant way you present and explain by making complicated things easy. That is the most difficult thing to do. You are a first class instructor. Thank you.
Thank you Tyler, without you my BA degree would not have happened!
Thank you for addressing this! That’s what trips people up when they are starting to learn this material! Awesome as you are specific. 💛
this guy presents everything in such a way that the most boring concepts become engaging & interesting
Thank you so much for making these videos. They help me so much!
I wouldn't be scratching my head out often if you are my teacher , thank you so much!
You are terrific, thank you again.
props to you for helping me up my chemistry grades through your clear explanations
Your description is simple and clear, very useful, thank U.

your videos are the best , I'm passing science cause of you. thanks
your videos are so great, they help me a lot,you should do a video on on equilibrium because I need help with that:)
ohhh you make me understand how to know Exothermic or endothermic! i am so happy and i hope you make a lot of video about thermochemistry that i can study from you.
Hi, I really love your videos ! You are helping me a lot. I would like to know if there are videos about equilibrium expression? and Equilibrium molarity? please let me know ! thanks very much Erika
This is an excellent video, great explanation and visuals
Sir You the best teacher 👍👍👍👍👍
Wow. Thanks for that. I love the visuals. Very clear & simple. I love this guy. I love anyone who can make things so easy. :D
as expected from the best teacher in the world......sir
Will there be any change in endo or exothermic reactions if the quantity/concentration of reactants is changed?
You are an amazing teacher. Thank you
i love the demonstrations that really helps me to understand better ......
Great video; lol did anyone notice he spelt "endothermic" and "enodthermic"

Hey tyler, i had a question in my biology notes im not quite understanding. "When potassium nitrate dissolves in water, the beaker containing the solution gets cooler. is dissolving this salt an exothermic or endothermic process?" i initially thouht it would be exothermic as heat is energy and the beaker is cooler, therefore heat would be leaving. but ive recently been told it's endothermic and dont understand why. thanks in advance for any help.
Love you - thank you.
hey tyler, would you have any videos covering equilibrium? your videos are amazing btw, you really have a gift for teaching :)
@ramezalzraikat6542

yes he does
and if the system is the beaker container, it's both because it's accepting (endothermic) heat from the flame and transferring (exothermic) to the liquid, right?
hey love ur vids! quick qeustion, how do i know if something was done ON the system or BY the system?
I LOVE YOUR VIDS BTW; HELPS SO MUCH IN CHEMISTRY
thank you for making this topic easier for me
Thank you Sir! Still useful today though it was uploaded 10 years ago!

I usually watch it fully first and rewatch it by reading, I realized that he spelled Endothermic as Enodthermic

OMG! Thank you for explaining this I thought I was going crazy!
HI MATE WE'RE FROM AUSTRALIA. LOVE YA VIDEOS.
you are Amazing, saving my life thank you!
After about 5 hours of trying to understand the difference, Tyler Dewitt saves the day in 1.5 minutes (playback speed x 2)
what is the difference between an endothermic process and an endothermic reaction???
Thank u so much for u. i rarely comment any one your really good to teach in simple way. I need on video about Differential scanning calorimetry.
where are the other videos at the end of the video?
@Haris Zafar so what? Should we kill him because he made a non-important mistake???? By the way he teaches chemistry he may seem to be an alien but guess what! he's a human so he can make a mistake but anyways only stupid people focus on mistakes with the size of an atom man try to be different minded and focus on the great information this guy give us I'd love this dude as a teacher in my school
you are amazing, Thanks a million
I love you, you make me love the chemistry
