Triceratops Cousin Provides Missing Link In Hornhead Evolution

Ғылым және технология

The horned dinosaurs are some of the coolest. They weren’t the biggest burliest most untouchable dinosaurs. They weren’t the epitome of armored. They didn’t carry around spikes or clubs on their tails nor bony armor under skin and keratin. Yet, they were still absolutely enormous, surpassing most large land mammals alive today. They carried around skulls larger than just about any living terrestrial animal with frills, horns, scallops, spikes, and the maneuverability to wield such a weapon against predators, friends, and foes alike. As time progresses, more and more are found. Each new one continues to prove that they had an incredible diversity we may never fully get a full grasp of. A brand new one has just been added to the busting at the seams list of ceratopsians from the American southwest. This one was hiding in plain sight - meet Bisticeratops.

Anyone notice the ceratopsians’ discoveries are much like the giant ground sloths’? We found so much of them in one location that we wonder how they all evolved without competing into extinction?

It would help these make more sense and be mire informative.

@@hrpdrp97 I was thinking something more like the epochs and ages within each period of the Mesozoic Era, maybe other eras too like the paleozoic and cenozoic Make each period its own video. Basically a general history of the earth and large regions as a whole thag explain how and why we divide things and the evolutionary, geologic, and environmental trends during each division that seperates it from the adjacent ones.

We need a ceratopsian named “Tatankaceratops”, which would translate too “Bison-Horned Face”. It would also be funny, since the original specimens of Triceratops were once thought to belong to a prehistoric species of bison. They even gave it a scientific name, Bison. alticornis.

I can't help but have ambiguous feelings about brightly colored ceratopsians. They certainly look vivid and pretty... but we see no such thing occurring currently in any lineage of big animals. Big mammals, reptiles and birds tend to be rather dark and dull in color. Sure, there are exceptions, like zebras and some antelopes and deers with bright markings. And of course domesticated animals - but they are not the norm.

  • @onandonitgoes5957

Maybe cassowary could count as one, but their colorful markings are on the head mostly, not entire body.
