I just sucked at art lol I traveled to Europe and spent a summer there and went to a million museums but at the Louvre saw Mona Lisa. Much smaller than I thought and a huge crowd around it. This painting not so much, but a lot of his paintings look like random splashes of color, until like the last five minutes, where he draws in a few more detail lines, and suddenly, Farm! Up until the last few finishing lines, you can't even see where he is going with it...and then in the last few moments its a masterpiece. As the guy says, it looks like a photograph.

He did have his own paint brush and paint supply company most of the paints he listed and used in the episodes were from his company. Boss Ross also taught painting lessons for a price, providing the paints and brushes from his company, at craft shows when his show was starting to take off. In the mid-late 80's my mother won a place in one of his painting lessons from a ceramics piece she painted for a craft show to promote her store, and she still has the painting she did in the class. "The unlucky are nothing more than a frame of reference for the lucky, Mr. Fisher. You are unlucky so that I may know that I am not. Unfortunately, the lucky never realize they are lucky until it's too late. Consider yourself for instance; yesterday you were better off than you were today, but it took today for you to realize it. you would be surprised how often that happens in art. It's a bit like taking a couple of run-up steps before jumping across a gap. You carefully measure the smallest possible mark you can make, and once the seal has been broken, and you're committed to the decision, you can widen it and detail it until it looks like it was always meant to be. It works in painting, it works in writing, it works in engineering. Baby steps often lead to some beautifully marvellous manoeuvres, and, like the other fellow said, being unafraid to make mistakes to see where they lead. The trick is that you have to be patient, and thoughtful, and VERY careful, like you're handling delicate glass, because the first step is so crucial to the mistake being something you can turn into a master manoeuvre. It also works in interpersonal diplomacy/therapy; the most delicate broaching of a sensitive topic can prepare a person to receive firmer, potentially harsher advice. I think it's because the universe appreciates when we treat things with respect and care, and rewards it with grace.

He usually made 3 copies of each painting. First he made 1 before the episodes were taped (all of the episodes for a given series were taped in a single week). Then there was the one made during filming with the original "reference" copy set up off camera for him. Finally he'd go back and make a final, more detailed version for the books that he also helped to create. Many of the paintings were donated to the various PBS stations that carried the show so they could be used for fundraising.

Bob Ross actually never meant for those Paintings to be in an Art Gallery. They are Teaching EXAMPLES. He wanted to teach you how to do this. HOWEVER The Smithsonian's American History Museum recently added two of paintings, his easel, palette, brushes, and other “Joy of Painting”-related materials to its collection.

Yeah the Bob Ross Society only let's a few paintings a year out for showing.... The list is long and most get denied... The majority of Bob's paintings are in a nondescript office in some small town not on display buy in storage.... It isn't open to the public at all..

I know that myself and many of my friends grew up watching Bob Ross with our mothers and grandmothers. Special memories are attached to that man. I have a close friend who's grandmother painted her wall and door to her apartment after watching a Bob Ross video.

Mukhtiar is honestly one of my favorites, a young man so well versed and open to intricacies of the world. I love them all and I'm ashamed we abandoned them to extremists in these current years. As an ex Marines I have nothing but respect and admiration for these people and their philosophy.

I truly love the spiritual nature of these people. Things aren't just good, or great, they see them as gifts, gifts of God. It's very humbling. Thank you.

The look of pride on her face when she said she painted a house all by herself was priceless. I painted my own house a few months ago and it was a challenge and there's lots of stuff that needs to be taken in to account. Now I know why people would rather hire a painter but I also feel pride whenever I look at my house and especially when people compliment it.

He got so fed up with having to be loud and mean that he made it his life's mission to go a full 180 from that for the remainder of his life. www.wearethemighty.com/intel/bob-ross-air-force-drill-instructor-becoming-televisions-beloved-painter/
