Remember in those far off pre-internet days? You'd have your collection of Cyril Freezer Railway Modellers, Peco 60 plans for larger layouts (cos we'd always dream big) and those gorgeous Tri-ang catalogues to pore over (I tended to find the dublo catalogues a bit cold and clinical) and there'd be the intercity, or the blue pullman or a freight liner set. All those wonderful sets full of colour and excitement. The modern catalogues, maybe it's because they've gone from 20 pages to 300 or something, but there was always something in the Tri-ang artwork that photos just didn't and don't carry. Gosh your channel just brings back, not only memories, but it brings enthusiasm back as well :)

@NewModelRailway1 legend :) there were some good plans in there. Strangely enough at the back of larger layouts there was the exoticness of hekuva state railway. It's a bit like going to Scarborough every year for a holiday, then coming across a brochure for St Moritz... Tbh it was the Tri-ang blue pullman for me, made my dublo suddenly look old fashioned

Hi Oscar, what an amazing set with such lovely box art too! I think that catalogue probably represents the pinnacle of Triang. So many incredible items with things like the Dublo engine shed, the electric locos with all the catenary and all its associated paraphernalia, Minic Motorways, a plethora of lovely sets, its almost too much to take in! Thanks for another wonderful video Oscar. Regards, Antony

What a refreshing change. From old triang tracks to old triang engines and stock. Buildings bridges . Very very good . I had forgotten what good stuff this really was for the toy market. The amount you have and the way you have laid it out is a real joy to see. 1st class young man . This is my 2nd look at one of your videos. And it is excellent. Now the one i wathed 1st watched 1st was your chlorine wagons . And i asked about a certain screw for the chlorine wagon . Thanks to your help I was able to obtain screw to hold the body together . For that alone i am very grateful to you and the souce you provided proved a winning success . So thank you very very much for that and Top markes for that and this beautiful triang tribute . Of yesteryear. 😊

Good morning Oscar. The footage at 5.00 was the beginning of my Triang_Hornby hobby. page 15 of the Edition 13 catalogue had me enthralled with the passenger train formations. Six months later in 1968 at the local hobby shop (Tunny's of Turnpike Lane N8) I was a little disappointed to find that RS.9 was no longer available but had been replaced with RS.90 and the lifetime of collecting had started.

Hello Oscar. Thanks again for another fabulous video. I loved seeing your rake of Tri-ang Pullman carriages charging around your layout, pulled by that cool vintage locomotive. About 30 years back I was in a local hobby shop here in Vancouver, British Columbia & I spotted a set of Tri-ang Pullmans on the ' odds & ends ' table the shop owner always had set up with miscellaneous items for sale. I couldn't leave that store without buying those cars. I have them on display in my flat. Always wondered how those Tri-ang UK prototype Pullman models that I bought that day ended up in Canada. There were some British trains in the Canadian issued Tri-ang / Hornby catalogues I recall from my boyhood, but I can't recall Pullmans like yours & mine being in the Canuck catalogue. Again, thanks for another enjoyable video.

Hi, thanks for looking in. Terrific to hear you enjoyed seeing Pullman run around the railway as you say it makes you think what the history of those coaches you picked up have, I know Canada was quite a strong market for Tri-ang for a time, but I'm not sure of the full range of products they exported, I've seen in Canadian catalogues there is quite an interesting mix of British models as well as was designed for the Canadian market. Take care. Oscar

Good morning Peter it was a definite improvement put the cable type around the top of the motor. It holds everything nicely in position, all the parts were drifting apart, the cable tie is a really tiny one I got in a pack of random size and coloured ones from a pound store some years ago, they've been really useful. I should've bought two packets... All the best. Oscar

So the fellow then kicked the snail yards away. 3 days later . There was a knock at the door . The fellow went to the door , looking around saw know one then looks down. Thank you Oscar. Another interesting video. Don't apologise for spending time looking at the catalogues with your expert commentary on them being food for thought. Elsewhere in the comments someone reminded me of how inspiring the early track plans publications were to me. I suggest you might think of covering some of the track plans publications too with your thoughts on them. I am especially thinking of the circa 1963 first elaborate version with the colour photographs of the inspiring display layout that Triang put together for the publication . R.288 rings a bell. This also had the parts list for each layout and the circa 1962 total UK retail cost of the track and other parts required. The prices printed seemed so much cheaper than the Australian prices that i had worked out for even the simplest layouts. Model trains inspiring currency arithmetic for me for pleasure and not an imposed task. The massive multi page and fold out layouts were especially inspiring and had me thinking how they would operate or could be improved on. To this day i wonder if anyone had ever constructed those ultimate layouts and hopefully recorded it in some way. Alternatively an ambitious task for a Triang collector group to exhibit.

Good morning John thanks again for looking. I do have an early trying railways trap plans. Book for four there was some truly amazing layout and those it would be a good idea to have a look for one of those in an upcoming video. It makes you think as you say, how many people made some of these larger ones, but terrific inspiration. The layout I made as a child was more or less plan 9 from the 1979 book. Take care. Oscar

Please think of Oscar's wallet when asking this question? I have gone down that path, and it is not easy? Unfortunately, Tri-ang upgraded the Minic Motorway mechanisms to better motors and drives, but at the same time, went backwards from the easy "rolling" pick-up, to a "friction" type, (that wore badly and would "stick" on points and crossings)? Spare parts are not so easy to obtain as those for the Railways either.. Re-furbishing track insulating rubber, is another factor to think of as well? I too love the Minic Motorways a lot.. But The railways are easier to enjoy (and afford)..

Good morning Oscar, it's Martin from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire. I am running a bit late today as I fell asleep in my chair last night and when I woke up it was gone two of clock in the morning. But I am ok now. Lol. Well as always Oscar ive just watched your wonderful video about your great intercity set with the green class 37 and the lovely Pullman coaches. I remember many years ago when my son Ben was about 10 years old we went to the model railway exhibition in the Hull City Hall, it was always held on a week end and was always very popular, sadly, and for reasons I don't know it got moved from location to location and I don't know where it is held now. The city Hall is more or less in the centre of the city and i always thought was the best place to hold the exhibition. Oh well, time moves on, but i remember when I used to go to the exhibition I remember seeing a green diesel pulling a rake of Pullman coaches. But the person who owned the train had super detailed the interior of each Pullman coach with real cloth for the windows and carpets, in fact everything you would find in the real coach, and also with passengers and staff serving the passengers. The atension to detail was amazing, and all in OO scale, and lighting was fitted to each coach. What an amazing site to see. I am sure that if sound was available in those days it would have been fitted. I often wonder what happened to them ? Well, thank you once again for an amazing layout Oscar, now it's time for my cup of tea and a toasted tea cake. I hope you are feeling better now and your family as well. That's the problem when you all live in the same house that germs get passed around. Keep safe Oscar and have a good week next week and ill see you next Sunday. 👍🚂

Good morning Martin running a bit late myself this week just catching up with some comments this morning. When I'm tired, the moment I sit down in front of a television set I fall asleep, they used to be model railway show here in North Shields at the Parks leisure centre each year, it was moved from that site a year or so before the lockdowns and has been a number of locations since the pandemics ended. I'm sure I've just read somewhere that it is returning to the Parks leisure centre in 2025 it was always an excellent event quite a large affair with a lot of exhibitors and plenty of trade. The coaches sound terrific hopefully they were pass on to somebody to enjoyed from many years, Thanks again for looking in take care. Oscar

Hi Oscar.. Please look after yourself and the family.. Get well soon.. The large Pullman train looks great making it's way around the layout.. I think that we could manage to run a similar train (but with mostly "Anne" coaches) and a Car 79 at each end? At the moment we have a Red Princess pulling a 6 car train of red Suburban coaches (brake coach at each end).. I'll suggest a swap to the head engine driver (Grandson) for next week.. I also like the Blood and Custard rake of coaches behind the Albert Hall loco, but alas. We do not have one of those locos? We are trying to fit a second "crossover" between the layout circuits to allow better (more) shunting, by adding another short passing loop.. Watching your layout has certainly "inspired" more work on the home layout here? Thank you Oscar? Some very nice memories from the catalogue.. We love the old Tri-ang catalogues and wonder if the Dublo ones were as well liked? I don't seem to see many of those from the 50s and 60s... Or they may be harder to find outside of Britain? Do you have many to show us? Thanks for another great video.. Rob & Charlie......

As they say, there was a cold going around. Great to hear you and Charlie are having fun with the railway. It's always interesting when you think you want to insert a new bit of track or joint something up and never turns out to be quite as simple as you might like. I think I'm at maximum track at the moment with the geometry of series 3 and tin plate three rail... I've about three or four Dublo catalogues some of them are more foldout pamphlets. They don't have quite the same level as excitement as Tri-ang promotional material. All the best. Oscar

One of the reliability issues in the hobby which might cause reservation to joining the hobby is track laying. The suggested method of track fixing was nails entered through the plastic sleepers . Would it not be preferable to have some thin sheet metal brackets which could be screwed in rather than nailed or glued?

I started with, and preferred the Triang grey base series 2 track for that easy of fixing aspect. It had two or more countersunk screw holes in each track piece. My father was pleased to see that, and gave me a jar of the appropriate number 0 wood screws to fix the track with, in addition to showing me a spike device to start the screw holes in my five ply plywood baseboard. Over the years I made lots of changes to the track plan I used with the screw method providing a damage free method of fixing track down and taking it back up. Unfortunately many other aspects of the series 2 track were not very good. This was something Oscar found out when he used some about a year ago.

They fit very nicely through the pre-made holes and sleepers.
