You can pick your own 24 random words and instead of "create new" in the first step, select "restore"

I see most setup videos recommend a google chrome download to setup the trezor. I did download google chrome, but also in the setup a google app extension was recommended to interface with trezor. Upon completion of the setup and shutdown of my computer I noticed that an open application called "Elara" was still running. I looked up Elara and it doesn't sound good. I uninstalled google chrome and that Elara open app went away, so it was associated with google I believe. Is the google app extension ok to use ? Thanks for your video

Great video, but my question ( which has never EVER been answered) is this...if the Trezor website ( and also this applies to the ledger website as well) goes down, and you want to make a transaction, what OTHER websites can you go to in order to make that transaction ,or recover your assets? The code in Trezor is all open source. So sure someone will quickly develop another platform to make transactions.

At the end of the day most crypto wallets are compatible with one another. You can always use the seed phrase to restore your wallet to another device (for instance a ledger) or to a software wallet and sign the transactions using that new wallet. The seed phrase is the key (that is why is so important to protect it).

Hello. I was setting up my Trezor and hit the next key before I got the phrase down and now my Trezor isn't any good. It was the first Trezor that came out. If you haven't gotten an answer, your best bet would be contacting the manufacturer.

You said its ok to disconnect the device at anypoint, as in there's no need to click "safely remove hardware" before disconnecting??

Yes. The Trezor wallet just holds your keys, so when it's idle, there is no direct communication between the computer and the wallet. There is nothing to be interrupted by just unplugging it.

The Trezor website is terrible for support. How do I add "supported coins" eg. Loopring (LRC), MakerDAO (MKR), Cardano (ADA) etc. to the Trezor Model T. As a newbie, I haven't been able to find anything anywhere that clearly explains how to do this.

Hi this is a common question, your private keys are not stored by any company that is stored on Blockchain , so you can always recover your funds by using any other trezor compatible wallet.

You don't download anything, you just 1) Buy one here: www.castig.org/trezor 2) And then go to trezor.io to get started No downloading! I also have a Mac Book + Chrome. Works great!

I already bought my trezor but I did not want to use the chrome extension because I prefer the safari. I saw that you have the option to download it for Mac OS X instead of using chrome

I asked. "With the new bootloader version, there is no fingerprint confirmation during the initial setup. Only when there is a mandatory firmware update, you'll be asked to confirm the fingerprint." Does that help?

What happens if Trezor the company goes out of business and you can't buy a new Trezor One to recover your wallet if you lose the original one?

he specifically said never store your seed phrase on any digital platform, including taking pictures or putting it in the notes tab of your phone. all of these are susceptible to hacks and leaks. all it takes is for the hacker to find your seed phrase, plug in a new trezor, type in your phrase and voila they have all of your crypto.

You started out by saying that Trezor is the most secure hardware wallet. What makes it any more secure than Ledger? Not asking due to any disagreement, if it's better then it's better, I'd just like to understand what makes it better.

Good call. I don't have a well cited breakdown for arriving at this conclusion. It's based on the advice of a few of my friends who wrote their PhD on distributed systems, and know a ton about security. It's also based on a few block posts I've read regarding security comparisons. I don't have evidence that Trezor is THAT MUCH BETTER than Ledger from a security standpoint. Look online, and read more if that is concerning to you. I'd love it if you could report back on this comment thread if you learn anything you can share!

I've read a fair bit and work as an independent contractor for a leading crypto exchange, but in a non technical role. I agree that the Trezor UI is flat out better, but I honestly don't have an informed opinion with regards to which is "safer". I've asked people at work and they come up with conflicting answers that are frankly beyond my capacity to understand. I use Ledger because that's what most of the people I work with use, but I don't feel like that's a great reason and would love to have a better understanding of it.

Just a brief update to my previous post: Right now it appears both have pros and cons. Ledger supports more alt coins (that isn't subjective, 25 compared to 13 for Trezor), and is more durable (steel instead of plastic, again, that isn't really subjective). All reviews I can find say that Trezor's firmware is "more advanced" but don't go into any details to explain how/why. Also Trezor allows you to do everything within it's own desktop app, whereas Ledger requires browser extensions to access all available options (which I see as a big downside). Bottom line is that the internet seems to agree that Trezor is technically more advanced, but no one seems to be able to offer a detailed explanation for it.

if you have to get a new device, you can enter the seed to recover the old wallet. instead of creating a new one like he did in the video

Yes. You can receive BTC to your Trezor address even if it is not connected to your computer. Try it for yourself - send money to your address now. AND THEN AFTER connect it and you will see the money was received (assuming you did everything correctly, and sent it to the correct address, etc, it should work).

I did have to do the firmware update but upon update completion, it did not display the firmware signature for me to confirm :-/

I understand that this is to keep your Bitcoin content safe from online hackers and whatnot... But, what I don't understand is... If you transfer your Bitcoin from Coinbase to this device, you will lose whatever you have in there to grow, right? So how are you supposed to keep reaping the rewards of owning some BTC (or fractions of) once it's in your hardware wallet? Thanks.

You will still earn growth while it's in Trezor. Think of it this way: 1 BTC is 1 BTC whether it's in Coinbase or on a Trezor. When the time comes that you want to convert it back to USD, then yes you'll want to send it back to Coinbase and exchange it to USD.

Did you buy it from Satoshi Labs? Is it all set up? You might want to email Satoshi Labs, or try putting an offensively small amount ($0.50 USD) on the Trezor just to make sure that indeed you completed all the steps. But if it really didn't verify the fingerprint I'd be worried that it could be a tampered device!

no they are not. they can be shown easily again. even if you delete them they still can be recovered
