Loved the reactions from the three of you, and of course I love Trevor Noah. I think you are right about it being the loudness of a language, plus the speed that determines how others view you. I grew up speaking Welsh, and I used to spit on people when saying the double L . I moved to England and learned to drop my jaw, keep a firm upper lip, and eliminate a singing speech. Took me 3 months of saying Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers and other tongue twisters, but I had no problem traveling to other countries and picking up the various accents, and feeling quite at home. Please do continue your interesting reactions, among them any other Trevor Noah, especially the one about slaves on boats and Obama.

Hey, on the Balkans this is how we express love towards each other! I have always wondered how the soft russian language transforms into that brutal accent in English. A friend, who has actually learned russian explained to me, that the norm in russian is to pronounce every letter in the word, and I guess when a native russian speaker does that in English and combine ot with the way we here pronounce the R sound... Well... it starts to sound interesting.

As someone who speaks Russian and Arabic, I find them to be more melodic than people give them credit. Yes, they sound "rough" compared to romance lanuages like French, Italian and Spanish, but listen to native Russian and Arabic speakers recite poetry and you'll hear it.

I feel why we as south africans are more afraid of accents than languages is because we have so many , so hearing a language we do not understand is not as scary as knowing what is being said. is the i did not hear so i cannot tell policy. lmao

Family friend who is closer to my heart than my own aunt, is Russian, and she's from Saint Petersburg. I visited with her family and seen them several times growing up. And it is interesting, how at least in there, women speak the language softly, it is very beautiful, and men talk it more harshly. But Russia is a big country and there is lots of dialects. As a neighboring Finn I have heard the language most my life of course, even studied it a tiny while. :)
