I don't think he was dissing Usher. Devante was trying to explain his approach to songwriting, his keep it simple philosophy, and how he doesn't change his style to copy whatever happens to be hot at the moment. Confessions was a HUGE hit, and does have a high word count for an R&B song, It's the total opposite of a Devante song. If you look at his expression right before he said Confessions, he almost couldn't think of a song to compare to It's really giving props to Usher, because we all know Devante is a musical genius and knows it, and he would have had a hell of a time trying to think of a different song by a different artist that was worthy of being compared to his music.

How they speak sounds horrible I couldn't hardly understand what they were saying, besides that I remember Trevor Nelsons show when (MTV Base) was black centred and about Black music.
