Surprise, surprise, Trevor Lawrence was picked number 1 overall, a move that absolutely zero people could have guessed the Jacksonville Jaguars would have made. Can you see I’m being sarcastic?
Trevor Lawrence has been one of the most highly touted prospects since Andrew Luck, and rightfully so. His freshman year, Lawrence threw for 3,280 passing yards and 30 touchdowns on the season and was awarded the National Freshman of the Year and Archie Griffin Award by the Touchdown Club of Columbus. He was also awarded ACC Rookie of the Year honors. That same year he led Clemson to the national championship, where they defeated Alabama 44-16. He came back his sophomore year and again, led his team to the national championship where they lost to the juggernaut LSU. He came back again his Junior year for one last ride with Clemson and lost in the College Football Playoffs to Ohio State, and would finish second in Heisman voting, behind Devonta Smith.
For his age, Lawrence is an extremely polished quarterback. He has great size, and is an elite pocket passer, and has the qualities to be a great runner. With his dual-threat athleticism, he is an unpredictable threat on every down. While his approach in the pocket is very polished, Lawrence is best while improvising, and his improvisational talent is better than most quarterbacks. He has the arm and eyes to make big-time throws, and the legs to run for a large gain. There are some areas of concern, though. Lawrence’s poise, decision-making, and accuracy all took a hit in 2020 when he was forced to work under pressure. His performance against Virginia Tech shows how there is still room for improvement against the blitz. Aside from this Lawrence will be a great quarterback in the NFL, and has the ability to help the Jacksonville Jaguars win 4-5 games this season, which is a big step up from their 1 win 2020-2021 season. Jacksonville has always been missing their franchise quarterback, but with Lawrence, they have their white whale.
