    Hey Jason, I know this video is over a year old, but it is extremely valuable to me. I’m coming from years of using a climber going to sticks and a hang on. You covered a lot of great points to be careful of. Thanks for keeping me and other hunters safe.👊

    Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. Getting home safe is the most important thing. We all make mistakes, or move too fast, or mind somewhere else at times. I fell this October too slipping a step because I stepped on a pine branch I though was the step. Had my lineman belt on but it kicked my ass! Always important to keep this stuff in our heads and be safe.

    No stick, one stick, aiders, rope mods, daisy chains, ATC, SRT, etc... And now with saddle hunting all the rage. I hope I'm wrong, but won't be surprised if a bunch of people start getting splintered. I've concluded that I like the original Lone Wolf buckles (silenced) best. Anything more than a one step aider is a PIA. A one step aider is a lot safer, but not worth the extra work for saving the weight of one stick. I bring an aider along just in case, but. This video should help people. Good info in this video, Jason.

I am about to begin hunting using climbing sticks for the first time this year (only ever used SI tree steps for last 28 years) and didn't realize how important keeping the attachment strap as close to level as can be done. I have the OEM straps for my sticks 32" LW ORG sticks and 24" Beast sticks) but I have purchased two AM Amsteel rope mods to try Will make 100% certain I use them both correctly especially the rope mods or will stay with the OEM straps You sir have performed a very important service about safety You are to be commended

It doesn't take long, but you definitely want to practice. And please, ALWAYS pay attention to what you are doing!! Concentrate! I personally have never used a bottom strap. Never saw the need. But it is a great feature to keep the stand from swinging out. But the bottom strap has to be used correctly. First attach top strap and then make sure the stand is srt and tight on the tree. I like the stomp method. Then after the stand is step lock in the the bottom strap. Or atleast leave the bottom strap loose as you set the stand then tighten it. I may only use one strap and have never ever had an issue. But I do make sure I'm connected to the tree with my lineman belt or safety line every second I'm above the fist step of the first stick.

John told him right to his face "I'm not dealing with dragging you broke body out of the woods and explaining it to your family, put it on or go home ". Great safety tips man! But when you are 75 yards from bedding, you are NOT pounding down on that stand with your foot to set it. The proper way to set it quitely is kneeling on the seat, lifting the platform with your foot and that sucker sinks in tight and isn't going anywhere. Sure you could push down on the platform with your foot. but don't stomp on it or you will blow out the whole bedding area. If you know what you are doing, you can set that stand good enough to step in it from the sticks. Just make sure you step as close to the tree as possible, then do what I mentioned before. You can achieve all that you showed here without stomping and unnecessary noise. Something you may want to point out.

  • @SamkoTradBow

    @SamkoTradBow

    3 жыл бұрын

    That stomp is not that loud and I do hunt right on top of bedding areas every time I hunt. It's the only way I hunt. I think people (people in general) get way to concerned about noise. As long as it's not metal on metal you can get away with way more noise than people think. Met a guy in Kansas Last year in a public hunting spot parking lot that told me I need to stop wearing my watch as the deer will hear it ticking on a quiet night..lol. but point being that stomp is non threatening, non metal on metal, and never caused me an issue.

  • @andrewofthenorth5500

    @andrewofthenorth5500

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@SamkoTradBow I Agree that you can get away with a lot more than most think noise wise. Though you will acheive the same thing by simply pushing down with your foot and some weight ( not all of it) at the back of the stand platform in a quick downward thrust once your foot is touching the platform, while holding on the tree, your other foot on the stick step, and teethered in of course. Why make the extra noise (whether it make s adifference or not, it's still loud enough) The actual act of literally stomping before your foot touches the platform just isn't necessary is all I am saying. Don't take me for a hater, or the one who disliked the video. We have to be safe doing these things and you have great tips!

    The sticks I just bought came with strap webbing that doesn't cinch, they just have lots of holes to wrap around the climbing sticks mounting peg. Couldn't get them very tight on my tree this weekend and I was definitely kicking sticks out a bit on my way up and down. I'll get cinch straps quickly.

    I have never heard of sticks coming with a daisy chain rope from manufacturer. Who makes the sticks? Yep I would not like that set up and would change to straps personally. Huntingbeastgear.com had straps on sale for 2.50 a peice a few weeks ago. Might still have them on sale.

    Something I think people also don’t understand is depending on the hike in and your conditioning, you could get 20’ up in the tree and leg muscles or arm muscles stove up on you and then you’re really up shits creek.

    I do not. I think they are about equal. But a climber limits you on tree selection. I'm not a fan of climbers. I think a saddle is the safest system you can run

    not a fan at all. Used to do it back in the day becuase we didnt know any better. but the toe hook method is not safe, puts un needed stress on the stand, etc. I have been putting a small chamfer to knock the hard points off my platforms and brackets for years now and that lets me just give it a quick stomp to set it. check my video on 3 ways to lock set a tree stand.

    I see you are wearing the Wrangler cargo pants. Reminds me of a prior video of yours regarding clothing. I have the Wranglers, but I found something I like a whole lot better - Sonoma cargo pants sold at Kohls. The normal retail price is around $59, but I bought them on sale and after using Kohls cash got them for the same price as the Wranglers. I never liked those 2 tiny pockets on the left leg of the Wranglers. These Sonomas are super comfortable, light weight, tough, and have full size pockets on both legs. Give em a try. I think you'll love em and maybe we'll see a follow up video. lol.

    I carry mine teeth up. Have to other wise the seat sticks up way to high and snags on everything. If tripping with the stand teeth up worries someone they could but a hip belt on the platform too and that will keep it from sliding forward Ina fall. I actually carry mine on my pack locked in place and my pack hip belt keeps it from hitting me in a fall.
