Treatment Options for Schizophrenia

We often have people express their uncertainty when it comes to their options for treating and managing schizophrenia. Of course, the first step is always to speak with your doctor about developing a treatment plan, but in this video we outline some of the potential treatment options you could discuss with your doctor. We also list some of the more psychosocial interventions which you can work on addressing with your doctor, as well as on your own.

I have schizoaffective disorder. Because my form of psychosis is not the typical hallucinations, it took years and years for doctors to realize that's what I was having. No early intervention, no hospitalisation, no appropriate medication, even trials with mindfulness sessions that made my psychosis much worse. It was hell. I am glad one psychiatrist had an open mind and tried a certain medication with me, whereas other doctors were reluctant to even treat my severe depression because "you are so young, we do not want you to need so many pills, we do not want to stigmatize you". Yeah, I did not really want to need that either, but it also felt belittling, like my feelings and emotion were not valid enough to require medication. My close friends and family are accepting and supportive, but they do not really understand being in my situation and I am glad for that, because I am glad that they never experienced anything like this. But it does feel kind of lonely, like I am the only "crazy" person on earth. So I really appreciative your videos!

@@TTInfiniteGaming I absolutely do not mind. Many people experience hallucinations like voices or visual hallucinations. When I am in psychosis, I am sure that something bad und extremely dangerous is about to happen to me or my family. It is a danger I must always guard against. Everything in my surroundings seems weirdly different, and if I do Not keep my thoughts to myself, People Can use them against me because they have the Power over these thoughts then. Those are pretty much the Main positive aspects. My medication works fairly well to keep them in Check, the negative symptoms are much more difficult to live with right now. Im schizophrenic. to lose it and be free from it well this is the alternative approach. drink at least 500mg of niacine,DIM(to reduce estrogen in the body) and tryptophan aka 5htp everyday trust me you will feel a tremendous change but it should go with fasting. Niacin, DIM and tryptophan are not meds but supplements so it doesnt have any side effects. You will experience red flush tho when drinking niacin like a sunburn or an allergy for like an hour but it's not dangerous and will disappear eventually. Schizophrenia is often linked to having too much estrogen in the hody so you need to lower it by drinking DIM. avoid meats, junkfood, and sugar and lose that weight, and don't go on yoyo dieting wherein you get thin, you get fat, you get thin again then you get fat again. it will worsen it. bottomline is don't be fat. durvey says that obsese people has a 56% higher chance of having Schizophrenia compared to vegan and healthy people. being fat or going on yoyo dieting will just benefit them cause you are giving out bad life force/energy/aura. stick into being thin. just eat Vegetables and fruits. your body is a temple. You are what you eat. You gotta keep your mind powerful and your body free from temporary gratifications and pleasure. it may not sound related but trust me it is. you will feel the difference. avoid vices like smoking, drugs and alcohol it will worsen it as well. you need a good aura and positive thinking to remove schizophrenia. clean your home. seeing that it's a mess plus thinking your life is a mess will worsen schizophrenia. just eat veggies and lose weight you'll feel the difference. you are what you eat. avoid meat and sugar like sodas, and junk food. your body is a temple and eventually in this holistic technique the voices will be limited or completely gone. do meditation and grounding/earthing everyday. this takes discipline and effort, it will not be gone overnight, you need to this for months or years to see results. download GAIA app then type schizophrenia, watch the videos there it helped me a lot. it has a 7 day trial period. what i did was i watched a bunch of videos in there then cancelled my subscription before it reached the 7th day. lol A temporary remedy is hum a repetitive short irritating lyrics in your mind, a chorus of a popular song. it will block 70% of the voice that you hear. it will be hard the first two days but you'll get used to it on the 3rd onwards and will become a habit to block the voice, this voices this motherfuckers will hate it. again niacin and tryptophan are very important, fasting or drinking only water and eating only vegetables is important and losing weight and maintaining it is important. this is an alternative approach than taking those mood relaxers and medications that will do nothing but to sedate the patients. thank you.

I’m more interested in the soteria project and the open dialogue approach they have trialed in West Cork in Ireland under Dr Pat Bracken and elsewhere in the world. These approaches work with the individual with minimal use of medication alongside the support of friends and family. I think it’s sad we are consigned to these meds very often for a lifetime. It shouldn’t be this way. Have a Merry Christmas Lauren and Rob, from Cork in Ireland. 🎄

I have lived with schizoaffective disorder for 28 years and the best healer has been my faith. Medication, plenty of sleep, good nutrition, getting out in nature and limiting amount of stress has all helped but only since I became a Christian have I had true relief from my mental illness. Maybe you could do a video around faith and mental illness please as I think it would be useful for a lot of people.

My brother has been battling Schizophrenia for many years, and your videos really help understand what he is going through and how to help him. Unfortunately, he has been unstable for a very long time. Hey battles many symptoms, but one of his most common symptoms is hearing voices. I wanted to know if is it common for people with this illness to actually verbally respond to the the voices. It's disgusting for you nt people to have us autistic people drugged up with neurotoxines just because we think differently and give a shit about your social norms! Let him do his own thing so he may become so. like Einstein, Gates, Musk and so on. We will never be like you! I hope you understand some day. I have seen an Asperger lady misdiagnosed and medicated into oblivion, she'll never be able to walk again. Do you want that for your son? Good, go ahead. You sure know what you're doing. He isn't disabled because of his autism. His environment disables him and no drug will fix that problem.

You gotta keep your mind powerful and your body free from temporary gratifications and pleasure. it may not sound related but trust me it is. you will feel the difference. avoid vices like smoking, drugs and alcohol it will worsen it as well. you need a good aura and positive thinking to remove schizophrenia. clean your home. seeing that it's a mess plus thinking your life is a mess will worsen schizophrenia. just eat veggies and lose weight you'll feel the difference. you are what you eat. avoid meat and sugar like sodas, and junk food. your body is a temple and eventually in this holistic technique the voices will be limited or completely gone. do meditation and grounding/earthing everyday. this takes discipline and effort, it will not be gone overnight, you need to this for months or years to see results. download GAIA app then type schizophrenia, watch the videos there it helped me a lot. it has a 7 day trial period. what i did was i watched a bunch of videos in there then cancelled my subscription before it reached the 7th day. lol A temporary remedy is hum a repetitive short irritating lyrics in your mind, a chorus of a popular song. it will block 70% of the voice that you hear. it will be hard the first two days but you'll get used to it on the 3rd onwards and will become a habit to block the voice, this voices this motherfuckers will hate it. again niacin and tryptophan are very important, fasting or drinking only water and eating only vegetables is important and losing weight and maintaining it is important. this is an alternative approach than taking those mood relaxers and medications that will do nothing but to sedate the patients. thank you.

@S W I prefer to take "religion" away from the category of "things that can be prescribed" and into the category of "things that should be a personal choice". Regarding meds, I'll tell you this: we are all made of the same stuff as the universe is made of that came from the big bang, and the molecules in your right hand have come from the opposite side of the universe than molecules from your left hand. Matter and anti-matter fluctuate, turning into light then back into matter and all plant/life/inanimate systems in the universe (including in just our GALAXY, which has 300 BILLION stars-- with 2 TRILLION galaxies in total... you want to do the math of how small we are?) are actually part of the same system, which also means chemical. Food is also temporary, so is water. Plants that use the photons of a certain wavelength also use that light temporarily. I'm sorry, but in the realm of reason and practicality, your demon theory falls into a highly personal belief; not a practical one. There are many things to fix in medicine and pharma (no question) but progress takes time and there are people researching constantly. Talk about real angels eh :P Good luck with your search.

@S W Your liver, your kidneys, all of them serve to function that way. Sugar puts tons of pressure on the pancreas. Some medication put nothing on your liver and everything on your kidneys (if you've ever taken over the counter painkillers, some of them affect kidneys and that's what you're actually doing as well). If you ever drank wine, if you ever had fatty foods.. need we go on? Regarding the spectrum of meds, I do not disagree that nearly all medications have down sides, but that's with literally almost everything and it depends on the medication/tool. Medications for anxiety for example are often used to reduce the physiological panic loops induced by what should be non-threatening stimuli so that where you would normally have a panic attack, it might close or inhibit some of the synapses and feedback loops in the central nervous system so that you can practice embracing your fears without crippling symptoms - and over time, the feedback loop changes as your brain recalibrates, so that eventually when you cease, you would have learned new mechanisms. With certain medications or with lesser understood conditions, medications are just one of many tools used to maintain balance. You always weigh the risks on your body against the benefits, and that varies from person to person; the only one who can give sound advice is a medical professional who works with said person. Each person’s condition will vary.. which brings us to the next point: Why assume why people hear things? First, not all people diagnosed with schizophrenia have such a symptom. Second, human beings do not “hear” with the ears; we do hear sound but we really understand it and interpret sound with our brains. Our ears are simply receptacles; it is your brain that interprets what we see/hear and also *if* we see/hear. Our bodies are intricately connected to a central nervous system, exchanges of calcium and potassium that travel through myelin. So, if you have ever had a dream in your life, it is exactly that- it’s not real but it feels real. Now imagine that while awake: that’s still just your brain, not a demon. If you imagine the brain as a computer with a billion wires, where 2 wires are crossed (for example sound wire and vision wire), that's all it is. If we take into account that all minds in the world are different and that each person experiences some things differently from the next by default (not including positive symptoms) that has nothing to do with demons and neither does this :) It's a physiological condition. Just because we don't understand something, doesn't mean we automatically must attribute it to something supernatural. By the same token, UFO doesn't mean "extra-terrestrial". UFO means unidentified flying object; i.e. it could be a bird, it could be a plane, or it could be superman. That assumption is just as dangerous as assuming that I have a condition, or that I hear voices. Even if I was diagnosed with schizophrenia (which I haven't been/am not), not all people who have been diagnosed actually hear voices or experience positive symptoms. Take care of yourself and be well my friend. I appreciate the concern, but we gotta take care of ourselves before others : )

It doesn't. They create addiction in the brain, work for a few weeks/months, the brain adapts to it. When you want to go off of them, the symptoms are worse. This isn't medication, those are drugs, that's why they rather create the illness and why people with sza/sz have to switch drugs after a certain amount of time. There's just false hope in the drugs and a whole industry behind it. Find out, why he is afraid in certain situations, sometimes it's rooted in the childhood.

@@nihil8436 the evidence is certainly compelling and cannot be dismissed lightly, though I would still be cautious about saying it has been categorically demonstrated. You can interpret the evidence in different ways. With some of the studies there was no proper control over who stopped antipsychotics, it was down to the patient and their doctor, so you could just say that those that didn’t need antipsychotics did not take them (hardly a shocking revelation). Also, even in studies with a control group, the comparison was between maintenance and mainly *low* dosage, not complete discontinuation. So, while I agree that the evidence means we should certainly be wary of antipsychotics, I wouldn’t go as far to say it’s been proven that the harms always outweigh the benefits. Just as they are a nightmare for many, they are also lifesavers for some.

You gotta keep your mind powerful and your body free from temporary gratifications and pleasure. it may not sound related but trust me it is. you will feel the difference. avoid vices like smoking, drugs and alcohol it will worsen it as well. you need a good aura and positive thinking to remove schizophrenia. clean your home. seeing that it's a mess plus thinking your life is a mess will worsen schizophrenia. just eat veggies and lose weight you'll feel the difference. you are what you eat. avoid meat and sugar like sodas, and junk food. your body is a temple and eventually in this holistic technique the voices will be limited or completely gone. do meditation and grounding/earthing everyday. this takes discipline and effort, it will not be gone overnight, you need to this for months or years to see results. download GAIA app then type schizophrenia, watch the videos there it helped me a lot. it has a 7 day trial period. what i did was i watched a bunch of videos in there then cancelled my subscription before it reached the 7th day. lol A temporary remedy is hum a repetitive short irritating lyrics in your mind, a chorus of a popular song. it will block 70% of the voice that you hear. it will be hard the first two days but you'll get used to it on the 3rd onwards and will become a habit to block the voice, this voices this motherfuckers will hate it. again niacin and tryptophan are very important, fasting or drinking only water and eating only vegetables is important and losing weight and maintaining it is important. this is an alternative approach than taking those mood relaxers and medications that will do nothing but to sedate the patients. thank you..

In Sweden the law says that you can force medicate only if the patient is a danger to himself or others. Communicate with your doctor, if you have untreated Sz for long time or you take alkohol or drugs or smoke and don’t take care of nutrition or stop socialising, you can have more brain damage and become a homeless, lonely and sick person. Try meds and if you have side effects tell your doctor, you can change med or the dose. If your doctor doesn’t listen to you ask politely but persistently to have another doctor. God luck. 🇸🇪

You gotta keep your mind powerful and your body free from temporary gratifications and pleasure. it may not sound related but trust me it is. you will feel the difference. avoid vices like smoking, drugs and alcohol it will worsen it as well. you need a good aura and positive thinking to remove schizophrenia. clean your home. seeing that it's a mess plus thinking your life is a mess will worsen schizophrenia. just eat veggies and lose weight you'll feel the difference. you are what you eat. avoid meat and sugar like sodas, and junk food. your body is a temple and eventually in this holistic technique the voices will be limited or completely gone. do meditation and grounding/earthing everyday. this takes discipline and effort, it will not be gone overnight, you need to this for months or years to see results. download GAIA app then type schizophrenia, watch the videos there it helped me a lot. it has a 7 day trial period. what i did was i watched a bunch of videos in there then cancelled my subscription before it reached the 7th day. lol A temporary remedy is hum a repetitive short irritating lyrics in your mind, a chorus of a popular song. it will block 70% of the voice that you hear. it will be hard the first two days but you'll get used to it on the 3rd onwards and will become a habit to block the voice, this voices this motherfuckers will hate it. again niacin and tryptophan are very important, fasting or drinking only water and eating only vegetables is important and losing weight and maintaining it is important. this is an alternative approach than taking those mood relaxers and medications that will do nothing but to sedate the patients. thank you..

yup sleep exercise and eating healthy. but I'm male. so I would prefer to be alone ( especially from family ) if I have sleep and pain issues. besides the same level of shallow conversation can be obtained going for a walk and bumping into a neighbor gas station attendant doctor ect.. over time the same expressions as well. lol. so I experiment study and learn. oh I've tried medication, but they intensify pain. so for me plenty of time to myself minimalism and practicing applied rationality. I miss relationships with women some times but I won't sacrifice the level of functionality I have now for cultural expectation. I love how you talk. thanks oh I have a banana warning system. if a back log of 3 bunches collect on the counter somethings wrong. ok no more youtube for a while. it's so true though. there are 3 sets of bananas. Lmao! I can't remember if that was from a movie or not. lol yah time to clean. maybe tomarow.
