At 75 I had the large prostate killing me for at least 25 years. Don't have that problem anymore. I threw the medicine in the trash. I traded all those problems for a big bowl of oatmeal every day. I add a little pumpkin seed and flex seed on it and a little oat milk. It took about two weeks. I can pee like a race horse now and I will never stop doing that.

I have had the same doctor for over a decade and he has been a great doctor. The only thing I have against him is that once a year he checks my prostrate and I wish he didn't have such large hands. Every time he puts his finger up there to search for what he is looking for I have to put my hands over my eyes so they don't pop out of my head and roll across the floor. I told him it would make a great KZread video to have a mirror on the other side of the exam table and post the look on the people's faces while he performs the procedure.

He didn't mention this but an enlarged prostate can be inherited as well. I started having symptoms around age 40 (I'm now 59) I've been thin my whole life (6'2" and 170lbs) and I'm physically active. The first time I visited my urologist around age 45 he said that I was a spring chicken compared to most of his patients and said my dad must have prostate problems, which he did. Lucky me.

Pumpkin seed did nothing for me, after years of taken it, but I know of people that it worked for, so research and try different things and see what works for you. I read that there may be a connection with dairy, so I stopped all dairy last month. Well within one week, I went from urinating 25+ times a day, down to 10. Two weeks later, my lowest was 4 times for the day. Getting up in the night to go, is now a thing of the past, not even a little urge to go. I can lay in the bed in the morning for as long as I want, and not feel the urge to go. Being physically active, has always gave me great relief, so I'll be combining that with my new diet, which also includes, very little meat. I'll see how that works in a year or so.

Please get a second opinion (nobody does) and insist on more than one biopsy reading. Remember, for them it is a job, for you, it is your life.

In my experience, BPH occurs most often in men with an inverted T/E ratio. This ratio is often decreased in overweight men, and in many, is an otherwise "inborn" tendency that comes with age. For some reason, estrogen and its congeners are often the culprit. Muscle greater than gland hyperplasia proceeds in such a way that the entire organ increases in size, resulting in obstruction of urinary flow. He talks about "estrogenic" effect. Fat tissue is capable of creating estrogen, apparently much more so than its ability to produce androgens. Stay skinny, hopefully go into a typical "man-o-pause" (anywhere between 55 and 80) and you'll avoid BPH.

Exactly, Chris, Brian, and "none." I laughed when I heard this "doctor"/butcher scoff at "placebos." Very few of these quacks are happy unless they are shoving poisonous drugs down your throat, or cutting you open. I'm so tired of them.

I have long suspected a link between obesity and poor urination, but not *one* of the doctors I have seen bothered to tell me about this: not when I went for treatment for this, not when I went for more general problems. Too many doctors are afraid to tell the patient, "you have to lose weight" -- few still have any idea *how* to advise to lose weight. It really doesn't do much good to just say, "lose weight" -- most patients have tried w/o much success.

I would like to know if physical activity like morning jogging, brisk walking, sit-ups etc., can aggravate a man's grade 1 level prostate? Thank you.

Dr McVary. Why did you omit the serious side effect of Flomax, which is retrograde ejaculation? You mentioned Avodart but "forgot" to say that it can and does cause the meatus to contract to the point that the penis is totally withdrawn, like a turtle that is frightened and his head is withdrawn into his shell. That condition is uncomfortable. The one med that is of some use for BPH is Cialis for daily use and you omitted that. I class my self fit and certainly not over weight yet I have a enlarged prostate and unable to oee.

Gaminex (G63) - It worked for me. Take 1500mg daily without food. I was waking at night every two hours to urinate. Now I can sleep through the night(7-8 hours) and only occasionally do I wake after 6 hours. I also take Zinc 50mg or less, and melatonin 3mg before bed.

I have no idea why some doctors say to not take vitamins. Why do we eat food if not to obtain vitamins our body requires. The problem is perhaps synthetic vitamins. If people took natural supplements made from food, that cannot possibly hurt and can only help the body.

One day before I turned 74 years old and in great physical condition because I exercise every afternoon I got sick from a Urinary Track Infection (UTI) I couldn't urinate for about a month and a half before I had the HOLEP Laser procedure. I was able to start urinating without the catheter exactly a week after the surgery. I'm retired from the US Army but unfortunately here in the USA doctors see patients just like numbers. My urologyst who supposedly was going to see the monday after wednesday's surgery, was a no-show. And the nurses told me he said he didn't need to see me. I felt I needed to see him because I had a lot of questions to ask him such as: How did the surgery go; What could I expect for the next few days; Recommendations on what not to do; Whether or not my prostate was enlarged.

Your urologist seems to be like my dad's urologist, limiting himself to phone call appointments once every two months, won't even see my dad in his office. I've decided to educate myself and my dad about his condition and invest in herbal supplements and an even healthier diet. Let's see what happens. Some doctors just don't care about their patients. I Just learned about this, I sort of suspected it a year ago when I first found this thread, so I started supplementing 15mg, after a year, I got tested, I'm all the way up to Just under the line and I read further, if U get your Blood levels of Zinc up, that does not necessarily get your prostate levels up, so I switched to 50mg and also take Quercetin to help absorbancy , I Plan to run my zinc levels up to the maximum and hold it there in hopes of getting some in the Prostate. I read with a higher level of Zinc, I should watch my Copper too. Only other thing I could add, it made good sense don't take a Sample to check for cancer, making a bore hole through your prostate gives a place for cancer to start. I hope this helps somebody.

My father is 90 and had TURP 20 years ago. He’s still very active. No diabetes or other conditions. Extremely healthy eater and non smoker. Thin and exercises daily but he always goes to the restroom about 4-5 times a night. So I’m not sure how much of a role exercise and weight loss can overcome simple genetics of having a very large fast growing prostate.

I think the underlying problem with trying to fix ED or urinary retention or prostate enlargement is that we're thinking in terms of individual component failures - thinking that if we can just fix that one component, our system will return to normal function. This approach is obsolete now that we can get entire systems replaced. Clinics in China and Burma and (I think) India offer complete system replacement therapy - new tubes and lines, new sensors, new prostate, new penis, new everything. Previously, if one component gets fixed, it's just a matter of time before some other component fails . . . each incident requiring a new hospital stay and increased opportunity for complications. It's very common and well understood in the car repair business that if you replace an engine with new or rebuilt, the transmission will inevitably fail shortly thereafter since a worn transmission is adequate for a worn engine . . . but install a new engine onto an old, worn transmission and it will fail well within 10K miles. Like clockwork. Same principle applies to our bodies which, like cars, are simply a harmonious synthesis of various systems, each with life limited components. Modern medicine is lagging behind the car repair business. The answer is TSRT - Total System Replacement Therapy. Complete systems are available from young, healthy donors who have unfortunate accidents and no longer need their various systems/components. Yes, new complete systems are expensive but still cheaper in the long run than waiting for individual components to fail one by one then undergoing a series of expensive surgeries. Get it all done at once and breathe easy.

@mzulfekar I was far to gone for anything like that. My doctor was hoping "Uro-lift" could be a less-invasive option. My prostate was beyond this point also. It had to be TURP. As it turned out I had 4 TURP surgeries within a 6-week period. 6 emergency drives to E.R. Ihad a catheter installed more hours than not over a seven week period. I kept bleeding after my surgeries and they couldn't find the bleeders. What a nightmare.

What he does not mention is that the testosterone conversion inhibitor make cancers more aggressive if and when they happen.

Don Jones I had that Turp operation at 49 years old. My urologist afterwards said I would need a repeat in about 15 years. After 13 years my symptoms returned, but my smart mother urged me to eat an apple each day as she did. My symptoms disappeared & my PSA has not been above 2.6 (perfect !! my GP says) since. An apple every day or every other day will keep the prostate healthy & a good daily serve of vegetables also helps of course. I am 73 now & I very rarely pee during the night - my pee stream is great.

I think we all agree that drainage of fluids is the only way to shrink (reduce the volume of) the Prostate. Taking systemic medication might help. I prefer gentle, direct pressure. Thus my BPH is under control. Says my urologist. But touching your Prostate is socially taboo and not to be discussed. By lemmings. There is one thing the Flomax is definitely good for, and that is selling pharmaceuticals, and selling pharmaceuticals to individuals (that’s the job of the PCP). This video is certain to make a lot of money for both of those interest groups. I’m not sure how much it’s going to help men with enlarged prostates…

It is very disappointing that virtually all doctors and medical institutions discuss prostate growth as inevitable and never mention any research into slowing or stopping this growth. In effect, the benign nature of prostate enlargement limits urgent solutions while continuing a myriad of symptomatic treatments.

Both have a permanent side effect, even if taken only ONE time. It is called "floppy iris syndrome", permanent damage to the iris of the eye. When you need cataract surgery or other eye surgery, this will complicate the procedure. Urologists never bother to warn you, eye surgeons are quite familiar with it.

If you drink more, the urination cycle increases. It is not necessarily a sign of a prostate problem. Prostate problem is clearly indicated by having difficulty of passing urine, due to constricted ureter caused by the enlarged prostate.

What is the purpose of the prostate does it hold urine till its time to pee I get some pain when I pass urine and it is slow.

From my experience, prostate problems occur either from infection (which can be cured easily using antibiotics) or from problems of the nervous system affecting the pelvis. The latter are complex and there isn't a single miracle fix for them. Alpha-blockers, for instance, are very powerful but they can be very detrimental to the sexual function - and that's something truly undesirable. There are certain herbs which CAN help, especially in the initial phase of the symptoms: Saw palmetto (Serenoa) is the most well known. Another one is very cheap and effective: Epilobium. Traditional Chinese Medicine proposes Kai Kit Wan and Jin Kui Shen (the latter for strengthening the kidneys and "pushing" the urine more forcefully). But ultimately, one must accept some changes: Drink less coffee (at least initially), exercise more, lose weight and induce massage therapy in his lifestyle - get that damned tension out of his system.

I'm 45 and I have a prostate infection, I have been taking Cipro. (500) for 5 years now and have not been cured. The specialist that's been treating me for the infection said there is no cure for it and that eventually I would need to have the prostate removed once the Cipro stops working. I've been having joint pain mildly for about 5 months from the beginning of the year 2019 and now for about 6 months it's been excruciating to where I lose sleep. My general Dr said I have no arthritis so now I've been reading up on side affects to my medications. I will try what you are mentioning, I have read other articles that say similar things. I will re-post maybe in about 2 weeks with an update. Would you say that you were cured from a prostate infection? if yes what antibiotics cured you? The problem is that the connection between infection and symptoms (pain, enlarged prostate, difficulties in urination, sexual dysfunction) is not established scientifically. Go for instance to the Wikipedia page for "Chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic syndrome" and read the paragraph "Bacterial infection" and its references below. Also, search for "Mechanisms in prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain" by M.Pontari and M.Ruggieri. The Swedish encyclopedia "Praktisk Medicin" declares that "pelvic pain has nothing to do with the prostate" and that "antibiotics offer nothing more than placebo". If we can't prove that your symptoms occur due to an infection, we can't claim that you have "prostate infection". This is your case. Most urologists will not admit that they simply don't know what causes the problem. My own case was not so severe - I never felt pain down there. It started with a urinary tract infection, which was cured using Cipro, but the prostate symptoms continued and the PSA levels worsened. So, what can you do? I'd suggest that you buy from Amazon a small booklet called "21 Prostatitis and Cystitis hacks that really work" written by a fellow patient. Something inside may work for you. Start with "D-Mannose with cranberries"; it will clean your bladder from certain germs and make you feel a little better. Experiment with the rest. Visit the gym, add massage or some somatic therapy, always check your blood pressure. Only you can find the mix for yourself.

That may be a weak bladder, they sometimes lose elasticity. Only a urologist can tell you, and the meds and procedures are entirely different. Sometimes called a bladder retention or voiding problem.

I had a urolift and it worked ok but failed after 3 years. My prostate was probably too large to make best use of that procedure. Since I was unable to urinate and needed a catheter I went with HOLEP. laser surgery. Only needed catheter for 48 hours after surgery and had minimal bleeding. Six months later I couldn’t be happier with the results.

I am sure this doctor is well educated and means well but I hear this kind of stuff a lot and all these things you should cut out of your diet are things that are very hard to avoid in your normal life. It becomes almost like a job just to eat like that and it’s also expensive. I take flow max and that’s that. Medicine isn’t all bad people. Enjoy life.

trying this....SAW PALMETTO...took 1 pill ( flomax - tamsulosin) developed retrograde ejaculation....semen goes into the bladder instead of emitting from penis tip... NO WAY AM I DOING THAT TO MYSELF. @@normkraack PSA is not reliable, its use in this way should be stopped. Even it's discoverer the pathologist Richard J. Ablin said the PSA test was never intended to be used in this way.

I have had BPH for 20 years. My psa has ranged from 4 to 11 but has been over 4 for 20 years. That has led to 3 biopsies that were all negative. I take doxazosin and don't think it does a damn thing. The other day I saw an article on beta sitosterol and what the hell I tried it. One week later my prostate had shrunk by 50%. I now pee much better and far less frequently than before. My stream is like it was before BPH started. Apparently BS works by inhibiting a catalyst in the prostate that promotes growth ( ie inflammation).

@@westsidecater I had nothing to lose and there are no serious side effects. It is plant based. I was not expecting anything great to happen but after one week I could not believe the difference. I have always checked my prostate manually and it had retreated almost 1.5" inches. Before it used to be so big you could feel it just past the anus. It worked for me.

@@williamdenton6317 Whoa! Sounds like some serious self-checking. Did you ever use massager tools? Do you exercise and/or drink a lot of water as well?

Apple Cider Vinegar TBSP or 2 pills along with 2 Black Strap Molasses pills first thing every morning and you won't need Tamsulosin. May take up to 30 days to start seeing any results. Removing sugar, artificial sweeteners, processed foods, processed meats will move mountains also.
