Farmers, ranchers have been using this technique for eons. Great use for used oil!

In the uk years ago it would be used for fence posts and fencing and all sorts of wooden things that needed preserving. It's called making use of what you have. Probably still used today but away from that way of life nowadays.

Great way to repurpose used motor oil. I don't think it is bad for the environment in that state. It is the burning of oil products that hurts the environment. Pretty chickens. 🍁💕🍂🦃🌾

I guess since it came out of the earth to begin with it shouldn't hurt going back in! People are silly. Those are very pretty girls!

Thank you SO much for this tutorial! We have recently bought a trailer and have been looking for a sealant. The cheapest one we found is $40. I only have a question, please. How long should I let it cure before I can load anything onto it? Thank you! I am also trying to buy a lock for my trailer; do you have any recommendations? Thanks

I'm replacing the boards on my trailer in Arizona after 20 years. They were pretty rotted out. But I'm hesitant to use motor oil on the new boards b/c of how I use the trailer. I hear terrible things about Rustoleum's RockSolid products (class action lawsuit ongoing), and not great stuff about Thompson Water Seal products. I'm considering an oil based marine product instead.

After the oil soaked in does it get slippery when it gets wet or does it feel like a normal deck?

I used to use used motor oil (heh heh), on my new boots to waterproof the leather and the stitching. I would like to see you try cheap but NEW oil. A new 1-gallon jug of oil is $15 at O'Rei--- Plus $5 diesel = $20. Will it penetrate deeper? Will it not come off on your jeans or still attract dirt? Oil on old boards, ok. With my new boards tho, I'm going to use Th0msun's Water Seal.
