There are thousands of these towns throughout the West, just waiting for the intrepid to bring them back to life.

I’m pretty sure you realize how many childhood dreams you’re living out for all of the viewers. Watching these videos has and incredibly calming effect as well.

I love how you NEVER say "This town..." or "This place" when referring to Cerro Gordo. You always say the name. Shows the love and respect you have for it.

That woman who sent her shopping list via ORE BUCKET was the first to "shop online" for groceries you could say. lol.

First as a hiker, credit to hiking it. Then as someone that's made a few amateur videos, credit to the great job of videoing it all and the hours editing the whole thing. Then the cherry on top, the narration of the history and your thoughts. A lot of effort went into this video, what a great job.

You are so special. I love going on these journeys with you. Precious!

You had tow sets of two large drums each, one at the top and one near the bottom. They are weights, probably filled with rocks. Their purpose is to tension the main stay cables. As temperature goes up and down the cables expand and shorten. These tension drums then go up and down, keeping a. Instant tension on the main stay cables.

Rather than just moving everything back to Cerro Gordo, I would love to see a trail built so that walking the route could be part of the experience of visiting the mines.

This makes me weep. My mom had dementia also. One of my last memories of her was her trying to eat the flower I had placed on her tray. I know she was likely going to smell it. When she looked up at me as I took it away she had such an innocent expression. I cherish the memory. So glad you can share these videos with your mom,they are great aren't they?

My buddies and I just passed through your little town, but didn’t stop to look around. We knew this was a privately owned property and wanted to respect your privacy. But, MAN, what an awesome place you have with built-in daily adventure. I admire your sense of adventure and your ability to narrate your videos in such an interesting and captivating way. Your efforts are the reason you have 1.something million subscribers and growing. Onward!

I started watching one of the vidios at about noon. It is now 5pm and I've been watching them all day. I'll be back for more tomorrow!

The History and Discovery Channels could take a lesson from your videos. No formula dramatic music, no mindless narration, no repetition, it's all real and live and pure history and you are a damned good host! Stay you and don't get too slick like some KZreadrs. For $6 million is possible to get chair lifts for visitors and supplies. This town will quickly come back to life and be maintained. But 6 mil is a big number.

I enjoy your videos so much. I spent years in the desert wilderness in NM and AZ. I became ill in my 50s and could not live such an adventurous life any more. It makes me happy to see young people interested in US history and have the ambition entrepreneurial spirit

I'm one of the 2 people Brent mentioned after starting the miner's cabin rebuild 2 weeks ago. So it can happen, just gotta reach out to him. It was worth it. Stickers would be a good starting point. They're not very expensive and he would be able to sell and mail them by himself if he wanted to, which I think he probably would to get started. He would be able to build on that and fund more stuff like shirts!

Watching you following the cables down the mountain, made me think about the men who laid those cables. How hard and dangerous it must have been. They must have been hardy. There are untold stories everywhere you look. I really appreciate their work and could feel their pain. Thank you for taking me on this journey with you. You may not appreciate what it means for someone who is now old and disabled and unable to do the things that you are doing now, to be on this journey with you. Seeing things that firstly I knew nothing about but experiencing alongside you. Rob, Cardiff, Wales, a disabled Vet.

Would be great if a tramway could be setup again and have people visit cerro gordo for the day. I also think taking rides up and down cerro gordo's mountains would be very exciting and beautiful.

I appreciate this channel because I can engage my mind in the activities he performs at Cerro Gordo. Every weekend after a week of work I look forward to this. I strive for the moment at which he can open the gates and allow people in. I am young, the gears of my adulthood life are just in first gear. I hope for the physicality of cerro gordo to be a part of my story.

@@jaime8317 Just being myself here. I try to edit my comments to the best of my ability whilst including wording that is truest to what I am actually feeling about given situation. Im typically not one to ramble on over KZread comments sections. This channel is one (that I am currently aware of) I can actually place myself in the moment and have true feeling for. As per the being myself aspect, that was a very personal decision that took a lot of willpower to act on. I just got tired of algorithms picking and choosing what it would show me, and how long it would keep my attention. I myself have a hard time controlling an impulse to click on some variety of entertainment. Some people do not have that issue, and I’m happy for them.

When you think about sending orders and getting supplies up the tramway, is this considered ordering "online"?

I think they were stationed on top of the structures because the structures themselves were not anchored into the hill but rather sat on top. Kind of like putting sandbags on "A" frame road construction signs. I think they were just used to hold the structure down and in place to keep it from moving around as the loads swayed and jostled along the route.

@@BrokeMoFo Every cable tram must have weights to keep the cable tight when you load the cars. Those timber towers were surely anchored to the rock with wedge anchors that rusted away. They surely also had lateral guys or stays, to help keep them from creaking and swaying.

Thought I was nuts, Brent your awesome. Viewing your videos puts me back on the side and top of a mountain. Watch out for the hikes from hell. Sunflower seeds for the salt, pickle juice for the muscle cramps or mustard. A good, new shovel handle without a metal tip for the hike and protection, good length of cord wrapped around the handle for grip. Stay safe and thanks for the adventure.

I know this video is years old at this point, I've just started watching the series as a way to wind down and actually relax in my time off from work without doom scrolling. It’s amazing that after centuries, this rigid terrain is no match for all our modern technology, short of helicopters coming in and lifting those buckets out. It is truly a marvel how those men created these systems in the rigid and harsh mountains. I love the narrative of men 100’s of years later having to walk the buckets out to the road. I wish I could be a part of this. Truly a masterpiece. Thank you Brent.

@@GhostTownLiving It's a little simpler than you'd think, because all they had to do was build the stations and then drag the cable up the mountain, likely with another, smaller cable. The really impressive part is that they somehow got all the running gear (wheels, bearings, etc) up the mountain somehow. That probably just amounted to a whole bunch of dudes, and a whole bunch of mules, pulling them up on wooden skids. Also, that tramway would make for a very, very serious zipline experience. I know it had to have crossed your mind, but people would come and pay just to experience that, which would be the same experience those miners had back in the day, plus a little modern accommodation and safety.

After having a very busy day at work working in a retail typesetting, this was a real breath of fresh air to sit down and watch this, I just felt transported to another place in time and that felt awesome and the views were spectacular, thank you so much for uploading this and hopefully many more to come.

men were very determined back in the day. physical labor made everything possible.they figured out a way. thank you for sharing th area is beautiful

I’m an archaeologist in New Mexico and these videos really help me appreciate the historic artifacts we find. It’s very easy to overlook the old cans and bottle glass in search of prehistoric artifacts.

It would be cool to see the tram or a part of the tram restored. Just imagine building that thing back then with limited equipment.

I think the best and cheapest way is to use the old cables, build 2 or 3 temp towers leapfrog the buckets down closer to the roads letting GRAVITY do the work.

I was kinda thinking the same thing. Maybe restoring some of the tram stop towers along that route you walked? Not necessarily for transporting goods or people? But maybe a "Tram Tour" on mule or horseback?

I think it would be next to get some people together and play out a day in the old west. Thanks for sharing it was awesome.

Make Cerro Gerdo Great again! It would be awome to see a zip line installed to replace cable line of old. Giving visitors a nice long experience of what it was like for miners who rode the buckets.

Zip line sounds great. Or a chair lift. It would add to the attraction of the town if visitors could ride it (safely!) and tour the town from the air.

Imagine how awesome it would be, if it was possible to set up that first stretch of the tramway and hang some of those ore buckets up there, stationary of course, but giving that look of the good ol' days of Cerro Gordo! Just picture it, you arrive at a ghost mining town and there's this tram line over your head with ore buckets and water tanks hanging from the cable! It'd be awesome. Just awesome.

My grandfather told me stories of riding the cable to the mines . He worked as a coal miner in southern Colorado. If you want to get some of those things off the side of the mountain do it the same way as the miners did with mules !

i was amused when you said you were scared of heights, because you are definitely not scared of depths!!

I’m sure you already have these artifacts recovered by now. But if you bring a crew of people to move these things to a few central drop areas then you can have a helicopter fly in to drop a dumpster or two. Then load em up and air lift them to town. Takes a bit of planning but doable.

Get you a pair of combat boots...you can buy them on any base or surplus store...never had a pair to bust on me throughout any terrain...

Agree, have seen something similar at other mining tram stations - sometimes large counterweights were hung from the rear of the station to keep it from tipping over, not only to apply cable tension.

I was just thinking the same too. They look like they were full of rocks, not water. The metal pulley/worm device was at the top, not the bottom. Similar systems are used on overhead power lines for trains, but on a much smaller scale.

Great boots, but not the comfiest. I have a pair of leather, hi top boots. Even with the more padded soles I bought, feet still hurt at the end of the day. But they are durable as hell!
