Ойын-сауық

Continuing in the build, I explain the treadle lathe pedal mechanism. Can you guess the number of revolutions per minute?

Looks amazing! Looking forward to seeing the next steps of your project. I got the coal stove ripping and made some chips and dust today and that felt great. I’m struggling with this old mahogany as its super dry and rock hard! Knickered some knives again :( Thanks for sharing! Congratulations on the channel growth!!

Hi again, with your present configuration you can run it at 960 RPM by treadling twice per second, which is not difficult. I would yet reduce the diameter of the headstock pulley to 2in, thus increasing RPM to 1440. Not bad at all for a muscle powered machine...

Nice job. I hear a clunk on each rev. What causes that? And does this give you enough power as you turn? I'm spoiled with my modern torque but want a treadle to use at craft fairs.

Jim, I wanted to congratulate you for this build which is something I am working on right now and your tips are helping me a lot. I wonder if your "linkage arm" was more straight up (thus steming from a point closer to the treadle axis) you would have more leverage on the step... I think mine will have a number of tentative positions to try and see which one works better....Thanks a lot...!!

Having some adjustment in the treadle mechanism is a good idea

Looks good; what is making the clump-noise with every pedal thrust?

I had to replace the crank with a solid bent piece as the block had play in it and eventually failed!

Looks great. I am like you not sure if it’s right or not but where the bottom of pedal hits floor, could you knock off that corner? It may give you little more down motion and maybe quieter ? Love so far

Would there be any benefit to replacing the flywheel with metal?

Hello, I have been trying to make a design based on this concept but I dont have much understanding of it. Is the wheel size determine how much torque goes into the pulley? As I am experimenting a concept using this to power my skateboard with peddling. And I cant really have a giant wheel cause it wont fit on the board xD What if I used a smaller wheel but using gears to multiply the wheel torque to output to pulley

If you're using a belt, (assuming) you need to make a trueing arm for your flywheel. Steady rest that clamps on so you can concave the center so belt doesnt come off. 1 question why did you start using screws on lower framing?

I will be using a leather treadle sewing machine belt and it will be grooved into the center of flywheel and headstock pulley. I will also likely need a tensioning wheel. I was afraid the glue joint would fail with all the foot pressure.

@@lastingbuild1373 cool, I ended up going with just the single board (mahogany) attached to the pushrod and I use a flat 2" belt. My tensioner is a wood lever arm with weights I can hang off like old scales didnt want to keep taking out springs when not in use (belt damage/ stretch). I have 50" between centers. I cant wait to see what you are doing with the spindle I went with a fixed design like you originally planned on. Keep it up

Just my opinion. I wouldn’t adjust the foot paddle until I saw how the top turning part worked if you understand what I am trying to say. You might not need to adjust it.

Hopefully, will be turning soon! The frame is all dismantled for final pegging and final shaping and the headstock is glue-up and drying🤞
