Turn the bottom boot strut brackets around pointing towards the front of the car the struts will work much better

I had the same issue as you did with the factory harness not working when I installed my TRD wing. To make mine work properly, I found the TRD wing harness wires in the hatch grommet, and spliced them with the wires leading to the 3rd brake light (Also found in the grommet). I think this is a better solution than wiring it to the plate lights since people driving behind you might get confused and think you are constantly braking.
