    Spot on Marine. You also have Military Airlift Command (MAC) flights. Especially overseas... sometimes a little difficult for timing. But it is FREE and you can't beat that. If you're single Sgt and below.. go on Embassy duty.. married SSGT and above.. more travel and great opportunities. Because when you get out..or retire. You will have less opportunity to travel.. to busy working for a living. Take your family with you.. accompanied tours ..every chance possible. Great education for the kids. DOD schools are fantastic. Lots of opportunities for the spouse. A lot of MWR activities and the culture. Your 100 percent correct Marine 👌

    This advice is spot on! I wish had this advice when I enlisted in the Navy back in 89'. I chose to stay somewhat close to home because of a girlfriend and what a dumb ass mistake that was!! When my Marine (my son) enlisted I told him this exact same thing!! Hopefully he follows through once he hits deployment

    Good advice once again. When I was in Okinawa “The Rock” I was stationed at Futenma. After getting back from THE SUCK “Vietnam” I was able to take military hops to the Philippines (Subic Bay, Mainila, & Baguio) Korea (Seoul & Osan) mainland Japan (Tokyo, & Yokohama, all on R&R. Also, my squadron had cold weather training at Mt. Fuji Japan. So young servicemen & women, or future service men & women take the Staff Sergeant’s advice, he knows what he is talking about. Sgt. Tommy Lynch back in the day.

    This excellent advice! I was with 3/3 stationed in Hawaii with 2 6 month deployments to Okinawa Camp Hansen. From there I went to Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Guam, South Korea are just the one I can remember because I got out in 96 and this was all on the governments dime. Take this Marines advice he knows what he’s talking about. Semper Fi my brother!

    Ask yourself do you see yourself spending the rest of your life with her? If it’s a truly honest no join, if it’s a yes you need to talk to her and see if that’s the kind of lifestyle so would be interested in. Essentially she would be joining right along with you. You have some things to figure out don’t rush in the Corps will always be there.

    It’s my understanding that you have no choice where the marines put you. Also even if you request to be deployed, the marines can even place you into a non deployable unit. What advice would you give a marine stationed somewhere they don’t want to be, and thoughts on nondeployable units?

  • @bradmacmahon2818

    @bradmacmahon2818

    2 жыл бұрын

    @Lorna, depending on the Marines MOS they could get stationed anywhere and unfortunately would have "to enjoy the suck" as they say. My Marine went infantry and wanted a foreign county to experience but they placed him on the opposite coast from where we live. While we wish he was closer, I am glad he is experiencing another place. When I was in the Navy, 90-94, between my placing in my MOS and a ship decommissioning, I had a choice. The Corps fills positions where needed.

For me it wasn’t that bad bc my superiors knew my age and they respected me and didn’t really get out of line bc I was older.
