    It's been entirely too long since I've been to the place I call my second home. Much of my family has passed on and my childhood memories are invaluable...from going mango picking, getting knocked off my cousins horse, going from one island to the next on the Goose to just walking from Watergut to the beach...so blessed to have that as part of my heritage and longing for my next venture back home...

    Really cool to see a real vid of St Croix. Living here for over a year we've grown to love this island more and more everyday! Great vid!

    Thanks for showing my island for others to see. Many years ago cruise ships docked at the pier in West every Wednesday for Harbor Night and the tourists flocked to the local bars, shopping, sightseeing and music as musicians and local vendors would line the streets to welcome them. When the economy changed and new people in power took over, all of this went away. Now, it's cheaper to fly to the neighboring island of St. Thomas than it is to fly to St. Croix. I'm glad that you pointed out that no matter what country or state you live in or go to, there is crime. Some places you go to may be nicer than others but one thing's for sure, on St. Croix, we are family. Thanks Kinga!

    @@guardiandogoargentinos1385 Yeah notice she mentioned 'no matter where you go there is crime' that is because the USVI rivals the top cities in the States for murder rate and the reason why the cruise ships stopped going to St. Croix is because people were getting robbed at gunpoint on the cruise ship dock: The US Virgin Islands, a US territory that should be compared to States, has a population of 110,000 and a murder rate that frequently rivals the worst city in the US, St. Louis, at over 52 per 100,000k murders in 2017, which was #1 in the Caribbean and #4 in the World. In 2010 it was #2 in the World at 60 per 100,000 murders just behind Honduras' 60.2 per 100,000 that year. I've known multiple people including close friends that were murdered there, including 2 hacked to death with a machete in broad daylight on a beach with a bunch of tourists there by a Voodoo practicing West Indian. You can find more details in this book: Would you like to read about real modern pirates based out of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands taking place in the end of the cocaine fueled 80s? @@guardiandogoargentinos1385 (Reuters) "1988 St. Thomas, Virgin Islands St. Clair Daniel was arrested tried and convicted for two human sacrifices. Daniel hacked to death Genevieve Lewis, 53, and Steve Cornish, 29, with a machete on a beach in broad daylight in front of several horrified beach goers. Family and friends told police Daniel had been a practitioner of his own brand of island Voodoo and Satanism. At his trial in 1989, Daniel tried to plead not guilty by reason of insanity but prosecution pointed out Daniel was aware of what he was doing because he followed an ancient voodoo superstition of dismembering a ritual victim so they could not return as a zombie. He was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.”

    It's brown everywhere but rainforest in the dry season. The whole subtropics gets brown in the dry. Sad to see the reefs so badly damaged. Cane Bay and Davis Bay were unreal walls of coral back in the day - not that long ago. I miss Pepper, Hilda, Matt, Vivian and all of them at the Buck-an-hour. I miss Mon Bijou and Zion, The trail above Fountain Valley in the afternoon rain, Annaly, the Monk's Baths, the shallows at Envy Bay, the creek at Butler Bay. I MISS CONK AND SALTFISH PATTE, KALALOO, GENIPS. LOVE YOU ST. CROIX.

    "Whenever something bad happens in the Virgin Island it's St. Croix". It's not St. Thomas's fault that locals on St. Croix kept robbing tourists to the point that they actually had to stop cruise ships from sailing there. But St. Thomas isn't any better to be honest. St. Croix has somewhat improved, while St. Thomas on the other hand has gotten worse. One of my coworkers was stationed there in the 70s/80s, and said crime has ALWAYS been a problem, so St. Thomas needs to shut it's mouth too! There ARE historical sites and beaches on St. Thomas, but that guy is probably right that it's mainly only shops. There's a Polish family there that owns an entire street. St. Croix is certainly more empty, while St. Thomas is overpopulated. And there are streets in St. Thomas you can't even walk down in broad daylight because you'll get robbed! That's nothing to be proud of! Honestly, the best Virgin Island is St. John. It's extremely safe and is in the perfect location for day tripping to the other islands, but it's also the most expensive. But yeah, a video on the REAL St. Croix, should have talked about the crime problem, but St. Thomas's is still worse. Some girl was killed in a gang shooting while on a tour. That shit shouldn't happened on an American island! With all sincerity, this is an embarrassment to the the U.S. France, Netherlands and the UK have no problems maintaining peace and order on their islands (aside from St. Martin), but the U.S. has allowed their colonies to become infested with crime. Seriously, this is sad and embarrassing! All that being said, one thing I will NEVER understand is why the hell do they drive on the British side of the road? I also think it's stupid that they cancelled the ferry just because it ran aground in St. Thomas. Just because it happened once, doesn't mean it will happened again.

    maybe your time was limited or you went at a different time of the year. I was there in the beginning of June I to had transportation and I could of showed you a part of STX yer video didn't even show I'm bad at names so I can't remember all the beaches the locals told me about witch 1 to swim in witch 1 to watch the sun set another to rise should you go back let me know I'll show you another side that I think you either missed or didn't want to visit also you don't say how long you stayed it takes time to learn a lot about a place the locals were so friendly sometimes it was hard for me to get around I had so many conversations with so many a lot of times it would take 30 minutes to go from store to car where ya from you must go here or there where to eat oh yeah if you dive did you know there's several places that will cook up yer lion fish for ya. I'm thinking about going back and spending several months there hmu I haven't lived there but I know a lot of really cool places that were never mentioned. Plz don't think I was hating on yer video I just felt you left so much out. If I go to stay for the summer it will be late may or early June I've found a couple condos or apartments to rent.Bless ya gurl Jah love

    Being a vegan is lovely Rachel. As are lionfish...in their proper habitat. However, in many parts of the world they are invasive and incredibly destructive. In the Caribbean they are a non-native species that have a devastating effect on local ecosystems. They have no natural predators in the area and are voracious eaters capable of causing extinctions of native plants and animals, plummeting biodiversity, competing with native species for finite resources and ultimately changing local habitats.

  • @vladtepes7013

    @vladtepes7013

    You wouldn't love them if you had any idea what they are. Ignorance is bliss, right? They decimate the local fish population. One lionfish will empty a reef in a few weeks of any and all fishes that fit in its mouth. That means zero new fishes survive, because they are ALL eaten. They have no natural predators in the Caribbean because they are an invasive species (thanks to the A-hole who released them from his aquarium on the US east coast) and they DESTROY the local fish population. Still think they are so awesome?

    Any city in USA is more dangerous than St. Croix. Follow advice of people who live there - first rule of being a foreigner. I lived there for a time and went everywhere, including the Projects, and had friends everywhere. Yeah, some ban Dreds are around, but there are some badmen anywhere. NO problems. You have to have the right attitude, to being with, some respect, and know your limits The only trouble i ever heard was when Navy ships would come in for shore leave and some newbies would decide to tangle with Dreds over drugs, or get drunk and get out of hand. Getting involved with drugs as a traveller is always a bad idea. We used to have the Moonlight cruise from Hamilton Mews every full moon, and Capt. John would take our drunk asses out to Buck Is., someone would always go overboard (besides those who went on purpose), we'd go to the Main Is. for a cookout and dance, and a few hippies would get naked, and it was all good, and no one made trouble.

    Crime? St Thomas was much worse. I had zero problems on Island for the year I was on St Croix.

    St Croix needs new industry and jobs..you can't depend on tourism. New technology is the only way.

    It's funny how anyone can travel the world with no problem but a St. Thomain can't go St. Croix to live, it's a problem. Crusian can come to St. Thomas no problem. Aint that Ironic.

    No offense to the people of St. Croix, but I honestly don't think that forest really qualifies as a rainforest, at least not by what I've seen of it in photos and videos (not only this video). It is certainly a forest, but a rainforest has more vegetation than that, more layers, bigger trees.

    Doesn't anyone speak French anymore? I'm not sure what's funnier, the yuppies in the video that mispronounce the name, or the "natives" that do it.

    Glad you enjoyed. Locals are what make a place special...and the locals in St Croix are some of my absolute favorites. I still keep in touch with quite a few of them.
