My favorite souvenir when traveling is an item of clothing or an accessory (usually "vintage"). Every use brings back memories of that trip.
I love how thoughtful you are about your capsule. Your point on missing “fun items” really resonates. I see so many youtubers presenting their capsule wardrobes, and I find so many of them very bland. It’s always the same neutral-colored classic items mixed in different ways, and they tend to look too generic. Your channel really stands out to me because you always add a bit of flair or twist in your style, and it is really what makes your wardrobe ideas so interesting and inspiring!

Of course! Thanks for watching!
If we are going to an unknown to us destination, it is hard to anticipate everything! I always loved buying myself a special treat when I was anywhere! Something I couldn’t get at home. Sometimes I have something in mind. I have cut back on my buying and have the list and have cleaned out the stuff I don’t wear, but I still love to shop and look and try on. Don’t feel bad about getting yourself a treat! Or having to pick up something that fills a purpose, such as something fun! Lots of nice shoes in Spain and Portugal. I also think that Salsa jeans are made there! I did dig in the jewellery stash and found my mom’s pink crystal Easter Bunny pin! A fun item. Hadn’t seen it in a long time! I chose my Easter duds to show it off! Haha! Have a lovely Easter. They must have some neat traditions in Portugal!
One time I went overseas for 6 weeks (staying in one place) and really tried to get the 'perfect' colour-coordinated (sensible) capsule wardrobe that covered all possible eventualities (weather, temp etc). The result was that after 1 week I felt so drab because I had no pop of fun colour/pattern! (It didn't help that the weather was grey and hazy the whole time) Everything was navy, denim, grey and white, and I found that afterwards i didn't want to wear the jacket for years due to the 'blah' feelings it inspired ☺️ ever since then I try to have at least one fun/pop of different colour/pattern/texture item to break things up. It's hard to find that balance between covering all the practical bases and still creating a variety of fun outfits 😊 Lesson learned: be sensible, but not TOO sensible 😆

For sure I’ve done that too- luckily I had some of my ‘statement’ jewellery with me. Chunky semi precious stones- mainly rings and chokers. They saved my bacon with my v neutral capsule!
I really liked this analysis of your travel capsule. I think the most valuable one to me would have to be the proportion play. As a petite, nailing the right proportions in an outfit is so important!
Hi Alyssa, No matter what the season I always pack my icebreaker Merino crewneck longsleeve. Similarly for more dressy occasions, I pack a light cashmere sweater or cardigan, even in the summer for air conditioned meeting rooms and restaurants . By the way you didn’t make a mistake, it was just a gap in packing! 🌸🇨🇦❤️
Yes! I recently went to a wedding in the upstate and forgot how much chillier it is up there. Dang it.
Oh that new (2nd hand) cardigan is so perfect! What a great find for your wardrobe!

Maker?!? Where can we find similar ?!? Love it !
This was very interesting. Here in Pennsylvania in the spring, I wear sweaters as well. Typically cotton or cotton blend, so they are lighter weight yet still breathable. I've collected some pastel colors sweaters that are more spring-like, since I really just want to be wearing sundresses and have it be warm out instead. I can see why you would be missing pops of color, even though your neutral capsule is beautiful.
Your cardigan is a great find. Looks beautiful on you! Travel wardrobes stresses me out!
Love travel capsule videos! Your poppy red shirt would have been great in the Portugal sun. Happily, you brought the hardest working poppy scarf in fashion, which continues to be a star in your wardrobe.
Goodness, you look so good in red.
One can't go wrong with bringing along a long-sleeved t-shirt.
Thank you for sharing your "mistakes" and your solutions to overcome them. Preparing for a cross-country move and at least one house hunting trip soon, so these insights will be useful for me!
love your transparency, how you admit your "oops" and can laugh at yourself, and not stress it but make it work. you are such a cool girl!!
Another great video! I can see where that poppy shirt would’ve brightened your day and the tip about proportion was great. You talk about it a lot, I don’t think about it enough
I love hearing about your mistakes because I feel like the lessons land better. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Omg, Alyssa. When you made that video of what you're bringing I was literally screaming (well, saying) out loud: "SWEATERS. BRING MORE cozy SWEATERS!" and "WHY DON'T YOU BRING A SHORTER JACKET?!" 💖
Unfortunately we will always make mistakes when packing: one for a different country weather and style, two because we can't pack our entire wardrobe (even a minimalist one!)

Agreed! Always a fun learning opportunity!
Buona Pasqua, Alyssa!
Perfect timing, as I'm already packing for a similar trip! Thanks Alyssa 😊
Thank you for sharing your mistakes. My most recent one was basically bringing three different versions of the same outfit. I got bored very fast. Different proportion are definitely key!
Great points! I travel a lot and very light but like to look like I packed a lot! I totally understand these mistakes and it’s helpful to hear these tips! Keep the videos coming!
I used to be a chronic over packer. I did eventually overcome this bad habit. I think in your case Alyssa the few items you mentioned you miss is an amazing achievement. You have done so well overall, 👏 Thank you for sharing 😊

I still tend to pack too much and end up not wearing everything. You’ve done so well in planning if it’s just these few items you are missing. And those are pretty easy to pick up on your trip to fill out your travel wardrobe. Don’t be so hard on yourself, the goal is not perfection! And have fun shopping for some pieces you’d like to add! Happy Easter!
Love love love this video! I mostly love how you compensated for what you didn’t have with you!!! Fabulous
Thank you so much for this video! I'm going to be taking a number of short trips in the upcoming months, and for the one-week trip I already took, I was also missing some variation in color (as with your red shirt). But I realize now that you mention it that I was also missing just some fun pieces and some variety in proportions. I will definitely keep proportion in particular in mind for my next trips. Wonderful video as always Alyssa!
These are SUCH good tips!!! Thanks Alyssa!!!!
oooh I feel you there! Our travels are usually very sport and outdoor centered, with very limited options to bring a lot of stuff (hiking, biking, survivalling, backpacking), so my travel capsules are always super sensible. But I have found myself quite a few times, lying awake at 3 am in my little igloo tent in the scandinavian wilderness, just yearning for my bright red skirt, or a pair of heels; things that I'm not even that bothered about at home, but just being able to tap into that part of yourself again.
Great video, Alyssa…I also made a mistake recently. I travel between the UK and the Canaries a lot. I’d forgotten how cold I can get in Tenerife, so have brought back cropped cardigans and a black hoodie. Had to pack for a week in the UK with only hand luggage last week, though…you would have been proud of me and my little capsule of items. I also got a some great pieces from the local charity shop…I do love a charity shop! 💙💙💙
I absolutely loved the look of your camel blazer with the flare pants and sandals and will copy that! Favorite sweater I'll keep that in mind next time I travel thanks!
SO so helpful, thank you!
Ciao Alyssa! I love how you make time to review what you took on your trip. It will help to know what to pack next time. Hope you had fun in your travels. 🥰 XOXO
Yes I loved and totally enjoyed this video I was anxious to see how your travel capsule was going to work I learn so much from you honey thank you so much
Love that! I learn so much from you 💕
Ok. It is sunny for most days this week! Well done. Yes, big chunky sweater are versatile for sure! Even on rainy summer days. Enjoy your time abroad! Xo Joanne 🇨🇦
Soooooo happy you bought that white cardigan 😍 it fits you perfectly and is so chic!!!
Absolutely helpful video!
Very interesting content! I wouldn’t have thought of proportions specifically but it certainly makes sense. I haven’t travel a lot but I usually bring my most fun earrings and sunglasses with me. I can really change my looks with my earrings, since I have vintage style ones. Some of my earrings I have had almost 40 years!
Such an interesting video! And I *love* your fancy PJs and would totally wear the shirt
Thanks for the great tips. I will keep them in mind as I plan for my trip to Portugal and Spain during the shoulder season in early September. Happy travels!

It’s still hot here in early September, so don’t bring too many sweaters! 😊🤣
CIAO Alyssa! That white cardigan, is a Awesome add ti your closet. I'm having that melow of missing a particular piece that you left @ home, wile you travel for a wekend or a month 😬. Also I love wearing courds tops and bottoms, Like a red cardigan jacket, that is quite old but very usefull, specially un a transition season, I can style ir in Spring ir fall. But currently, You had styled your pieces very well, no wonder I've being a styled fan of yours. I like and love your styling ideas 👍 you're awesome and smart Alyssa CIAO
Saving this for a sunny day next week! Have fun! Xo Joanne
Oh man, I never bring chunky sweaters traveling. Even traveling in winter, I layer thinner wool layers. If I go somewhere really cold in winter, like Sweden, I can't really pack enough cold weather wear anyway (you have to wear a whole snowsuit 😳🥶). I feel really comfortable wearing the same five t-shirts all the time, with the same couple of pairs of jeans, so a lot of these things you talked about, I just can't relate to. But...I've DEFINITELY packed too many "summer" clothes during a trasitional season, and was just too cold because I didn't have enough wool socks. Of course that's just a good excuse to go get more wool socks!
Excellent
Really helpful!!!
Such an honest video Alyssa
Thoughtful suggestions. I am going to Tuscany this summer for 10 days and want to bring some red pizazz to my more neutral wardrobe.
Thank you🙏
Hi Alyssa! I would love to see a video of you showcasing your convertible backpack, capacity, durability, and how you style It day to night. Also, I absolutely LOVE your necklace :) Greetings from Mexico!

Thank you! Great suggestion xx
Interesting insight. I will consider that when packing.
All useful tips. Thanks. And I love g the is length of video… not too short or long.
This was a great video! 👍 It’s really good to know that even though you are so much better than this than I am, we are all human and occasionally you make mistakes too! I mean that in the nicest way: you are so far ahead of me in this journey that I can’t even see you, and it’s daunting to think that everyone else doing this kind of thing has totally got their game together except me 🤣 You have managed to resolve your mistakes in really innovative ways, especially using your pyjamas! Do you find that there is anything you took with you that you haven’t worn? Not because the weather may not yet be warm enough, but because it wasn’t the right thing to bring? I’m curious because I ALWAYS come back from a trip with unworn items, sometimes things that I take on multiple trips and don’t wear (I don’t seem to ever learn!) so I started keeping a list of all my items and keeping count of how many times I wore each to understand what works best and worst for me. I’m hoping this will eventually pay off and allow me to understand my personal style, pack appropriately and gradually decrease my wardrobe. 🤞
Love this, so helpful! You’re outfit is classic❤️Where can I get that button up shirt, and belt?
I have trouble traveling without a billion different scarves. Btw, I covet your flowered scarf so much!
Every time I travel some place warmer than Minnesota (which lets face it almost everywhere), I find myself regretting that I didn't bring some warmer layers. I love my icebreaker pieces. I have a cardigan that can be warn like 16 ways that's icebreaker and it has made traveling in the UK bearable because the weather shifts so frequently.

I went to Duluth, Minnesota twice this winter from Texas. I brought too many warm layers the first time and brought more fun colors the second time. I really over packed both times though.
I have traveled a lot. In the 70s and 80s I pack backed for many years. One trip was 2.5 years. I know how to travel lightly. Now I still take one carry-on and a day pack when I go for 2 months. The most important thing I take is some laundry powder and a clothes line. I get pretty sick of the clothes and often leave them behind and fill my bag with gifts on the way home. Basically, I take a dress to wear to bed that can be worn to breakfast or the beach, three bottoms, four tops, five panties, two bras, and a jacket. That is 12 outfits. Keens are great shoes. I don't take jewelry or anything that I love. Things get lost, stolen, or worn out. I avoid white. Daily hand washing and line drying keeps everything fresh and is quickly done.I sometimes buy a nice item of clothing to wear on the trip or take home. As time goes by one realizes that much is superfluous.I am packing for Hawaii now and including turquoise and red tops for fun. Enjoy!
I think it’s ok to buy clothes when you are visiting another town or country. -Oh , What a nice sweater -Thank you ! I bought it in Portugal 2022 when I was there for 3 months! 😂🇸🇪
I try to maintain some red, burgundy or purple accessories or tops, for that same reason.
💯💯💯❤)over how you make fashion look so easy
Those jeans (Light blue wide leg) !!! Love them! Please link😀
Where can we get a similar cardigan?!? Love it!
Your "mistakes" are, I'm sure a worldwide 'oops' and one that's easily fixable! Thank you for sharing. I like to add a pop of colour to a one or two colour wardrobe capsule to brighten my look and my mood.
I could have said something but from my past comments with you I realized that it was futile to even suggest or critic. Now I think a puffer vest would help you to keep warm and be trendy at the same time. 😅
Would you share a post about spending time in Portugal and any recommendations for where to shop and places to stay? I always enjoy adding a few new items to my wardrobe when traveling as a useful keepsake and am planning a trip to Portugal this summer-I’d love your opinions!
I would love a video more in depth dealing with not having the right proportions. Not sure if I’m wording it right. I have mules and I’ve recently come to realize I don’t like shoes without backs unless they are actual sandals. Does that make sense?
Climate change! In Nice,France in March weather to be 70+, it was cold. I had a red wool blazer.no sweater,no jacket. I was so sick of that red blazer after 1 month. I live in az,doesn't get cold, but had the blazer! Coat next trip in August/September.
would love to know more about your cropped boxy white sweater. can you share?
♥️
@Alyssa Beltempo Would you mind sharing what brand the second hand top/cropped jacket you found? It's great on you!
Hello!👋 What do you suggest for the cooler months?
Don't feel too bad about not including a pop of color. Years ago I spoke with the national president of a large women's organization. For 12 weeks that year, she had to travel to a different regional convention every week. She packed a great capsule wardrobe of black, white, AND RED items; when she got home every Monday, she washed it all, repacked it, and flew to the next destination. I met her after about week 8, and she was already saying that as much as she had loved the clothing when she originally chose it, after wearing the same limited items over and over again, even with the color pops and changing up the combinations, she was ready to burn them all :)
Alyssa, where are your earrings from? 😍
“I’m not fancy”. Hahahaha.
Can I ask where your wide leg jeans are from? Very nice
Who makes the platform sandals?
What brand is your wide leg Jean pant
I gave away a lot of my sweaters, before moving from Colorado to Malta. Big mistake!
Where do you get your pants? I’m tall and small, so finding pants that are long enough are like looking for a four leafed clover. I just have accepted having pants that show my ankles.

See Banana Republic 3 choice length pants
I didn’t wear my heels, at all. And I didn’t wear my fancier shirt. Besides that everything I packed for 10 days, got worn…a lot!
Missing fun, frivolous and fuzzy. Interesting.
Chèn quả nhạc lúc cả nhà đang ăn nghe rất bình yên, thoải mái. Cứ chèn nhạc như vậy nhé Lộc.
It would’ve been just as easy to go out and buy a sweater you didn’t have to be without it
Also I think Canadians might dress more conservative than Europeans so it's hard to interpret until you're there. Where I live people dress VERY casually.
I am a long time follower and I must know how do you stay so skinny? I stress about my weight as I weight a lot more than you. I dont wear pjs so i save there ... lol . help how do you stay so healthy ?
