Really awesome restoration! Love these fans just got 3 of them for Christmas thanks to friends knowing my love of them (3 Lakewoods not all the same) but happy to have learned the best ways to keep them strong and healthy! Appreciate it

Seems to run faster than most of the ones I've seen from that era. 223 is the correct model number. This one is from around 1988 or 1989. The blades became white in 1990 and were rounded off at the tips shortly thereafter. The 200I did exist in a tan version. The 200I was introduced in 1990 and the tan color was phased out in 1992. Excellent job on this one.

I just got 2 of those 3rd gen Lakewood p-223 box fans at a estate sale With their original boxes and they are FILTHY. This video will be really helpful for fixing them up!

Not bad at all for free! I've seen plenty of bent plugs and locked bearings, but this was ridiculous.. I really do have to wonder how in the world it ends up getting like that.. In regards to the bearing noise, I suspect what happened is when you were turning the shaft with the pliers (which is something I would strongly advise against for this very reason) you may have ever so slightly marked up the shaft, and when you pulled the bearing off, it may have scored the bearing.. I always like to sand the shaft before removing the bearings, unless it goes with absolutely no resistance.. What PSI do you pressure wash at? Do you soak in any cleaner prior?

Sorry for the late reply, but for some reason, I haven't been receiving notifications that people have commented on my videos! That's interesting, I never thought of that doing much damage. I always sand the shaft down after disassembly and usually look at the bearings too. I don't remember noticing anything but it has been a while. I will have to inspect them again in the future. However, for a knock a round fan, a little bearing noise isn't the end of the world. I honestly don;t remember what PSI I power wash at but I don't use any cleaner before hand. I use it as a way to dust hard to reach spots like grill slats.

The comment notification system has not worked properly for years... Bearing noise is probably the lest annoying noise a fan can make, but it doesn't make the noise unless there is something wrong with the bearings, so it's still no good. I've tried pressure washing before and it didn't seem to completely clean up all spoilage unless it was soaked in a cleaner prior. I find a very diluted solution of condenser cleaner works nicely. It's possibly my machine isn't powerful enough, but at the same time I'd be worried about the plastic breaking apart at higher pressures.

Once I had a really badly seized GE Motor, to fix it , I put a drill on the output shaft of the motor and then after i oiled it I would use the drill to spin the motor and work the oil in. havent had any other chances to use the tactic but it worked so well

Just be careful that you dont damage the bearings that way.( Spinning dry bearings with a drill can damage them and can do serious damage to the motor is they are really seized.) If I were you I'd just pull it apart and clean everything up and oil it when you have it apart. Thanks for Watching!

@@colin_5839 absolutely it can. In retrospect not sure it was the best idea but I was making sure the wick was deeply saturated with oil. It’s a real shame that the motor ended up being on its way out anyway. Must have been running when it seized up. Had an old vornado do that to me so I don’t run it unattended anymore. Thankfully I was there and was able to get the poor thing running again, hasn’t failed me since. Also would like to add of course I’m not spinning it fast. I know how delicate those old GE ball motors are with their unibearing design. Pretty sure the thrust washers in there were trash anyway. There was a slight rubbing during operation. Actually had 2 GE ball motors burn out on me. One I Bought on eBay and it smelled so bad I thought it was a smokers fan. Should have known something when it didn’t run on low anymore. The thing drew 3 amps while rated for 1.1 and the seized motor drew 1.65 and wouldn’t go down much more than that. I have a perfectly working copy of the fan so I had a baseline. That fan ran 1.01 amps. Slightly underamping, you would most likely know considering you have an all purpose also, you have one of the later models, the f15a2. The fan I’m talking about is an f11a1. 2nd gen all purpose I’m lead to believe. The first gens were the all plastic ones, the seconds are the frost grey ones, the thirds are the spruce blue ones and the fourth gens are the white ones ( the one you have) people oftener misjudge they f11a1 as the oldest even though it’s actually the all plastic one. Ok end of enormous comment sorry that probably took a while to read.

Ahh ok, didn't realize you were talking about a GE Ball motor! Yea those can be tricky! A lot of them have loose windings and it's really hard to get them apart to re varnish the windings! I think the loose windings vibrating over time ends up leading to an untimely demise for many of those fans. Otherwise they are great fans! Keep it well oiled and you should be good!

I have a Lakewood S223 that we’ve had in the family since the 70s or 60s I swear man does the same thing used to have a 62nd spin down but it was in my bathroom at my dad‘s house and we get knocked over a few times when stepping over it and now it won’t spin I want it to spin though But it does the same thing but it’s the wide bode version the pointy corners not the rounded corners

My friend owns this exact fan and it’s actually from 1983 and the model is P-223

I'm sure if you look around there are either parts fans or spare motors around, but there are no brand new bolt in replacements that I know of as of now unfortunately. Thanks for Watching!

How exactly do you remove the blade? Ive got one like this and i cant get it off.

It should just pull right off. Sometimes they are stubborn but I just grab under the blade hub and pull and the usually slide right off. Thanks for Watching!
