    Vornado fans are awesome. I have a collection of vintage and newer. In fact I have this same model of window fan. The old ones were definitely built to last, most need only a quick clean and oiling to run like new. I recently found your channel and like watching you working on fans. Thank you.

    That table fan is from the 80's. The National Panasonic of the 70's, the motor casing was made of aluminum and the blade too, shortly afterward a model came out with a light blue, non-translucent rigid plastic blade.

    That turned out great, bro! The dark Hunter has a great look. Nicely color matched(close enough), without the baby puke green we see on some restos. Thank you for the shout out on the paint technique and assistance. You know I always got your back and wouldn't recommend anything I haven't done. The final result is one to be proud of! Even though we are spoiled with pre-1910 fans(your tank for instance), the AOU is hard to beat. That and Emmy 29646s. So glad you are helping keep these old beauties for around another 100+ years!!! Apologies for not getting to this sooner. You know the situation, but I made sure to take the time to properly praise the work you did. I like that you stick with it until done. Too many people get overwhelmed and never finish theirs. Keep it up, bro! 🤜🤛 🍻

    I have the 16 inch variation. It is also very cosmetically rough and the blade is a little bit bent up. Also, it has a busted grill. But I got a replacement grill for it. I plan to fix the blade and guard and do the wiring but leave the cosmetics alone. I kind of like the faded glory appearance..

    Very nice restoration! A few years ago I bought GE Fan off ebay with the brass fan cage and blades that dates between 1910 to 1914. Unfortunately the wires were cut going to the head. I am pretty good with electrical but I had a difficult time finding exact wiring diagrams for a fan of this era. My fan has what looks like a transformer in the base of the fan. I really would like to see if the fan runs before I start restoring it. Currently its been sitting in a box in the closet for a few years. Can anyone tell me a good website with detailed information on the exact wiring for a fan of this generation? I've watched every KZread video i could find on these early fans but couldn't find anything that showed me how to wire it from scratch. Once I see that it runs it will be a huge motivation to continue with the restoration. Any advice or links to wiring schematics is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Very nice fan. I found a rusted up one at an antique shop once like yours but it had the star wheels & was a steel blade fan. I fully restored it & sold it later, I really didn't have a good spot for it. The hardest part was replicating the curved cage wires as a lot of them were cracked were they were coiled around the hoop part. I had to drive some heavy nails into my workbench to make a bending jig for the new wire. Smooth running fan when it was done, wish I didn't get get rid of it as well as an oliver batwing typewriter but oh well. It was all going to be a part of a steampunk/retro computer desk Idea I had. Start with a hidden popup typewriter desk & build your computer in an old radio case. The flat screen monitor would be in mabie a slimmed down tv case or picture frame & the mouse made out of an old telegraph set. Also somehow wire up the typewriter to do keyboard things.😁✌👍

    Thanks! Ohh very cool! It was likely a wartime production 2 star if it had the wrapped cage with stamped steel blades! That's very cool that you were able to repair the cage. That's not something very many people do! And man that sounds like an awesome desk idea! PC in an old radio case would be sooooo cool! I might have to try and replicate something like that someday!!! Hello! I know this videos is old, but I've browsed forums with little help. I just came into possession of one of these fans (Pre 1960 as the logo on the shroud is red.) Everything works, and the spin down time is a little over 30 seconds with no out of the ordinary sounds. I'm not an expert on these, but it seems to run a little warm. I've heard the old shaded pole motors tend to run warmer due to them being less efficient but just out of curiosity I checked it with a thermometer and it read just over 103° Fahrenheit. I suspect that it may have been apart at one point in time as the nut on the bottom has been replaced with a much newer stainless steel square nut, and rhe blade is ever so slightly crooked. Anyways, I just wanted to know if i should be concerned about the temperature it runs at, and if its normal. Like I said, it makes no noise, has a nice long spin down time, and seems to be well greased. Just wanna know if its normal to run that hot. I should also add that it doesn't seem to slow down when it gets warm, nor does it put off a bad smell. Thanks in advance!

  • @colin_5839
    @colin_583917 күн бұрын

    Nice! Yeah GE used shaded pole motors on these and much like all other GE fans they tend to run pretty warm! As long as the windings are below like 130 to 140 degrees F and the amp draw is within spec I think you should be fine! 103 on the outside of the motor housing isn't bad at all! Thanks for Watching!

    @@colin_5839 one more thing I forgot to mention. The rod that holds the blade has some back and fourth play and when I tilt the fan forward it seems to spin slightly faster. Sometimes it'll buzz louder than usual on startup. Is that a normal occurrence for these? Sorry for blowing up your inbox lol

  • @colin_5839

    Sweet! I recommend a full mechanical and electrical servicing before running it too long. Pull the thing apart and replace the old head wire, revarnish the stator, fresh fiber washers, fresh rubber gromets, fresh grease in the grease box, clean up the switch and fresh oil wicks are always good too! Many of my other videos show these steps in details and it's pretty much the same stuff no matter what fan you are working on. Also, I'm always happy to answer questions to let me know if you need help! Thanks for Watching!

    If I could just get the blade off. Mine is obviously oiled well but I need to get in there. I've tried using two screwdrivers to pop the hub off from the back but that sucker is stuck on there. I did it! I got behind the blade only with my fingers, pulled real hard and wobbled back and forth, pops off. For anybody else taking this apart, open the gearbox and remove the gear that's engaging the worm gear on the rotor, then remove the rotor. Put the rotor back in before you put that plastic gear in.

    Do you repairs? I live in Los Angeles, I have an Emerson 77646--AN (I can't read the last digit of the 5-digit #, so it could be a letter) I took it to someone to repair the "cord" everything was working fantastic, but the cord looked frayed and got warm, so I thought I needed to replace it. When I went to the shop to pick it up, he had it running on low, so I thought it was fine. But, it does not work. It had different speeds, it oscillated but no longer. It has sentimental value to me, and just a cool fan.

    Neat! Would be cool to have the whole X-ray setup for it. And some lead to hide behind lol. The AC and DC voltage will always be in direct proportion to one another. Load on one or the other circuit will change them slightly, but the DC voltage cannot “climb” without the AC voltage doing the same. You could probably run something like a simple shaded pole fan motor by reducing the voltage to around half, ie 60 or so. And it would run at half speed. Would need to use a transformer rated for around twice the voltage, ie 240, due to the half frequency. It would be fun to play with!
