Wow! You really led me on a trip down memory lane! That black box was originally an 8 track tape storage box. My husband (then boyfriend) of 47 years had one of those in his car. When we were dating we listened such artists as Kenny Rogers, Tommy James and the Shondels, Credence Clearwater Revival-just to name a few-and they were all stored in that little box 😊. We would often just cruise around our small town on Sunday afternoon and listen to the music, stop and visit with friends-who were also cruising. My goodness it was so long ago and I haven’t thought about it in years-but you have put a smile on my face this morning. I love the way it turned out. I think it was disposed of years ago,but I believe I’ll just check in our attic to see if we still have his. If I find it I’ll definitely repurpose it-very likely the same as you did yours! It turned out great and so did the crib turned arbor. Thanks for the video and the memories! ♥️

Oh, Carolyn! You just described the summer after I graduated from high school!! Small town, cruising, meeting up with the boyfriends, playing the 8 tracks...oh, my! My boyfriend (later to become my husband) took great joy in having the best sound system in his car. He installed speakers under the front seats and when we would turn up the bass, the seats would vibrate! ( I can hear “Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress” as I write this!). Love those memories!

2:33 That makes me very sad. I love snakes and Garter snakes are harmless. You could have even easier pushed it away with whatever you used to kill it with. I understand many people fear snakes, but maybe in the future you can think of them as an exterminator of mice and other things that can be harmful to you and your home.

I think we who are afraid could use lessons on this. I wonder if garter snakes are that predictable if you pushed it away. I will ask the question but won't do a case study. 🙀
@barbaraness4507

Carol G. Hello. I don’t know if you’d call it predictable, but snakes are more about going somewhere to get comfort or food. Garter snakes will not lunge at a person, and would only bite in self defense. They don’t have fangs, just some short sharp teeth. Their two self defense measures are to flee and to emit a horrible smell/poop if held.

@@barbaraness4507 Once there was a snake in the parking lot at work. An engineer said his little kids wouldn't be afraid of it. He picked it up and flung it across the lot to move it for me. I said DON'T HURT IT. I've lost fear of mice and many spiders in our area, but snakes should be going the opposite direction from me in the woods, be contained or be held by someone who knows what they are doing. I was working in a grade school when a student had their brother with his BIG snake come for show and tell. I was ok, but as he walked around the circle of kids, holding it in his hands, the kids kneeled or stood to get close to it. I said don't put your face in it's...thinking it might feel threatened. That was based on a dog I had 15 years prior She was a friendly, passive dog that I found as a stray. Discovered she didn't like non-family putting their face right up to hers. I told a couple of visitor kids that and I think they felt they were so lovable it didn't apply. They got snapped at by my dog (not hurt). That snake didn't snap. Once it was rumored a pet snake got lose in an apartment building I lived in. I had jeans hanging on the bathroom door as I put them on I felt a lump in the leg. I thought... oh NO...don't panic...and quickly realized it was a sock! Our imagination. I hope never to encounter a snake near a door by myself.

I live in Australia where we have 9 of the top 10 most venemous/deadly snakes in the world. Even so it is illegal to deliberately kill a snake. But if i was worried about my kitties i would definitely want to kill it!!!! I really hate them.
A garter snake won't hurt you they are basically harmless. There is no need to kill them. You can pick it up with tongs and put it in a bucket with a lid and turn it loose in the back of your property.
Saddened you killed the beneficial snake, maybe next time sweep it on it’s way. As for the awesome projects, excellent and so enjoyed these transformations!! Love what you do Mary 😊

They were all so cute..I’ve had that same crib for 30 years, all 6 of my children slept in it & I was saving it for my grands but decided that it probably wasn’t up to code anymore to use as a crib but I just couldn’t bring myself to get rid of it, I knew there had to be a way to reuse it so thanks for sharing your idea 🤗

You are so amazing. That arbor is so clever. I have a at least 150 year old cast iron baby bed that is in pieces now. My father in law found it and I used it for my twins until they were 5 months old. I have often thought I could use parts of it for trellises. My health is not good enough now to do that . My twins are now 54. I love watching you.💞

Mary Everything you touch turns out so beautiful. Just want to say garter snakes are absolutely essential for your lovely garden. You can easily pick them up, or scoot them into a box with a broom to be carried outside and released. I used to be terrified of snakes, too, until I learned how they’re so needed in the environment. You’re creativity and skills are amazing. You are an angel sent from God to inspire all of us in a million ways ❤️
Just a friendly FYI Mary, I did not catch if the white paint on the arbor was a water base or oil base but if it is water base putting an oil base clear coat on top will cause it to lift. I had that happen on some benches I built and when I asked at the paint department of our local hardware they said that is the nature of it and to never use an oil base over the water base paint. If the white paint was oil base, then of course, it will work fine. I just thought I would warn you before you found out the hard way like I did. The arbor was such an inspiration! I just love it.
Hi Mary, I don’t know about everyone else, but I look forward to Wednesday every week to see what you come up with, amazing work you do on ALL your projects! Love all three! ❤️❤️❤️
I’m terrified of snakes and couldn’t just pick it up and move it somewhere so I’m not judging! 😁
As I’ve been saying , ur so creative. Love the Arbor n the gate a special touch. Putting junt (rope) around the bottom of the bird cage was so clever. Everything turned out great n I know someone is going to grab that Arbor up quickly unless u fell in love with it as much as everyone else n u decide to keep it for urself. I’m still amazed at how u figured out in making it n having enough spindles at spacing it out perfectly. U R THE BEST. ♥️😆👍🤟🏻

I love your trash to treasure videos! They are my favorite ones. Thank you for the inspiration!
It's really too bad that so many people don't like snakes. They are an important strand in the web of life. Killing them rather than relocating them is the easy way out. Venomous snakes can be problematic, but garter snakes are perfectly harmless and can be easily relocated away from outside the home. That said, I love all of your projects this week. You are truly an inspiration for creating useful things out of castoffs.
Love everything!!!!! 😍
