I did my trapping course this spring and was doing everything from 110's to 330's by hand. My instructor was just mind blown. Stated he hasn't seen anyone do that in a long time.. Until I explained and demonstrated it, then we had other people trying it and winning.. Thanks again!👍👍💯

great video as always. We caught the biggest beaver so far this year on a channel set like that on the line in Northern Ontario. From watching your videos, I used the two stick method you used here. Push the sticks into the bottom, push the trap down between them, spread the springs to secure it at desired height, blend with vegetation and move on. Very quick and effective set especially when the lodge runs are in 8' of water or buried under the feed bed. Tight chains.

Just got back from a quick line 23 beavers in 3 days. I usually set by hand, till the day I pinched myself in a belilse 330 now I keep setters with me.

I always carry a rope with me. If you don't know how to set a 330 with a rope, you should learn. Every trapper should know how to do it, you'll certainly be happy to know how when you catch yourself! Good luck with setters when one of your hands is in the trap!

@@Savage3OO6 we learned that in the trappers course yrs ago and I have practiced it. Sometimes rope locks up or slips through the gap in the spring, but any kind of safety is better than no safety

@@peterjones7288 You are definitely correct about the rope slipping through the gap, I've had that happen with numerous ropes, especially cargo straps. Now I carry a rope with a little bit of thickness to it to help avoid that. Though, that makes it harder to fit through the eyes.

You inspired me to set 330s by hand a couple years ago, but one thing that I never see you have problems with that I struggle with all the time, is getting the spring caught on the knuckle of the 330. Somehow, it seems like you just glide right past it, but I get caught up on it 4 times out of 5.

Depends on brand, I have Bridger's and the spring eye is tight, I have to wiggle around a bit to get past the hinge, or knuckle as you call it, other brands have bigger eyes and go right past without catching.

ive heard you say in a few videos that you think there is only 2 big beaver in a place -so what leads you to believe that ? and will it be considered trapped out after catching them - I trapped a place this fall caught 2 bigger beaver 40ish lbs each and then we never caught another -thanks for sharing your knowledge thank you sir

I am an amateur trapper and caught a bunch my first season but my state (stupid Massachusetts) doesn't allow body grip or footholds, live cage trap only, which makes trapping not only egregiously difficult hauling in and out large cages but also super expensive since said cage traps are not cheap. My one season trapping, word of mouth would have given me lots of trapping (for $) opportunity but it's impossible in my stupid state. I'm a 5'2" woman and carting in and out cage traps big enough for a beaver is just not worth it. If I could pack in and out with a bunch of 330's? I'd be golden and be able to help people. It's beyond frustrating. Nobody in my area hunts or traps.

Have the same situation here in Washington state, although here if you put in forth the effort to trap with live traps and just can't trap anything you can apply for special trapping permit and use body gripping traps, don't know how, Massachusetts operates there trapping rules but it might be worth looking into, I know your pain with the cage traps, good luck.

@@peterjones7288 Not really easier. Anchoring them is more difficult. And now you have a live animal that will tear up the entire set location. 330s are pretty unforgiving and easy to set. Also they kill immediately.
