Most of this is filmed in southern Tel Aviv, which is quite run down an neglected. But it attracts a lot of young people, and is currently going through a process of gentrification. The northern part of Tel Aviv is wealthier and appears much more orderly and greener, with open spaces and proper wiring.

All the people commenting on how unsafe it looks, they're in a neighborhood in south Tel Aviv called Florentine. Yes the buildings are rundown, but Florentine is where most of the big popular clubs are, it's one of the party neighborhoods of Tel Aviv. The city is also remarkably safe. Like, I live just north of the Yarkon River (In a neighborhood called Ramat Aviv, also called 'The New North') but I routinely find myself wandering around down in central or south Tel Aviv at like 3 in the morning and I have never had a problem. Whatever the security situation for the whole of the country might be, Tel Aviv has one of the lowest crime rates for an urban center its size in the world. It might look dirty, but it's plenty safe. Side note: About all the graffiti they showed, Tel Aviv doesn't really have designated graffiti areas (Like some cities do), but the city government is SUPER proud of the street artists. Taggers can get fined, but usually they're left alone and even encouraged to tag stuff. Hell, the city runs graffiti tours down in Florentine to show it all off. There's some sick art down there.

It's a trade off. People are free to create expressive street art because clearly the socioeconomic conditions and attitudes of the area are poor enough that tagging and blatant graffiti are not cared about or addressed. Graffiti like that would never fly in western countries, even at the expense of street art (because the two shouldn't be regarded as the same).

noge Actually graffiti is really appreciated in a lot of big countries. For example, I live in Brazil and recently the new mayor of São Paulo tried to "clean" all the walls of famous streets and was so criticized he actually gave up. Also, I could tell you a bunch of big cities around the world where street art has a lot of representation, some cities even have full neighborhoods filled with graffiti as entertainment for tourists, like Belleville in Paris, Wijdesteeg in Amsterdam, Mullae Art Village in Seoul, Tennozu Isle in Tokyo, and London even has tours dedicated to those who wanna see the best street art in town. A city with a lot of graffiti has nothing to do with having too much socioeconomic issues to care, to me, every art is expressive and the more art a place has, the more culturally rich that place is.

+Vitoria Except graffiti is blatant tagging and vandalism, and is not equivocal to street art, which tend to be beautiful illustrations, installations, and pieces on walls. They shouldn't be regarded as the same because it gives people credence to dismiss street art on the premise that it's "grafitti" by legal standards. I love street art, I don't love someone randomly tagging their name in permanent marker inside a train window. A city that permits a lot of GRAFITTI tend to have low socioeconomic standards. A city that permits a lot of STREET ART tend to be more in tune with their citizens and understand the value of art and what that means for people.

Haha this was so good! Im living in Florentine but in a newer building. Was living in Saigon, Vietnam for three years before here. So I feel like I have been unfazed by the power lines and all that. Vietnams are even worse. After watching this I look at the neighborhood in a whole new way lol. Also you guys filmed one of my murals! The one with the Dog with the flip up hat. If you are ever back here ill take you guys to paint on stuff.
