transience
Ойын-сауық
Reality is fickle. Time slips away. In this video, we will take a look at the transient nature of existence, and learn some ancient lessons from Heraclitus and the Buddha on how we can harness this knowledge to minimize our suffering.
Fun fact - Heraclitus is known as 'the Weeping Philosopher' because it is thought he was prone to suffer with depression and/or melancholia, resulting in him never finishing writing out his teachings. That mantle was subsequently taken on by me when I started my philosophy degree in the year 2019 AD.
Dedicated to Baji,

Satie was a wonderful choice for the score. You happened to pick one of my favorite melancholy pieces. I guess I'm a time traveler, too. :-(
I love reminding myself about how the universe and myself are fundamentally no different. I think it's immensely cool that (how exurb1a put it) whether I'm having a good days or bad days, all the while I will be aware of the fact most atoms in the universe fail to have days at all. Though life is impermanent, so long as someone can reach the end of their life confident within the knowledge that they have been a good person, the universe can never change that. Ultimately, I fail to see why we should worry about anything else My best friend and cat, who I've known my whole life died less than a week ago, and this mindset helped me immensely to come to terms with it. He is gone, but the impact he will have had on my family and myself can never be changed, and will always have been positive. That is something that not even the universe can change. Probably - who fucking knows tbh lol
I really enjoyed the ending to this. Made me feel at peace.
Bro you killed me with the time traveler joke lmao
I was due my daily dose of philosophical rants, this came at a perfect time.
The first half of my day I spend anxiously procrastinating. And the rest I spend regretting wasting all that time and promising myself that tomorrow will be different. What is wrong with me?!

The day before yesterday I felt like breaking my habit of procrastinating little things. Pretty soon it snowballed into doing big things. I feel like if I'm not careful I'll burnout but it's been nice getting stuff done.

Another banger video from an existentialist statue
"If loss like a choir, then our feeling of loss is like a Cathedral. Where the sound echos and reverberates of the walls, until it builds into something almost unbearable." Permission to steal that? That is bloody brilliant whether you thought of it or you found it somewhere.

Damn I really needed this. It's got to be one of my favourite videos so far
i'm so peacefully anxious that makes people around me fury...but that's how life is.
This video really describe my day today. This morning I placed a note asking sombody to be my Valentine. So I have been anxious all day waiting for the response. Depressed afterward (just had a 20 minutes cry to Shine On You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd) by the response. So I was anxious for the future by waiting for the reply, depressed by the replay in the past and now somewhat at peace writhing this. PS. English not first language
Erik Satie is probably my favourite composer - I'm glad you used his music for this, as listening to him always makes me thoughtful.
I could add another semi-pretentious quote as a comment, but I'll just say I jam on your wavelenght and it's quite lovely here.
I needed this thank you
such an amazing video as always man
Thank you! This makes me feel a lot better. I keep having periods of existential depression. I had my first brief period with it in year 3 when I was reading a science book that mentioned the death of the sun. It can be really tough because I feel like it’s a hard thing to get rid of, and I really want to because I’m only 16. I just hate the idea that all possibilities of life would cease to exist if the universe ends. This video is beautiful!
You are easily becoming one of my favorite KZread channel

Great work
Good video! It reminded me of a story: One day Solomon decided to humble Benaiah ben Yehoyada, his most trusted minister. He said to him, "Benaiah, there is a certain ring that I want you to bring to me. I wish to wear it for the Sukkot festival, which gives you six months to find it." "If it exists anywhere on earth, your majesty," replied Benaiah, "I will find it and bring it to you, but what makes the ring so special?" "It has special powers," answered the king. "If a happy man looks at it, he becomes sad, and if a sad man looks at it, he becomes happy." Solomon knew that no such ring existed in the world, but he wished to give his minister some added humility. Spring passed and then summer, and still Benaiah had no idea where he could find the ring. On the day before Sukkot, he decided to take a walk in one of the poorest quarters of Jerusalem. He passed by a merchant who had begun to set out the day's wares on a shabby carpet. "Have you by any chance heard of a special ring that makes the happy wearer forget his joy and the broken-hearted wearer forget his sorrows?" asked Benaiah. He watched the elderly man take a plain gold ring from his carpet and engrave something on it. When Benaiah read the words on the ring, his face broke out in a wide smile. That night the entire city welcomed in the holiday of Sukkot with great festivity. "Well, my friend," said King Solomon, "have you found what I sent you after?" All the ministers laughed and Solomon himself smiled. To everyone's surprise, Benaiah held up a small gold ring and declared, "Here it is, your majesty!" As soon as Solomon read the inscription, the smile vanished from his face. The jeweler had written three Hebrew letters on the gold band: Gimel, Zayin, Yud, which begin the words "Gam zeh ya'avor - This too shall pass." At that moment Solomon realized that all his wisdom and fabulous wealth and tremendous power were but fleeting things, for one day he would be nothing but dust.
Great video, much appreciated.

Not necessarily, really your motivation all becomes dedicated to achieving inner peace and striving towards enlightenment. However, this makes a lot of things, like doing your homework or going to work/school seem less important to you. Still, because of the pressure society puts on you to do those things, it could be your downfall.
Mystiverse, could you maybe do a video on different books youve read and would recommend for the purpose of enhancing ones philosophical scope. Cause I likes the way you think

The total amount of energy and matter in the Universe remains constant, merely changing from one form to another. The First Law of Thermodynamics (Conservation) states that energy is always conserved, it cannot be created or destroyed. In essence, energy can be converted from one form into another.

Each possibility described as per the "'Ultimate Fate of the Universe'' is based on a very simple form for the dark energy equation of state. But as the name is meant to imply, very little is currently known about the physics of dark energy. If the theory of inflation is true, the universe went through an episode dominated by a different form of dark energy in the first moments of the Big Bang; but inflation ended, indicating an equation of state far more complex than those assumed so far for present-day dark energy. It is possible that the dark energy equation of state could change again resulting in an event that would have consequences which are extremely difficult to predict or parametrize. As the nature of dark energy and dark matter remain enigmatic, even hypothetical, the possibilities surrounding their coming role in the universe are currently unknown. None of these theoretic endings for the universe are certain.

I think i still don't understand the idea of non-self. I mean, i know I exist, i think therefore I am, so I guess it is about the fact that there is no fix way that I am, because my personality changes and my body changes and more stuff changes. I am just not sure if that is it, and if I understood. (If someone reads this, could you please explain it to me?)
@mystiverse

That's exactly right! If you introspect, there's nothing you can identify as a 'self' but rather there's a flux of different perceptions that flow over time. If you're interested, I made a video on the topic!

In a state of impermanence at times you're thinking in terms of the future, but we are not still beings so that's up to change depending on situations, so at times you're in the past, but at times you're in the future.
