Transgender youth and the fight over medical care

Six-tenths of a percent of all Americans identify as transgender, including about 300,000 teenagers. At least 121,000 trans kids have been diagnosed with gender dysphoria - severe distress, even suicidal thoughts, related to their gender identity. But since 2021, 20 states have enacted full or partial bans of minors receiving care that doctors say could ease suffering and even save their lives. Correspondent Susan Spencer talks with family members trying to help their loved ones. She also talks with the president of a conservative advocacy group working to make health care for trans minors illegal.

No one outside of the person and their parents have the right to make medical decisions for them. You can tell by his attitude that this is about power and not so called, "care for a child's personal medical care." Such a smug pompous arrogant attitude about thinking he has the right to determine medical, emotional and mental care for others. It is utterly appalling! That being said, I do think that the age for actual surgery should be at least 18. People change their mind often from childhood to adult. Surgery is permanent. Living as the person you feel you were born to do is something you can do and then navigate whether you want this to be permanent change. Passing laws on things like drinking or driving are laws that can put others at risk, not just you.

According to the testimony of many who have transitioned and then detransitioned, what they have is a mental illness and needs treated as such instead of affirming a psychosis. Once the damage from so called transitioning is done, most can't be undone. I know people mean well, but they are causing a lot of pain. And the fact is that there are only two genders and you cannot truly change your gender. So there's that. As evidenced by transitioned boys, playing as girls in girls sports and dominating. As a teacher, I see large groups of teens, often in the same friends group that all claim to be "gender neutral" or "boys" when they were born girls. Then I guess people can abuse children then by this statement. We have laws to try and protect children who are vulnerable to many things. I recommend you find some stories of the ones that transitioned and now are de-transitioning. There are now lawsuits against the medical professionals and the fear they always report of their child committing suicide they have not followed up with the people that have transitioned and still commit suicide or the horrible side effects of the surgeries they are doing to young people.

@@RocStarr913 "this is not a contagion" Every time you get a kid that's transgender, it's incredibly common that someone else in their immediate family (usually other children) are also transgender or at least some type of sexuality. Tons of these parents claim to have multiple transgender children. Raising your children to have a fixation on sexuality before they're even old enough to understand what sexuality is sets them up for depression and suicidal tendencies, not letting them be and letting them grow up to be who they naturally are. These kids are raised to be trans from the start.

If doctors were arguing that transwomen are a category of men that need medical procedures (or use an alternative term such as calabai), we could have progress on this topic. Once anyone hears a doctor refer to a transwomen as she, that doctor is no longer credible as a neutral analyst.

Body dysmorphia is a thing. Everyone is familiar with gender bending and eating disorders but there are many unusual ones people totally ignore. When I was a child, I was so jealous in school when someone came into school with crutches or casts. They would get attention and everyone would sign their cool pink or florescent yellow cast. They didn't have to do gym and people would carry their book bags. Sometimes older kids would volunteer to push them in a wheelchair and they could use the teachers elevator. I became obsessed with the notion of having a fake leg. I also liked the metal ones runners used. I got older and I saw a documentary about people who remove unwanted appendages. Thankfully, I realized it was part of a OCD and It is a mental problem that wasn't solved by operations. I have a very unique perspective. I understand, whether people want to address it or not, that MOST of these conditions are brought on by....(get ready to be triggered)...FOMO and jealousy. Yes, it is true. Simply, not getting the attention, perhaps a sibling or friend is getting, even a movie character can set it off. Add this with a mother who suffers from Munchausen and you have got the perfect storm. Mothers who don't support you emotionally daily, only when it might get them some attention. My mother was obsessed with making an issue about my food allergies every where we went. If appendage removal was an option for kids well, let's just say my life would have been destroyed Also, can we talk about Ava's poor ignored, sad little brother. If your kid is going to transition and become someone new, STOP, talking about their past self. New school, new identity, just change and move on. Why al the BLAH BLAH BLAH attention mongering BLAH BLAH BLAH.

Blue toys, pink toys, dolls of all kinds, bottles of pesticide, a razor blade, spiders and anything within reach. Once the story reveals the parents have brainwashed themselves it becomes obvious that they likely did the same thing to the kid. All children at this age know nothing that isn’t taught. That’s what makes this absolutely criminal. Child abuse comes in many forms and for many reasons. Rarely the abuser recognizes what damage they are doing. @@RocStarr913 there is a difference between very young children, teenagers and adults. That child was and still is too young to make physical, chemical or psychological changes to anything related to the subject. The parents own words suggest that they had a substantial role in the direction of the child’s thinking. Then they acted on the response they stimulated in the child. They were talking about behavior the child possessed prior to verbal communication. The behavior they mentioned was not abnormal. Many if not all of these millennial parents that do these things will one day have to answer to their children for what they have done. Word to the wise or in this case not so wise. Virtually all children grow up to love their parents especially their fathers. Even children raised in bad situations where the father deserves no credit, respect or love. The atrocities depicted in this particular story very well may be an exception to that rule. To take a persons identity would be difficult to forgive. Taking it from a child and then bragging about it on television is abhorrent. No one with any sense would put their family out there like this unless they have a sick sense of a calling. Which in turn proves the first point. They wanted a girl so bad they talked themselves into believing it was his destiny, then went on national television to convince other people it was and is the right thing to do.
