Transforming our front door using the power of paint

For those of you who don't know, NEVER paint exterior brick, if you can avoid it. That brick will spall over time from moisture being trapped behind the paint. The freezing and heating will cause the face of that exterior brick to crumble from expansion and shrinkage. Bricks are extremely porous, and they absorb the moisture from the air. That's why contractors almost never paint red brick walls.

I think it all looks amazing. I bought tile to put on our front area before you walk in the house. It’s not large enough to call it a patio area being it’s a 5x7 but I couldn’t get anyone to lay it. I got mixed reviews about putting tile there. Now that I see it’s been painted… I may do that and put a stencil or something!?!

Painting brick compromises it. Any moisture in the brick gets stuck and degrades the brick causing it to chip. Any chips in the paint will cause moisture to get in and not be able to air out as well further degrading it. He has essentially reduced the life of that side of the house

I agree with your point in general, there are less expensive and possible ways to improve your property, but to be frank this was not a small job. Several hours of cleaning, plus removing doors and replacing locks, plus at least a couple hours of paint/ sealer, plus a couple hours for plant buying and potting. Let's not even get into the cost, which is probably most people's biggest hurdle. Paint is not cheap and it doesn't go very far, especially when you need specialized paint like for concrete.

@@pavkey88 a day? this guy is a pro diyer or does painting for a living. To learn everything he did, not screw it up, made the finish actually look good and last a long time, have all the tools required to do this in the first place (way more than even shown in the video) for an average joe to just go and do this would take loads of research, loads of money to invest in the tools/materials, and then since its their first time I guarantee you it won't turn out as good or they will have to do a do over. This is easily a 30-50 hour job for a first timer. For most people who work full time/have familes (the only people who can afford to own a home) have about 4 hours a weekend to do dyu stuff/regular home maintenance/cleaning/ect... youre looking at like around 2 months to complete this job.
