DIY Hidden Bookcase Door - Murphy door build
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Follow along as I build a hidden bookshelf murphy door to a theater gaming room. I was able to complete this build for around $100 by doing it myself.
Hinge - amzn.to/4aHkYvx
Door catch - amzn.to/4ctYIqG
Wall paper - amzn.to/43vKDof
This project cost me, personally, around $100. It was very custom to my space using a lot of salvaged materials. I don’t discount the amount of work that went into this. It was very labor intensive but the materials were cheap.
-1sheet 3/4” Radiata pine-$49.95
-2sheets 5mm eucaboard-$27.00
-2-2x4s-$8.00
-Door hinges-$10.00
-Doors-free(30 years old salvaged out of a remodel destined for the dumpster)
-Select pine face frame/trim-free(leftover-actual cost $30)
-Paint/Primer-free(leftover-actual cost $50)

As with a Gate the diagonal bracing Always ascends Upward for constant lifting. As for Glue, yes from the very start. A small bottom ball-bearing wheel would assist wonders with load swing. Beautiful job
That was the most genuine like and subscribe I’ve ever heard 😂. “Like and subscribe so my wife will let me do more of this stuff.” You got it man 👍
I’m a remodeling contractor and I have to say how very impressed I am with the skill and detail you put into this project. You commented that you are a novice woodworker, but you did as well as many professionals that I’ve seen on KZread and have worked with. Keep building, you’re a natural at it. 👏

@@pyropulseIXXIIts not the door thats in question. Its the child's imagination. Remember to us adults, a cardboard box is just that. But to a child its a house, a car, a boat, spaceship, Rollercoaster, sled, and on and on and on.
My Dad designed our house when I was a child. He put in two secret doors, one small one. What treasures. And came in super useful for avoiding unwanted visitors too!
Love the fact that a guy so talented - can out the hinges in the wrong side. Makes me feel better 😎
i would never guess there was a secret room behind what a fantastic job you did on that, perfection
From a fellow woodworker, very impressive. And recovering from the hinge goof (we've all made) without having to hide it speaks volumes about your character. Well done!

A couple of 4x2s on hinges mounted on the opposite wall with rubber stoppers on the end, one level with the base and the other with the top would make the bookcase seem solid from the other side when engaged would effectively make it just that. Relying on deception rather than full security, but should keep the kids safe from an intruder for a time should such a need arise.👍

Impressive. I have always loved the idea of hidden rooms. You did such an amazing job and it’s looks totally professional! A lot of people would walk right by and never know there was anything behind that bookcase!
Man that's not NOVICE work! Who you kidding, LOL. But that's absolutely fantastic. Some guys claim to be carpenters can barely do shop math. Great attention to detail and symmetry. Great work.

Amazing build! You said you aren't a woodworker, but your attention to detail is far beyond most! My only suggestion would be that your diagonal cross brace should be in compression instead of tension. But since you glued on your backings, it probably won't matter.
I so appreciate how clear your instructions are & even more that you included the part about messing up the hinges at first because that made me feel so much better about all the mistakes I’m about to make trying this. Those kids have a damn cool parent who’d create this.

This rocks! You are a cool Dad. As an imaginative child my Daddy would make fun furniture for our fort and doll houses, we were poor but the one thing he had was some reclaimed wood from other projects. Our fav place to hide was a hideout nook.
Nice. I've wanted one of these. Actually, I want several. They don't have to be secret. I just think doors are a kind of wasted space. They provide privacy but can be so much more. A canvas for art. A place for Paperbacks. A shelf for toiletries. When the door is open. The soap, shaving supplies, tooth care etc are out of site but easily accessible. Even a shelf for small plants. I'm glad to see a novice can do this. Cause I am a novice. 👍

For a security situation, continuous baseboard is imperative. Dead giveaway for anybody, robbing your house, etc.. Otherwise, it’s a good looking project. Another tip, use a hidden wheel to hold up the weight of the bookcase.

Great ideas, I for one and forward thinking enough, I’ve done this for 40 yrs, every time I go to do something and something is not there ect, I will add it to the next build. The best is the tv, I have tons backing and put a small built in cabinet below it with a 2” conduit run to both. Hides wires. Tons of little things to make a home better.
