Transforming my DIY Aquarium Stand into a Beautiful Cabinet
าฎะน ะถะฐะฝัะฐัะปะฐัั ะผะตะฝ ะฐาฃะดะฐั
Today, I turn my diy 2x4 aquarium stand into a cabinet. I've never really liked aquariums that show all the filtration and equipment because it takes away beauty from the aquarium itself so heres a simple way to remedy that :)

I love how you show the steps of creating aquarium stands, most fish keepers I watch either buy the stand or show the building of it sped-up
@RyoWatanabee
ะัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
Thank you! I build most of my stands but itโs also nice to buy a solid stand that will last a long time.
tank stand looks great, I would leave it looking two tone, great job ๐๐
Looks great! I like the two tone look.The magnets look better than hinges. Your aquarium stand looks professional. You do good work making the fish room frames and sills. Great JOB!
Job well done!!! I like the two tone look with the slight inset where the other layer would be, gives it a nice look. Plus should you change your mind you can always add the extra pieces of wood. Also love those hand saws, I've had at least one Japanese folding pull saws in my tool kit for over 40 years.
@RyoWatanabee
ะัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
Dean, thank you so much! I recently got myself that pull saw and I really enjoy using it. I was debating whether I should go with an inset, offset or to make it flush with the stand. Glad you like the inset :)
I might have to copy this door idea for my stand "soon to be cabinet" Super simple and it looks great! Cheers Ryo!
I like the two tone look on the rack and doors/covers. It's a nice look.
Nice work, Ryo! So cool to see how far you've come and how skilled you have become at doing-it-yourself! I think the cabinet looks great as is, and the reason you should like it more is that you made it all yourself. Keep up your great work!
Do whateva you love the most, bro!!!
Well done on the trims for your windows and doors, great job and big improvement. I 100% prefer the 2 toned look with your cabinet doors.
Wonderful work, nothing beats making things with your own hands.
REALLY good one, Ryo! These types of videos have become my FAVORITES. You really use your imagination, and you are such a hard worker. it is truly inspiring. I LOVE the cabinet. Never in a million years would I have dreamt of doors like that; they are GENIUS. I like the two tone door look. Were you planning to oil the cabinet? If so, that might tie the colors together a bit. I also love the frames in the fish room. They give it a much more finished look. Your grandparents would be so proud of you, and so pleased to see how much care you are putting into the family home. Very good work, my friend. ๐ ๐

Good points Leila. Couldn't have said it better myself. ๐
@RyoWatanabee
ะัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
Thank you always :) Yes, I was planning on using some linseed oil to finish the stand but I've learnt that oiling large items is not a fun process so maybe I'll do it when I've got some extra time. RIght now I'm working a part time job so it's kind of tricky balancing my time. I believe the pine 2x4 will also get darker as it ages so that might work out.
@LeilaSoleil
ะัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
@@RyoWatanabee Oh yes very good point. I like the two tone look, so I wouldn't worry too much if it doesn't darken. It is a really fresh look. Well done. ๐
I really enjoy the 2 tone doors. Really nice work!
I think it actually works better than a hinged door, good idea, well done.
2 tone looks nice, as does the window and door frames in the fish room. Keep up the good work

Agreed!
Circular saws just take practice and patience to cut straight. They are a little awkward and very powerful. I prefer to use a table saw for straight line cuts when possible but not everyone has access to one.
@LeilaSoleil
ะัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
and perhaps the blade was not tight or sharp or something...

Or a track saw if there isn't enough room for a table saw.

@@LeilaSoleil Most likely lack of experience. A dull blade would leave significant tear outs.
Amazing ๐คฉ..!!! I love itโฆ๐ you are so smart.. congrats ๐
Looking good Ryo!
It all looks great you did a wonderful job
Looks beautiful โค
Two tone looks good.
I always like it when someone takes upon the task of building something themselves instead of buying something. Thereโs probably a learning curve, but thatโs all part of the process. Just as a little tip, instead of leaving a hole in the side, iโve used desk grommets to make a sleek design for feeding through the hoses of my canister filter. ๐
Those magnetic latches are an original idea. Not seen these used on an aquarium cabinet before. Well done, Ryo.
Everything looks great !! Nice work !!

Thank you! Appreciate the kind words :)
I just have to say I love all your VW shirts. I only own VWโs so it always makes me smile when I see your shirts ๐
Good job. I'm currently building a cabinet for my 65 Gallon tank of Goldies. And now looking for ideas on what to do about the doors. About the powered circular saw, it takes practice in cutting straight lines. If you can't find a table saw (or there's simply not enough room for one), look into building yourself a track saw using two 3/4 inch plywood. Get the local dealer to cut the plywood for you to ensure you have a nice straight cuts. There should be plenty of videos on KZread on DIY track saw rails for you to consider. Or, you could purchase your own track saw. Since you have a Makita drill then purchasing a Makita track saw (Model SP6000J1) shouldn't be a problem for you (assuming you can afford it). About using that Japanese hand saw, don't use it cut plywood as the adhesive used between the layers would dull your expensive blade. Use a powered tool or cheap hand saw. Like all powered tools, take extra care to not injure yourself. I know it's too late but something for you (or anyone else) to consider in the future.
The 4ft. crypt jungle tank will make a marvelous backdrop for future lives. It livens up the room too. Great stuff Ryo! ๐

DUDE! i just wanted to see aquariums, now I've learn carpentry. lol
Great job on the cabinet! Interesting way to do the doors. It worked out really good. I like the two tone cabinet look and would probably go with that. However, the contrast may pull the eye away from the tank. I'm sure in person the tank has plenty of pop to keep the focus. And nice work on the door/window trim in the fish room, looks good.

@richardenriquez5932 Hello there. I'm sure Ryo has videos of his aquascaping which he hasn't gotten around to editing yet because he has been working hard a lot. And he does these all by himself too, which is quite impressive. So we'll just have to extend our patience a little more. Oh and he has his IAPLC contest tank too that he can't show us yet because the rules of the contest prohibit public showing of the tanks, until the results have been announced. Just a little more waiting. Good things come to those who wait. Also on behalf of Ryo and the other moderators, thank you for watching and for commenting. It helps the channel a lot. ๐
The stand looks great! I want to make one myself. Did you treat the wood with like oil or varnish? Or is it just untreated..?
Hey Ryo, what do you use to cover your Wood screw holes?? awesome stand btw. Gonna try and make similar build as your other video.
What kind of wood did you use for the frame?
Thanks!

WONDERFUL WORK ๐ฎ๐ฉ 14:26
Link of the latch door thingy.
You could always stain the wood panels to further excentuate the difference in tone and if you don't like it easily cover it up with the more matching in color piece of wood later. Regardless congratulations on the beautiful stand your craftsmanship is respectable.
@RyoWatanabee
ะัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ

ะัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
โ@@RyoWatanabee At the end of the day the stand is all about holding up your aquarium. I screwed some 4by4 pieces of wood together with L brackets which was far from the prettiest result but serves its purpose, I also obsess with choosing pieces of wood with nice patterning and try to leave it on display as much as possible. I appreciate your humbleness but even though you aren't a carpenter your attention to detail is still very commendable and your clear passion for your work inspires me as well.
Itโs a brilliant idea the way you did the doors , why not just colour the wood maybe some artwork decoupage suitable to your taste .. or just paint it another colour ..
How many gallons is the tank you have?
@RyoWatanabee
3 ะฐะน ะฑาฑััะฝ
This tank is about 70 to 75 gallons
2 tone but I would stain it
very impressive! i love witnessing the continual evolution of your fish room and itโs surroundings. the two-tone look is cool but personally i believe if the cabinet was all one shade it would showcase the aquarium, plants, and fish more
@RyoWatanabee
ะัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
Thank you and yes, I agree. I'll make it all one color soon :)
2 tones
Pininterest
I think it should be one color, maybe matt white since the outside does not have any handles ๐. The two tone looks like you put in all that effort to make that stand and doors and got lazy to finish it up
Dude! - nice job! Both the tank stand and the home renovations. โบ
