💙 Who are we?
We are Ben and MP!
Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way.

A refrigerator and a freezer are really nice to have on a boat. Yes, you two do make a great team. 👍👍 Ben, please, please, please use some safety devices while using a table saw. You scared the begeebers out of me. Short story; Back when I was in shop class in my first year of high school (fall 1978 😭), there was someone I’ll call Charles. He was part of the tough crowd, and could always be found holding court out on the smoking patio at school, when not in class. He was in my shop classes that semester. On this particular day he was using a table saw. I will NEVER forget that day. Running across the shop, screaming, and a rag wrapped around his hand with blood everywhere. He was back in class the next week. 1 reattached finger, and 2 missing tips. He was a completely changed man. Those images are forever burned into my memory.

yep i have to say, i always wince at others using circular saws, especially when its really boring to watch and you tubers think its entertaining to speed that footage up, i have to skip it, safety dudes, its the law, do not skip anything, things bite and bite hard - i am usually very savvy at these things, but having told myself to check a set of steps before climbing, grabbed a box, used the steps, and then used them another three times, before they collapsed, i was only on the third step, as they collapsed the back side was against the wall, the front that i was standing on pushed my legs forward from under me and i landed on my back, i laid there in agony before getting myself out of the situation, i got to hospital and later was diagnosed with a fracture to my T12, yep a broken back and two years on much better, but have problems still, safety, if you think, don't skip it, DO IT

hey Ben, consider supporting your round diesel tanks the same way they do on heavy trucks. you could use flat stainless steel strips to make U-shaped bands to hang the tanks from the ceiling. Your wood supports would still help secure the tanks, but bands would stop pressure points onto those tanks.

Fit a sheet of plywood on the inside of the diesel tank support struts. Put some strong polythene bags under the tank and fill them with expanding foam similar to your dinghy. The foam will expand to fit the tank exactly and transfer the weight to the hull. 100 gallons of diesel weighs 880 pounds ,so good support is essential. The full support will also stop the tank distorting under the weight Been a subscriber since day and i am really proud of the work you both have done plus all your crew! Yaba looks beautiful afloat, where she belongs.Alan here in the UK.

One last thing as I have built 3 tour buses, same principles, you may want to consider installing a Macerator Pump for your Black Tank....it basically chops up all your sewage very fine and results in a lot less plumbing issues ie with blockages etc. If you use a macerator your outlet house is either 1.5" I believe meaning it coils up easier and takes a lot less room then them other big discharge hoses.. If you have the money you have the room to install a sewage treatment unit for Yaba, or one of those toilets that destroys the waste electrically, they have come along way....also if you can't afford a water maker make sure you carry at least 120 gallons of fresh water ie 2 x 60 gallon plastic tanks....and you may want to install a day tank for your petro....just some thoughts...just trying to help you out in some small way...much love from Canada!!!!

Highly recommend that you spend the money on getting waterproof, battery powered buffer to scrub the bottom of your boat. They are definitely a time saver and highly effective in removing all kinds of growth. This is something you will need to perform before getting underway after being anchored/moored or docked to reduce drag and improve speed & fuel economy. Also, supplied air to a regulator so that you can work effortlessly whilst cleaning the bottom or doing other work on the submerged portion of your boat. It will also be useful for recovering things in shallow waters. The boat is really starting to look like a yacht and less than a skow. Your efforts will make all the difference in comfort and safety for you and yours.

Hola amigos, When cleaning the hull, get 2 glazier suction cups. They stick onto to hull and give you something to hang onto. Get 12" stainless drywall knives. Google them. Add a 1 mtr handle. Now you can reach 2 meters from the surface. Makes the monthly task much easier

I love watching your videos, wow,, what an amazing journey, sinking and doing your best to get it out of the water, then a extreme rebuild and repair, and now splash back into the water and the list continues, however we are all here cheering you on. Love sent ,,❤

I’m so happy for you. Have y’all thought of an airless toilet that can be placed anywhere and you just change the cartridge when full. Awesome product. NO BLACK WATER TANK , NO HOSES. Just cartridges…. Use your new tank for more fresh water

I am Soo happy to see that the two (4) of you are finally enjoying the fruits of your labour. Kind of funning seeing what you both can now do to the boat than 3 yrs ago when you first started, now look at you both are pro's. Ben or MP, thank you for cleaning up the sawdust in the bilge, that stuff will plug your ballast pumps in no time flat.

You need to get a set of the big suction cups they use for moving counter tops and large windows. Then you could attach a rope from the handles to a belt so you could stick yourself in place when scrubbing the water line.

It's better to fill a refrigerator quickly to get it cool. Because an empty refrigerator only has air, which becomes cold much less quickly than liquids such as milk and beer. So fill it up as quickly as possible, the sooner the contents will be cool. Good luck. Greetings from the Netherlands.

When I was a kid, I used a stick, line, sinker, hook and a flower to catch fish. Sorry Ben, but it's not the equipment that is holding you back. Floating jig heads with a 1- oz sinker and a worm or minnow. (I became less effective at catching fish once I got expensive stuff) You can't catch fish if you don't have a line in the water.
