Transformers in Action: Tesla Coils - The Learning Circuit

Ғылым және технология

In Karen’s most recent episode of The Learning Circuit, she shows off some of the most amazing types of transformers, the Tesla coil. Tesla coils are a type of step-up transformer that incorporates a special type, called a resonant transformer. These function at a high voltage and high frequency. That high frequency can be modulated to even play music. The visible sparks generated actually excite the air surrounding the coil, and make a sound. Watch as Karen shows off 5 kits and see how incredible these transformers are: bit.ly/3uKRARi

Giday Karen, loved the explanation of tesla coils and the knight going into sparks. Maybe you could talk about the Faraday cage effect...

I got one of those small Tesla coil kits (3£ jobbie) - hooked up a buck converter to get the 12v and other onto USB battery bank and used it to test my bathroom fluorescent tube. Which worked, indicating that it was the starter gone and not the bulb without having to take it all apart. Who knew a Tesla coil could have a useful diagnostic feature that saved time. You do now.

Love the smell of ozone! We experimented with a Tesla coil in college. Seem to remember it using a isolation transformer and using a rubber belt to get the necessary voltages to jump sparks 4-5 feet IIRC. Cool stuff!

I built a 5 foot Tesla coil and gave everyone a necklace that contained lights in it and as we walked past the lights all began lighting up . It's fun for teaching

Why is every playlist backwards? I keep trying to go to playlists so I can watch a series of videos from start to finish, but instead it's ordered finish to start! It's really frustrating. I get that KZreadrs have more important things to worry about than the order of their playlists, but all you need to do is sort from oldest to newest - it isn't that hard! There's literally a button for that!

@element14 For the sake of ALL the gods of learning - fix your playlists order to older first and newer at the bottom! What a pain this is to take *playlist* and still manually search the next video as it autoplay plays series now backwards order!! Seriously
