Transformers: Human Alliance (Arcade) - No Damage - 1,250,750

Ойындар

Here's a high-scoring, no-damage playthrough of Transformers: Human Alliance, Sega's 2013 mounted gun game based on Michael Bay's "Transformers" films. This was played on Teknoparrot using a GUN4IR light gun.
Human Alliance plays like Let's Go Jungle, but I personally find it more fun and intelligently designed than that game. In the arcade, you used mounted guns, which are harder to aim with than using a light gun. However, the game can still be 1CCed under those conditions.

Human Alliance has a dynamic difficulty ("rank") system. When the game starts, if you're playing particularly poorly you can die in 4 or 5 hits. However, once your credit has gone on for a certain period of time, you'll only survive 3 hits max. At high rank, enemies will also shoot faster, and boss targets will take more hits to be destroyed. Taking damage temporarily lowers the difficulty.
Beating a level awards a health bonus that's equivalent to one extra hit, unless you're already at max, in which case there's no bonus. Your health bar is misleading. Seemingly random quantities get deducted from it upon damage, or added to it upon the end-of-stage health bonus, but this doesn't change how you actually die in a fixed set of hits. It is possible to be at "max life" even if your health bar isn't actually full.
Stage 2 gives you two level choices: England and East Africa. I chose East Africa because I find England to be a much harder and lower-scoring stage. The camera movements can really throw off your aim.
Scoring well in Human Alliance involves the following:
1: Combos. Your combo only drops if you miss too many shots, or take damage. Every ten hits awards an increasing bonus, which is ultimately 10,000 at 99 hits and 15,000 at 100. After 100 hits, the combo counter resets to 0, the bonus value goes back to its minimum value, and the entire score sequence starts over again. I like how you score higher if you don't shoot haphazardly, because in the arcade, it forces you to master the mounted turrets.
2: Destructible objects. Crates, barrels, traffic cones, construction barricades, and rocks (only in the East Africa stage) award 500 bonus points. They also count as hits for your combo.
3: Autobot/Decepticon Events. Various quick time events (QTEs), which involve shooting targets, moving the gun in the correct direction, or pressing the start button at the right time. They award grades based on how fast/how well you finish them. S ranks are the most valuable. I'm not sure what the score values are, though.
4: Weak Point Kills: Enemies award bonus points if you kill them via their weak points. These are typically headshots, like on the vultures and bipedal Decepticons. This value starts at 500 and increases to a max of 3500. The value appears to reset after each stage. There's a lot of risk to shooting weak points though, as they're small targets and missing could cost you health.
This game's design and programming has good prevention against unfair, off-screen instances of damage. However, the spider Decepticons can give you some nasty patterns if you have bad RNG. They ended a few of my no-damage attempts. Sometimes they jump at you from off-screen, and the camera pans towards them just as they're airborne and you have less time to react and shoot them down. The frame rate drops in the arcade make these enemies way worse to deal with.
Your performance throughout the game is factored into a "Friendship Rating" percentage. As you can see in this video, nothing special happens if your Friendship Rating is 100%, which is a bit disappointing. You seem to get a different Autobot icon based on the percentage itself, with Bumblebee being for highest percentages, but that's about it.

My favorite line has to be Jake at 16:54 saying "How frustrating! I was in the middle of something!" He sounds less annoyed and more cheerful, totally out of place with him and Vanessa's situation.

I wasn't expecting an accuracy-based combo mechanic in a turret game, but it's nice that it's basically a more lenient version of Time Crisis's no-miss bonus. Also I adore how stupid everyone sounds in this game, especially Jake. There's apparently a sequel to this game which I didn't even know existed until fairly recently. I wonder if that one is any good.

Yes--it's called Shadows Rising. I still haven't played it yet, but based on footage, the game reuses a ton of assets from the first game, and has similar gameplay. They added an achievement system and a "Hyperenergy" lever controller, which gives you a temporary shield or a shockwave that kills multiple Decepticons. Some QTEs use the lever, too. The combo system may have been changed, which is a bit disappointing, as I liked it in Human Alliance. Shadows Rising can be 1CCed/no damage cleared as well, which is nice.

Very nice! Definitely lots of interesting mechanics and nuances that go into scoring for this game. This is largely why I've sorta come around to this game more in recent years.

Thanks for watching. I've heard that Raw Thrills' Jurassic Park is 1CCable/no missable but I haven't had much time on it. One of these days I'll have to study footage and film some attempts at the arcade.
