Starscream is a lot of fun. While being the Monarch is powerful, the players who will have the most fun with him are those that just want to stir chaos. Get your Coveted Jewels and your Jinxed Chokers and stress less about keeping monarch and more about your opponents beating each other bloody. Attacking to the right for Starscream's first hit can pass a lot of pain around without too much blame.

Oh how I miss Command Zone episodes that talked about other aspects of Commander, not just “Card Review from the Latest Set”. WotC is pumping out too many products.

I have to say Slicer is a house. A friend of the playgroup built it, throwing a sword on this thing like fire and ice is devastating. Double strike and protection, it snowballs so fast.

Effects like Slicer always makes me smile. Yay chaos. Had a smile on my face for that whole section

Starscream is a huge flavor win, because he always gets his plans foiled due to his own hubris, so instead of becoming the monarch, he ends up making someone else the monarch, his plan being foiled.

Another important thing about Slicer: His effect is a "May" ability, so you dont have to give him away once you're down to the 1V1, or if it just looks like a really bad turn for him to attack. If you don't you convert him and your equipment fall off, but there are plenty of times that it would be better to not give him away.

Soundwave just need a lot of other token makers and X pump instant spells (to control damage dealt) and you'll be fine.

Soundwave is disappointing... too easy to flip into robot mode and too hard to flip back into non-robot mode. Because let's face it: what we really wanted was for him to stay in boombox form so we could get tokens off every spell we cast. Sadly, the only way to constantly keep Soundwave in boombox form is to bounce and recast him.

@@matthewhettel8316 Cloudstone Curio doesn't work with artifacts, sadly. The cheapest reusable methods, I believe, are Crystal Shard, Vedalken Mastermind and Erratic Portal. Even then, you're spending another 1WUB to recast Soundwave.

I've been tinkering with the deck quite a bit trying to force it to be viable, and I've found Grave Pact effects really good in Soundwave. You just need the best token generators. Bitterblossom, Shark Typhoon, Rabble Rousing, Grand Crescendo, Efficient Construction, Sai, Master Thopterist. You gotta meet Ravage and Laserbeak halfway. They can't do all the work transforming Soundwave back into the boombox. I think for mill, I just use Altar of the Brood, Psychic Corrosion, Mesmeric Orb, and Maddening Cacophony to fill opponents graveyards with spells for Soundwave to copy. Definitely a lot harder to build than I initially thought. It's so much hoops to jump though, but there is a sweet spot.

How about Reconnaissance for Soundwave to pull back unblocked attackers to get the just right dmg for the card you wanna cast if you would go over.

WotC is releasing sets so frequently I've lost interest. I just play with my old decks now. They've gone bat shit crazy.

a cool card with starscream as well if you plan to run Glacial Chasm is uh S H E O L D R E D the new one of course

I now want either a Game Knights or Extra Turns with them using these commanders.

A transformers series would be great. With 14 to chose hopefully more than one game.

for Blitzwing there is quietus spike a 3 colorless equipment that adds deathtouch and when creature deals damage that player loses half their life rounded up

the Decepticons are the good guys if you have the non-80s cartoon art. thats the gimmick with the 'shattered glass' Decepticon = good, Autobot = bad.

Megatron is incredibly fun, Protection Racket and Twight prophet do insane work in the deck!

Also slicer is a may to give it away, you don't give him away when you're down to 1v1

But there's also no way to get him BACK after you give him away. Let's say it's down to the last 3, one of your opponents is forced to swing Slicer with a bunch of equipments and kills your other opponent. Now it's the 1v1, they pass back to you, Slicer is still in their control. He'll also be very difficult to remove because you made him difficult to remove, unless you have a way like Toll Collector to now remove all those equipments on him. If it passes back to your opponent though (who you will recall is playing their own deck you have to answer on your turn as well as the threat you gave them) you're probably dead. Seems like it'll be tough to close games.

Doesn't starscream give an opponent the monarchy when he etbs? I assume that's why they gave him haste, to immediately get the trigger when he deals damage that way, if not please someone explain him to me

He has no etb effects. I think the haste is just so that he can immediately attack and get the monarchy into play.

You know what, I think I might build Slicer. I had a Karona the False God deck that I loaded with backgrounds, the goad enchantments, and swords and stuff. It sounds really good on paper, get a ton of value as Karona goes around the table. Few problems it had. Her making her rounds isn't optional, meaning I need to invest 8 or 9 mana in a single turn to play and goad her or else I'm dead before my next turn. She dies immediately to whatever sacrifice outlet unless I get Assault Suit. Slicer looks like he'll fix all of the problems Karona had. I can play him for 3 mana, which gives me time to beef him up, he goads himself and protects from being sacrificed which is amazing, and his effect is optional so I can keep certain players from having him if the situation arises. I'll just have to see if the color restriction bogs down the deck enough.

It would be interesting if you guys do a game of commander with the transformers as commanders.

You can put Yavimaya on your Slicer deck to get those forests 🙃

If you attack with starscream with first strike, and another creature without, you immediately take back monarch. Or just starscream with doublestrike

it is backbreaking for Soundwave that it isn't equal to or less. The way he reads just makes him bad. Slicer is really cool. so are Bllitzwing and Starscream. as for the best transformer, I think Optimus Prime is the coolest because you can have all the Autobots in the deck, all but 2 because they are green and he's not. the Phrase you are looking for is "Decepticons retreat!" :P

I can't tell for the others but Slicer really destroys casual table. The commander damage adds up very quickly, even if you do spread the love. It's insane. Stop this guy ASAP.

oh, I may need to try and build Slicer as a communism deck: it's red and your cards are everyone's cards.

SO with soundwave just run discard and mill cards then stealing be a lot easier so as you mill your opp out your also stealing thier cards

Can't you stack the starscream trigger? So that if you attack with 2 creatures that deal damage, starscream deals damage first giving them the monarchy then the second creature hits and takes the monarchy for you.

@@goofydragon8023 Because Master of Cruelties (the demon you're referring to) has First Strike. So, when combat damage is dealt, Master of Cruelties will deal damage first, which triggers its ability and sets the defending player's life total to 1. Then, Kaalia will deal her (normal, non-first strike) damage next, finishing the player off.

I heard about an interesting interaction with Starscream where, if you give him first strike and then attack with him and another creature, assuming they both deal combat damage to the player, Starscream will give that player the monarch and then it will immediately go to you as the second creature hits (because it dealt damage to the monarch). I...don't know if that's GOOD, but it's a thing you can do. Also, the fact Starscream incentivizes you to take the monarch but transforms into a jet when you get attacked by a bunch of goons is one of the most flavorful things I've seen on a card in a long time. Really nailed the "wants to be the leader but is also a huge coward" thing.

I honestly don't get the soundwave talk at all. You keep recommending cards for a go-wide token strategy and a Pyromancer strategy and at the same time you keep saying why it doesn't work. The Card itself however is not bad at all. It makes a strong evasive flier or 2 for 1 machine, that enables the front half by itself. You are mainly trying to play an esper control strategy with a beneficial value engine in the command zone.

Just curious you guys haven't done one on ultra Magnus technician have you

You have seriously underestimated Shockwave. Getting a 3/3 token just for casting 1-mana spell is very strong, and there are lot of Thopters to control his ability. You have completely missed the political aspect! "Let me hit you for 1, and I will cast your Swords to Plowshares at that BIG BAD creature!"

Is it fair to assume Slicer will go around the table every time? When you pass him to another player, that player becomes the controller, and the pass ability is a "may". So if Alice owns and plays it, and then passes the turn to Bob, she can give it to Bob. When it becomes Carol's turn, Bob can choose not to give it to her. At that point, it gets converted and goes back to Alice as a result of the flip (I think; if I'm wrong, that just means it stays with Bob). So Alice won't be able to give it away again until Dave's turn.. right?

No its actually you every time who will decide to hand Slicer over to the opponent as they only keep control of him until end of turn, after that he returns to you and then at the next players upkeep you can decide to hand it over to that player now.

I opened a collector booster yesterday and my transformer wasn't shattered glass, feelsbadman.

Imagine an episode when they actually talk about commander and not just what is new. Even better, imagine an episode where they don't also talk about these absolute abominations of cross over IP cards. The Command Zone was at a time one of the best places on KZread for EDH info. It's truly not even worth the effort of watching at this point. And that's not even counting the 10-15 minutes of commercials and ad content they have in every episode now.

Ive left magic, sold everything of value. The game has become dogwater. It sucks cause good guys like you will suffer due to the suits in the ivory tower. I hope FAB gets alot of mtg players attention, i wanted to pass MTG down to my kids but now i think ill just take them hiking haha. all love to the GK crew wish yall nothing but the best.

What trash cards. It's one thing to do crossovers sparingly, but when you start comboing crossover cards with other crossover cards it starts to look like Hasbro the Gathering with a few magic cards mixed in. I can't wait for the secret lairs where they make "Barbie, Anorexic Home Owner" and "Ken, But Actually A GI Joe" as exclusive commanders for $100 each. I hate this game. -.-
