Transformations of a function - How to do Pre-Calc
👉 Learn how to determine the transformation of a function. Transformations can be horizontal or vertical, cause stretching or shrinking or be a reflection about an axis. You will see how to look at an equation or graph and determine the transformation. You will also learn how to graph a transformation by looking at an equation and using its parent graph.

thank you dude so much this really helped me so much my pre calc teacher isn't really the best at teaching he talks to us as if we know as much as he does and expects us to know everything he does and I get really confused and stressed when I cant figure this stuff out so big thanks to you my dude you really helped clear some stuff up

Did you end up passing pre-calculus?
your very welcome! happy to help
10:51 if the 9 was positive and outside why did you shift 9 units down? Please help :)

Thank you so much for your thorough explanation. It really has helped clear things up for me. I feel like it shouldn’t be this hard to figure out and I do not understand why I am having such a difficult time! Your videos always help me so much!
Thank you so much that was helpful. Definitely watching all your videos
Oh god, I need to upgrade my precalc for dental hygiene school... I'm a tad dusty. Your video has helped me a ton, thankyou good sir!
Great video but could someone explain to me why I would ever need to know this

if u wanna work in this field of work it'll help greatly. i didn't know i wanted to go into cybersecurity until later into highschool, so this isn't completely useless. if i didn't take these classes i wouldn't even discover cybersecurity LOL

@@Ssm19494 Not really. Not EVERYTHING in those fields you mentioned requires this kind of knowledge.
I enjoy your classes a lot. Thanks!
I’m so grateful for your channel, thank you so much.
haha don't must have been a brain fart yest that is shift 9 units up!

thank you so much for this video, it really helped!
I UNDERSTOOD SOMETHING I AM SO HAPPY
weren't you supposed to shift 9 units up on the 5th trasformation or am i missing something

Yeah. Since if was +9, it was supposed to shift 9 units up. He must’ve made a mistake.

Thank you so much for this video! Transformations are so complicated, but this video really helps understand how they work. Thanks for the time and effort you put into your videos. I wish you were my teacher.

@@brianmclogan sir can I have your class I mean I am having 4 college class plus pre-cal and physics I like to learn a lot and help the world but man having these classes it isn’t the fact I don’t understand I just want to be able not to set at night and think what my teacher taught me I mean pre-cal and college algebra now and I am a high school student but uh I am definitely going to starting watching you dude I mean sure you don’t have the problems like I do but in a way try to find one that is similar

@@brianmclogan Also do you have a video about parametric equations with written questions this is part of my pre-cal test tomorrow
Hi Around the 2:30 mark, your demonstration of expand and compress for the c value is opposite of the vertical transformation that occurs. The function is expanding vertically (away from x-axis; your hands should move closer together) or compressing vertically (moving closer to x-axis; your hands should move apart).
THANK YOU. big pre cal test tomorrow. This really helped.

Isn't 10:56 supposed to be up 9 not down?

Ik he must have done a mistake!
best way to think about add or subtract inside the function is to set the equation equal to zero. for example if you set x-7=0 , then x should be equal to positive 7 (x=7) then we understand it will shift 7 units to the right. vice versa, f(x+2) -> we set to zero x+2=0 -> x=-2 so we shift to the left by two units. Hope this helps!
OMG THANK U SO MUCH UR A LIFE SAVER

I hope this also works the same for algebra 1 . Now that you have explained it seems less complicated.
thank you
good luck go and get it, let me know how you do
How would #1 on the problem you gave us to do not be reflect over the y-axis? Its -x^2 and I thought it was over the y-axis if it was inside the function? Is that negative sign not inside the function? Please answer this if you can, I know it was 6 years ago, lol.
wait for -rad x+1 + 9 shouldn't it be left unit and up 9 units ? instead of down 9 units ?
Thank youuuuu

In a problem I’m working on it says to graph g(x)=3^x+3 And then it says that the transformation of that is f(x)=3x But how? Like what is the process in order to transform the function/equation?
ok
What if it’s g(x)=-f(2(x-3))+2 ?
