Do you have an EQ pedal? How do you use yours? Let us know in the comments! Also note: if you didn't like how I used the EQ in this video that's totally fine! That's the cool thing about EQ pedals, you can use them however you'd like. They're very flexible tools! This is just an example of how you can use them but of course you have to use your ears!

Sometimes as an overall tone shaping tool but right now it's set up for guitar B, so I just kick it in to equalize for the different tonal characteristics when I pull out that axe. I don't like fiddling with all my amp knobs just when I switch guitars.

I use my 6 band EQ up front with a 10 band and parametric EQs in the loop. Pretty much an unlimited array of tone options at hand. The most powerful and underused effect pedal by most non-pro guitarists.

Hi ! If you don't mind, I have a question since you use parametric and band EQ... :) What is the difference between them ? And is there a reason for putting the parametric in the loop ?

  • @LookingForEntertainment112

    @LookingForEntertainment112

    2 жыл бұрын

@@Toronado7590 The parametric EQ has much more capacity to chose and tweak the frequencies you want to increase or reduce in your signal. A conventional EQ has a specific 6 or 10 preselected frequencies and you're stuck with those. I use it in the loop because I want it as a frequency shaping tool that won't be impacted by the tone stack of the amp. If it's up front I find it's less effective.

It's completely taken away the need for an OD, and doesn't cut away any of the low end on the amp - whilst tightening the 'Flub' up at the same time. Outstanding

Hi John, boosting the 500 Hz in the loop of an Orange amp is a bold move 🤘. The 250 and 500 Hz bands are typically sliders that I pull down (250 a bit, 500 way more), but with the IRs you used it sounds great! I run my Rockerverb 50 through DV-77's and feel that I get better results when the 3-band EQ of the amp is close to noon [bass a tick down, mids and treble a tiny bit boosted] and the EQ pedal pulls out the 250's and 500's. Love your content. Keep up the great work!

Now I got a 10-band one to start shaping my overall rhythm tone because especially when playing baritone guitars and 7/8-string guitars your tone is drastically different than with a regular 6-string so I'll need a decent EQ pedal to shape a great sound for them low end monsters so it doesn't get muddy or loses clarity, definition while playing.. cheers

Great demo! Been waiting to pull the trigger on a 10 band eq for a while. One thing I would personally love to see is how one performs with a full pedalboard, specifically with a boost pedal engaged. Hot take: EQs are the best pedal you can add to any rig. I've been using EQs in the loop for years as boosts and tone-shapers, but after watching this video and Tom Bukovac's rig rundown i decided that i should also try the EQ in front of the amp as a sort of drive pedal. Now I have two MXR Tenbands on the board and the options are incredible. First EQ is right before the Preamp-Input. Works as a boost, tone shaping tool, but i can also use it as a filter for fuzzes and ODs that are in front of it. EQ in the loop: cutting through the livemix by pushing the mids but compensating in the low end. Roll of some highs for warmer solo tone too. Straight up live level boost if i wanted to and of course the tone shaping aspect for recording.

Hi, I have been asking advices about flubby low ends on my setup a few weeks ago, and I finally got a second hand MXR 10 band EQ following your advice. I use it on the direct input of a Marshall DSL20 + 212 Orange cab (not in the FX loop because there are several effects I want to add/cut at the same moment). The result is absolutely killer : the low ends are much sharper, and the EQ'ed distorsion allows my Drive pedal to sharpen the sound even tighter. Also, that makes 3 shades of distorsion for one single channel! This is probably the most noticeable improvement I made on my gear so far. Our bassist has so clearer lines now. :p EQ's are so underrated, thank you for the advice!

Yesss, EQ and too many people overlook it. I did, too, for a long time. Nobody thinks about Darkglass for guitar distortion, but an Alpha-Omicron w/ a graphic EQ after it can make an absolutely savage/brutal distortion for detuned guitars. I love my Exponent 500 head, I can put EQs anywhere I want in the signal chain :D

I have an OR-15 and have been wanting to get more into marshall territory on occasion. Will a eq in the loop accomplish that? If so it's sure as hell cheaper than buying another amp. Also not looking to completely change the character of the amp, just looking to get a little more towards that jcm800 kinda sound.

MXR 10 band single best purchase In 30 years of playing. Got one last year. If you think you need a new amp/pickups/cab/pedal try this first. Unreal results and flexibility.

Great demo on how useful the eq pedal is! Probably the one of the best and concise ones I have seen...well done. I use my 10-band in the loop of my Marshalls because I don't want to change the amps distortion characteristics, but even subtle eq adjustments in the loop make a huge difference in the taking out some of the harsher frequencies and helps it cut through even more than a Marshall already does

Eq pedals are not optional. It is the pedal to own.

Wow im gonna try it in front im curious, i use a DSL100H with a Maxon OD808 or Boss SD-1 in front and the MXR 10 bands EQ in the loop, my logic was to remove some low end before the pre-amp and bring it back in the fx loop to make it more tight, my amp is really mushy and its hsrd to get a dense saturated distortion that is tight… still working on it

Good stuff dude! I've always thought about getting an EQ pedal. Im currently playing through a dual terror, so no effects loop. Where would it be best to place this on my board? My setup is currently... Guitar>tuner>tube screamer>chorus>delay>amp

While I always liked having an EQ pedal in the loop of my amp, I also always hated it.. because I'd end up spending WAY too much time tweaking the tone. I just felt never satisfied enough with the results and figured I could always get a better sound. However, i think with having something like an AxFX FX8 like I do now, I may start playing around with pre-eq before amp input. see what results I'd get. Jon, videos always amazing and your tones (with and without an EQ) always crush. keep em coming. Cheers

Hi John. I own this amp and I’m thinking of getting the RedSeven by the end of the year. Are there any precautions I should take? Thank you for your mind blowing work. Cheers from Portugal.

i'm a big fan of eq pedals. however, for live use only. the mesa mark series eq built in is killer for shaping the amps tone, i believe post gain. the recorded tone of an amp has so many ways to eq the final tone without having an eq pedal in front or in the fx loop of an amp which can't be changed post recording. different IR's, external pro graphics for post production or in your pc. all adjustable after the original recorded tone.

Hello, I have a modeler multieffect board and I have a tube amp. My modeler allows me to turn off cabs and amps one effect by one, not all in one move in the options. May this equalizer let me to turn my amp in a sort of full range flat response loudspeaker? Thanks!

I agree - I generally set it between 10 and 2. Anything outside that and its not very good, especially at Higher gain, lower gain not as bad. Im gonna get an eq pedal for my own TH30.

I've been running this exact setup for my band for the past 3ish years along with a BBE GScreamer OD. Those two and a reverb/delay and this amp does wayyyy more than it has any business being able to do.

just wait until you use a DBX 266XS comp/ Gate in front and in the loop , keep in mind it has 20DB of clean gain, then you throw a BBE sonic max in the effects loop, and for a final razzle dazzle you use a DBX 215s parametric EQ in front and in the effects loop so in 3 rack spaces you have transformed your meh amp to the tightest crunchiest loudest amp in the room, guaranteed

On my Dual Rec: Ibanez ST9 in front and Boss Clone PQ4 in fx loop. I find that the use of the parametric EQ allows you to stay in the right tone of the amplifier because with a graphic EQ you quickly do anything if you abuse it.
