Transfer Files from Riverside to Descript: Edit Multi-Track Interviews and Podcasts

I guide you through the process of downloading your files from Riverside.fm and assembling your project in Descript for editing. Riverside.fm is my preferred platform for recording high-quality remote interviews, offering superior audio and video quality compared to Zoom, and providing independent access to each participant's files. This flexibility allows for precise editing, such as fixing crosstalk and positioning speakers individually.
First, I walk you through the steps of downloading your files from Riverside. I showcase how to navigate to your specific studio, select the necessary recordings, and choose between various file formats. I recommend downloading the "aligned video" and "raw audio" files for optimal editing. The aligned video includes black video segments for times when participants join late or drop out, ensuring everything remains in sync. The raw audio, in uncompressed WAV format, is ideal for further audio cleanup in programs like Auphonic or Audition.
Next, I demonstrate how to import these files into Descript. I create a new video project, upload the downloaded files into the media bin, and organize them for a clean workflow. I show how to create a multitrack sequence, allowing both video tracks to play simultaneously and stay in sync. This setup simplifies the editing process, enabling seamless cuts and transitions between speakers.
I then guide you through the transcription process in Descript. By right-clicking on each file and selecting "transcribe," Descript automatically identifies speakers based on file names and generates text transcripts. The transcription provides a text-based editing interface, making it easy to edit the content by simply modifying the text. Descript also color-codes each speaker, offering a clear visual representation of the dialogue.
Throughout the video, I emphasize the importance of using high-quality files and maintaining an organized project structure. This approach ensures a smoother editing experience and a professional final product. Whether you're a podcaster, content creator, or video editor, these techniques will enhance your workflow and improve the quality of your interviews.
By the end of this tutorial, you'll have a comprehensive understanding of how to transition from recording on Riverside.fm to editing in Descript. You'll be equipped with practical tips and techniques to streamline your editing process and produce high-quality content.
