I just rub the rear of the photo with a graphite stick and then attach the image to the canvas and draw directly onto the photograph with a hard pencil. Works a treat.

That's good technique. i've had the students use that in the past.

Use some charcoal or a charcoal pencil

This will result in a mirror image!

Yes, that’s correct. We mirror it before printing it out.
