Transatlantic Cruises: 10 Things You Need To Know Before Going

We will explain the 10 things you need to know before going on a Transatlantic cruise. There are cruises you can take in the spring or fall going to and from Europe from America.
Some of the most popular cruise lines to take on a transatlantic cruise are NCL, Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Princess and Holland America.
We just got off the MSC Seascape on a transatlantic cruise and it was a great time. We have since booked transatlantic cruises on the Holland America Zuiderdam and the Carnival Venezia.
Some of the topics we cover are food, specialty dining, what room to get on a transatlantic cruise (inside vs. balcony) and what direction you should face on the ship.

We love transatlantic trips. Days and days of quiet beach vacation, with no sand. Buy an analog watch and a clock for the room. Old fashioned with Hands are so much easier to reset, according to SHIP time, which is not necessarily the time our electronic devices want to give us. And we just figured out that a cruise, in an inside room, was going to be reasonable compared to the outrageous airfare. Eleven days at sea, no dishes to wash, no food bills, no beds to make, no clean up. Lots of books on Kindle, old magazines that I give away when done with them, and my sewing machine with many small quilting projects (and handwork so I can sit on deck). Heavenly.

Fun fact: “POSH” stands for Port Out Starboard Home from the early ocean liners leaving from England to New York and back - they didn’t have central heating and North Atlantic gets cold, so the best cabins had the most sun!

Many "tips" are just stating the obvious or common sense stuff you could figure out on your own. I'm so glad you were able to get some relief from the seasickness. Easiest way to figure it out, is to look at a map of the ship. If the front of the ship is at the top, that would be the opposite of what you want. You want the map with the front of the ship at the bottom. The front of the ship should be pointed in the direction you want to travel. If it is down at the bottom, you would want rooms on the right side of the ship to be away from the sun.

People take cruises every year. I'm convinced this is The Matrix and all I see is not real. I can see people with 6 figure incomes and more than 2 weeks vacation time at work having the ability to take 1, 2 or 3 cruises per year. Then the air travel and hotels before and after. The jobs I've had and have never give 5 or 7 days off in a row. I watch many cruise videos and see many people that look like they are low income or on Welfare on these cruises, especially whole families . To see Physically Disabled in videos is an extreme rarity. We can't fully enjoy cruises anyway.
