Trans Guy Problems: Top Surgery Recovery
Top surgery is a super exciting time, but there is just the little matter of dealing with the recovery time!
It's definitely worth it, but can be slightly problematic from reaching for things to even wiping your own butt.
Hope you like the video :)

I'm a cis woman but I need a similar surgery, breast reduction, for back issues. The recovery from what I've seen is very similar. The showering part here in Brazil is going to be a nightmare, my poor fiance who lives with me is going to deal with it. I'm loving your videos.

Thank you, I'm really glad it helps! :) I was super scared about getting surgery, and even about travelling to the hospital (I didn't do well with long car journeys back then), but the closer it got to my surgery date the more the excitement blocked out the fear. It was just something I needed to do, so I went through the motions and concentrated on the outcome rather than what I had to go through to get there. All the best with everything! :)

From a mom of a 17 year old FTM who is wanting Top Surgery, thank you so much for this video. Humor is always a comfort, and your honesty is very appreciated. You covered some serious questions I had as a mom who of course will worry about any surgery on her child, and how to help him through recovery. Sounds like it's going to be sink bathes, wiping his bum again, and a lot of air freshener. o.O ..Now I have to go google up 'dying nipples' and let me tell you, if this kid's nippy turns black and falls off.. I will scream and run the other direction. That or super glue it back on. :D

Did you end up getting top surgery? How did it go?
My top surgery was just yesterday! A lot of this stuff is so true already; getting comfy is damn near impossible, but I'll (luckily) be able to shower after only a week. For me another thing that's troublesome is the two drains on my sides and having to empty them, especially when I get incredibly nauseous and almost faint at the sight of my own blood in tubes (IVs, blood draws, etc). Looking away doesn't help either since I know they're there and being emptied lol. One thing that's kinda helped is one of my pets is sick and needs to be monitored closely, so it's gotten my mind off of me a bit since I'm worried about him. Plus, we can recover together!
omg when he said i think my nipple just fell off i died (:
I had top surgery 12 days ago and I got my drains out 2 days ago and I thought I was the only person in the world that was paranoid that my nipples were dead or that I could have somehow “pulled them off”?!?!? The entire time because my chest was all wrapped up so much. They’re still under dressings now but at least I know they were alive two days ago so we should be ok! 😂 I do however have a constant fear of lifting/stretching my arms in case I totally ruin my surgery or “tear myself open”?!?!? Thus fear feels very lonely. I’m still so thankful, I was on a waiting list 3 years and my surgery also got cancelled 3 times over two years due to the pandemic so it was 4TH TIME lucky. I never in my life thought I’d be able to transition let alone get top surgery but at the age of 17 finally began my transition after knowing since the age of 6 and never being believed or being allowed to transition. I started my medical transition (HRT) around 3 years ago and my mum is really good about it. People, please never loose hope.

Im having top surgery next week and I've never been so happy in all of my life, it's just such an amazing feeling of relief. Luckily I have a very high pain tolerance, so really it's just not being able to do things for myself I'm not looking forward to lol Thanks for this video man, it's super helpful!!
I’m getting my hair cut today!!!!!! It’s currently halfway down my thighs without straightening it; and I’m getting curtains (a boys cut!!!!!!) I’m so excited, but also very nervous! I can’t wait! (I’m also dyeing it bright green!) It’s not top surgery but it’s a step in the right direction. (I got my first binder a few weeks ago, after wanting one for 3 years, I’ve wanted a boys haircut for 4.)
Hilarious! I'm 2 weeks post-op and agree with everything you said - although I must say that I had (and still have...) a greater range of movement than I would have expected. Cool that you mentioned the inability to wipe your own butt. That was really tough during the first days. ;-) It's still impossible for me to cut things like bread or some vegetables. And if you usually sleep on your side or stomach - bye-bye quiet sleep...

Hi Jamie, I have my top surgery in a month, and I just want to say thank you. You've been a huge inspiration and help on my trans masc non-binary journey. Your videos of positivity and your own journey have made me not feel alone. For so many years I have felt that I was lost and the odd one out, but now I am able to see myself as who I'm meant to be. Thank you so much for being you, and for sharing and educating people on the trans experience. I guarantee you have saved so many lives including my own. Thank you.
I just had top surgery yesterday. I'm still in the hospital trying to get my pain med situation figured out. I'm hoping I'll recover quickly. I'm glad you made these videos so I could know what to expect. I really appreciate what you do and have done for the trans/LGBT community and all the lovely videos you make!
It may have been years since you posted this, but this was reassuring for me. It's Tuesday today, and my procedure is on Friday. I am so scared, yet so excited, and also so not prepared. 😂

this makes me look forward to fully transitioning,, seeing you transition has really helped and im just- its so nice it gives me hope for the future, tysm
I'm a trans-girl and had bottom surgery 6 years ago. For me the most annoying thing was that I could neither sit or stand or properly lie down. And I couldn't walk. So if I needed anything from a grocery store I'd had to ask my flatmates or friends for several months. I also couldn't ride a bike for close to half a year (and after a year I had the second bottom surgery which lead to 1 year of not being able to sit on a bike). I once rode to university on my bike and it got sooo bad that I barely reached it and then had to ask a friend on the way back to get home by car. A while later my flatmate was kind enough to ride my bike back from school. By that time the tires were all flat and he drove close to an hour instead of 20 minutes. I was sooooo embarrased by that ...
ugggggh im so fucking broke so ill never be able to afford to pay for top surgery. sigh.

They took my gall bladder out last year. I now have stomach scars. I quite liked the feeling of recovery. Once I was able to sit up it was quite nice having morphine every six hours. I didn't watch TV at all. I just meditated the whole time. I was quite comfortable. I hope your surgery recovery went smoothly too. I'm nervous bc I might be going in for a stomach surgery. I'll have to recover again. Lots of meditating. Anyways, when you talk about top surgery it puts me in mind of the cozy drug induced sleep I was having last year. Peace! (I love your channel). Be yourself. You may be anything you want to be!

I love that you are so graphic with this. I really want a flat chest but if I cant use my arms I'm gonna have to learn how to draw with my feet!
My top surgery is this Thursday. Thank you for all your helpful videos.
I was pretty good at figuring out where my nipples were. Also not only did I think I was going to lose a nipple by bending over, it felt like all the stitching was going to come undone. Luckily I'd bought a Gopher to grab things with and only forgot about it a couple times. The Gopher really helps out with the T-Rex arms. The worst part to me was the first point you made. Hard to get comfy and when you do you need to go to the toilet. :( Good luck to those going through this right now.
HAHA! That "oh, damn it!" face you made was amazing =D
I am so glad I have a bidet! I never even thought about that!!
I just got my top surgery scheduled for December 18th and while my surgeon was talking about how I won't be able to lift my arms for 2 weeks at least all I could think about was this video, especially the trex onsie bit! Apart from that I'm so excited to become a trex for two weeks!
