Medli Dorothea Loo began acting at age seven and went on to appear on television shows, films and stage productions in Singapore. Loo’s life changed drastically, however, after she underwent a gender transition and subsequently lost her TV job and hundreds of followers on social media. The appearance of LGBTQ characters on-screen is rare in Singapore, where media regulations restrict portrayals of people from the community.
