TRANGIA 27 1 UL - UNBOXING - CAMPING COOKSET

After much consideration I decided to purchase the Trangia 27 1 UL cookset. In this video, I unboxed and assembled the item for the first time.
Purchased from Ultimate Outdoors, price match with the official Trangia online store, and saved myself a few pounds.

This looks like a lovely bit of kit, nice to see the unboxing. Nice to hear high street shops matching online prices, it’s the way forward. Love the logo on the kit. Sounds like you have a good handle on the wind and how that will affect the cooking. Great that you have taken the time and care to carefully experiment indoors first. Look forward to seeing what you cook on it! 👍

That´s a nice unboxing of a nice piece of gear. I have a kettle, a cheap tea towel, an Opinel and a lighter in my Trangia kit(s). The spirit burner is not ideal for cooking steak. It just does not get hot enough for a good sear. For other meals it has a satisfying performance. If you like mac´n´cheese that´s worth a try. I own a Trangia 25 for 30+ yrs and a Trangia 27 - both in dousal. I am happy with both. I like the option to get spare parts for the set. The holes in the windshield are for ventilation and not primarily cooling. It can be advantageous to only partially expose the holes to the wind.

Hi there. Thanks for stopping by. From what I can gather, when someone buys a Trangia, it tends to last. It had a good life scan. I might try a steak, maybe not a thick piece but thanks for letting me know. Have good week.

I’ve purchased several items from Tjm metalworks (Treavor) and David Friars,,, not to forget Zed Outdoors 👍👍I would also enjoy one of the Spoon / Carving festivals that are in Your neck of the woods. Even the look of your wild birds ( compared to the US) are so unique, yet similar. Blessings to You,,,, Appalachian Trucker,,, in Virginia

Hi Rachel. One thing with the adjustable lid for the flame, it can't be used when the burner is in the bottom of the pan set nor when used with the crissy-crossy thing on top. (I know all the technical terms as you can tell.) Use mine mostly for boiling water for my tea, but do occasionally cook on it, no adjustable flame thing but yes to a crissy-crossy thing and I have a round twig burner which it fits in perfectly and my 700ml pot on top, keeps the heat where it needs to be and acts as a wind shield as the pot fits inside the twig stove thingy. Don't forget your crissy-crossy thing, although to be fair the pegs worked well... (Smiley face) Keep safe.

Hi Paul, thanks for the advice. I’ve had a spirit burner for years, it’s the the cookset that’s new to me. I’ve just a few different combos, such as a criss cross pot stand and a stick stove. All worked fine, however, wanted to get into cooking for real food once and and while. Thanks again.

My Trangia is looking a tad weary compared to your shiny new one. I only use it for static camping as I find it too heavy and rattley (is that a word?) to carry in my rucksack. Trouble is, I use it so infrequently that I forget how to re-assemble it afterwards... it becomes a krypton factor challenge!! Thanks for sharing, it was a good refresher session for me. 😊

Happy New Trangia Day. 😊 I bought mine in 2009 after doing a BELA course and, although I have had too many retail therapy sessions since, the Trangia is still used weekly. I’ve lost the yellow bag and the Trangia strap, and the pan/lid needs replacing (too many fry ups 😂). I also invested in a kettle and one of those lid things that treble up as a lid/strainer/cutting board. Hope you enjoy using yours 😊

Hi Rachel, Welcome to the world of Trangia. For decades they were the choice of Scouts and DofE. Completely idiot proof, bomb 💣 proof and durable at the price of weight. So many videos showing adaptations with other stoves so you can use with gas, multi-fuel, even twigs. Just you try and find a negative video on KZread. I'm sure it will last you a lifetime, so many adventures to look forward to. You could if you wish do a unique series of videos, Trangia with a twist your choice. Cheers for now. Graham

Hi Graham, thanks for stopping by. I hope your having a good weekend. I love the robust nature of Trangia products. I do have lots of gas stoves, and they do feel bit flimsy, I doubt any of them will last as long as this stove and cookset. I tried it out yesterday for the first time and loved it. My next vlog will be out next week, do pop back then and see how I go on. Take care.
