Tрамваи в Санкт-Петербурге: Trams in St Petersburg, Russia 2021

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Old and new trams! (Still can't believe some of these older trams are running the streets of St Petersburg!)
Trams in Saint Petersburg are a major mode of public transit in the city of Saint Petersburg, Russia. Saint Petersburg once had the second-largest tram network in the world, consisting of about 340 kilometres (210 mi) of unduplicated track in the late 1980s. However, since 1995 the tramway network has declined sharply in size as major portions of track were removed, particularly in the city centre. Saint Petersburg lost its record to Melbourne, Australia.[2] While it still had 285 kilometres (177 mi) of length in 2002, by early 2007 the tram network's had declined to just over 220 kilometres (140 mi), and by the 2010s operated on just 205.5 kilometres (127.7 mi) of network.
The system is operated by Gorelektrotrans, a municipal organization that operates St. Petersburg's 40 tram routes, as well as the city's trolleybus network. ~Wikipedia

Please comment if you have opinions or facts to share about the video or transit in general! Its a learning process for all of us and I enjoy being educated on what in the end we all love: transportation

The city of St. Petersburg is an architectural gem. GORGEOUS!!! Every district or zone shown of the city is a beaut to itself. And yes, love the trans. A very well planned combination of subway metro lines, surface trans lines, city buses, and microbuses....and even river ferries!!!!. Love it.

It's nice to see PCC cars still running in revenue service! Single enders, double enders, and Articulateds all running in a beautiful cityscape! Czar Peter should be proud of how well his crown jewel has held up throughout the centuries! Thank you for a colorful, and interesting, informative video!! Thanks again for your time and effort 👍🙏👏🙂😊🙌👍🙏👏

These aren't PCC lol. The only similarity here is that they have 4 axles, but PCC is not the only type where it was introduced.

@@mihan2d I would recommend the PCC books put out by Interurbans[now Pentrex],as they explain that two major car builders in old Soviet Union, had licenses to build PCC'S,one was Tatra, and the other was in Russia proper,( and I apologize,as I am working from memory, without access to my library)! Yes,by definition, they were/are PCC'S,and thankfully still running! Note, there were some PCC'S in Egypt, that looked anything else but,a conventional car! And also, being used in Tampa, replica Birney cars, having PCC trucks and controllers[that makes them PCC'S! The carbody came under a different set of patents, and don't forget the Rapid Transit models,as there were several body types, including Articulated cars! See Chicago CRT,and CTA,also Cleveland, for openers! Sorry for the long winded approach, but it's a complex subject! Thank you for your time and attention 🙏🙂😊☺😘!

@@roberthuron9160 Yes, I know there were licenced PCCs in USSR but I'm telling you, *there is not a single PCC-derived car on this video* because all the newer cars are completely their own semi-LF designs and this old historic one with fancy lights on the front (LM-33 replica) is just an early 2000s LM-99A car converted to look like an old Soviet tram. The looks can be deceiving! :)

The system is actually expanding again, one example is the Chizhik fast tram route and also line 3 reopened through the city center. The Wikipedia page needs to be updated! There are more extensions being built and planned.

Watching this video the most striking thing is neither the age of the trams, nor the fact that most of the track is on (very) busy streets. Rather it is that the trams (mostly 4-axle) are very small compared to those in most other parts of Europe.

@@Fan652w I love Tim's videos, pretty comprehensive (though I wish he included a bit more info) but when it comes to Russian transit his preferences are... odd. As if he avoids showing some vehicles in favor of others. And also it really starts to seem to me like he ditched a visit to Moscow altogether, despite Moscow transportation had changed like nothing you can ever even imagine since his last visit and there's just so much new things, heck even THREE completely new transport systems!!! I hope I'm wrong though :)

They're just modernized with some new equipment to give them extra few years in operation. St. Petersburg doesn't upgrade its trams nearly as fast as Moscow or even cities like Krasnodar
