Trains In The 1990's - Worksop & Toton, 19th May 1993

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A brief stop at Worksop to see 58024 pass on a MGR plus 56021 on another MGR(with a couple of Regional Railways Class 153's calling too), before heading to Toton where we see some more Class 58's and a Class 60 shunting, along with plenty of locos on the depot and others stored to the south. Filmed on 19th May 1993.

Thanks Steve. I was lucky enough to grow up with the Class 58's on the Midland(MGR's, Tarmac, and later aggregates and engineering trains), and had a tour of Toton when i was a kid where we got in the cabs of some brand new Class 58's.

Great shots - awesome sound from the Grid giving it the beans - jointed rails and semaphores as well - lovely

Thanks. Always good to see a Grid at work i'm sure you'll agree :-) Toton hasn't changed much over the years, just the classes and colours of locos stored there really.

Thanks Hayden. Yes, getting a Class 58 running again would be great, even if it was just for heritage lines to start. Toton's still worth a visit now with more Class 60's around, and pick the right time to go and you can see quite a bit of passing freight and engineering trains.

Cracking bit of footage Darren. I would love to see a 58 one day. Cheers for sharing :)

Great shots Darren. Excellent to see some footage of the 58's. I really hope that the 58 that is been restored at Barrow Hill will be able to operate on the mainline in the future - would be nice to see one running. Interesting shots from Toton, I hope to make a trip there myself during the year - although the sight won't be as good now as what it was for you in 1993!!

Born and bred in Worksop and have fond memories of loco's pulling 10's of Merry Go Round trains going past the station, B&Q, Tesco's, Rockware Glass. You could hear them from a mile away and you could feel the ground vibrate when one was coming. Also remember the livery of that loco at 2:52 with the yellow square with the 4 black sided quadangles even though i didn't know what company it was back then.

Thanks Ian. I thought you'd appreciate the sound of 56021, just a shame he backed off when it got closer. Proper old school footage with the track and semaphores too indeed.

+Brockwell Lane T.M.D Yes, these were some good days - the weather certainly seemed a lot better back then too! Cheers.

There was indeed a 45 for there for several years, and a Mk1 coach - appears in many of my photos, and probably other videos from here.

20 years ago.. Long and short I'd say with the single unit and the long wagon trains.. Totan....Always a good view there.

The 1 thing i always remember of Toton from that era was the class 45 (i think) that was stood waiting to be scrapped along with that mk1 coach. it seemed to be there for years.

Where does the time go? Shame there wasn't more freight passing, but those two are pretty good now in hindsight of course.

I don't think you'll find anywhere that looks the same in the years that followed me filming this, but certainly the liveries that have come and gone make a big change to the movies.

They're not great(somehow they were better as a 155 - even though that's essentially only two 153's!), but they do keep a lot of lesser used routes going I guess - a 21st century 'bubble car' I guess :-)
