That's the Peterborough of my late teens I remember well, parcels trains, Flyash, old and new DMUs, and still loco hauled trains. Interesting to see 'Rail Riders' as they've just made a return and now 66175 wears that name! Electrification today is certainly done very differently.

I was also a paid up member of the happiest club in the land. I think that was there motto. Or maybe my memory is not as good as I thought.

That was the beginning of a golden era of train travel for me. It was the beginning of 1987 when I purchased my first young person's rail card at 16 just turning 17. I lived in Peterborough from 1986 - 1999 and I enjoyed all my rail journeys I took between London's kings cross and Dundee all along the east coast between Newcastle and Edinburgh. The fares were cheap and I still traveled after passing the age for the railcard at 25. I was a member of the railriders club before hand. Despite having a car I have gone back to traveling by train again. I still did up ontil 2004 before I passed my driving test. I now live in Devon and still travel alot from here by train. That golden era still lives on.🤘🤘✌️🚂🚋🚅🚝🚞

Yes Brandon, traveling by Train is still the best way to get out and about, More so now days as the traffic on our roads gets worse.

@@royharrison4122 I agree, the traffic has got worse and I've driven all over the UK. Train travel is still the best way, especially now with the covid19 restrictions. It has killed of the overcrowding on the trains which is the best thing to happen. It's more expensive I know but it's cheaper in a way than what it costs to run a car each month with the cost of insurance, fuel, parking plus M.O.T and forking out money to pay for repairs when it goes wrong.

Flyash trains, parcels trains, 31s on passenger service; my goodness, how I miss it all... I used to look out of my school windows in the late 70s/early 80s to see what was on the flyash loop at Fletton.

One of my most favourite stations. I most looked forward to my week ranger ticket and go the Peterborough every day on the way to March sheds. Great spot to see the classic diesels 👍

Malcolm Crabbe it's not H&S that has changed but the insurance cover and the size of the fines.

Roy thanks again for uploading more excellent videos. Love the 80s action. 47406 must have been one of the first 47 into Intercity I think. Interestingly just watched your Trains at Peterborough - 1984, at 18:24 there is a 47 in blue, going on the size of the nameplate, the circular badge above it and what looks like a GD logo above the number I wondered if you captured 47406 in blue in the prequel to your Part 2.

I have had a look at that 47 and it is not any clearer on my original copy, but I think it is 47581 "Great Eastern", I have also searched for 47406 in blue, and found that the Nameplate did not have a plaque above it when it was first named.

@@royharrison4122 Thanks Roy. Had a look on line and it appears it was painted into Intercity by October 1985, and according to www.class47.co.uk the Crest was added in November 1985. So you are correct the loco I wondered about can't be 47406.

I remember the Fly ash trains! Which used to go to Fletton to fill in the clay pits dug out by the numerous Brickworks in the area! Anyone remember the smell from the Sugar Beet factory on the station?

    yeh...I remember "Rail Riders" 47 406...in Standard B.R Blue...not in I.C paintwork..the ECML was very interesting back then..with all those 47's & 31's etc...even 47 (2) 's...bugger me those were the hardest 47's to find...!!!.

Interesting to think that at that time they were saying "in a few years the HSTs will no longer rule on the East Coast" ... and they lasted 30 more years!
