With the EMR HSTs on their last stand, this brings us to a cold and wet Tuesday Evening of Midland Mainline services at Leicester. 🏴
Trains include:
- East Midlands Railway Class 222s and Class 43 (HSTs), Class 156s and 158s
- CrossCountry Class 170s
- GBRF Class 66s
Filmed on 6th January 2020, Between 14:30 and 15:45.

🚄 INFORMATION KEY
Train Numbers - e.g. 43032 or 800110 - These are train numbers which are specific to that train. No trains can be numbered the same. Locos are 5 digit numbers where the first two numbers are the class of train e.g. 67010 would be a class 67. Multiple Units are 6 digit numbers where the first three numbers are the class of train e.g. 390154 would be a class 390. Click Here to learn more

Headcodes - e.g. 1F32 or 5M00 - These are used by the railway signallers to determine where trains are on the network. Every train within a region has a specific four code ID. Click Here to learn more

Set Number - e.g. WB64 or NL04 - These are semi-permanent loco hauled coach formations which are kept together for formalities. The first two letters usually indicate the maintenance depot responsible e.g. OC is Old Oak Common, LA is Laira. The number indicates the rake number.

Great video, plenty of tones, great to see the ex. Grand Central class 43/4 from Sheffied to London and 156414 in the blue livery. Leicester is the good station and some freight passing through as well. Can you do trains at London Paddington and Ealing Broadway on the GWML.

Hi Arnold, I’ve been here to film probably 3+ times but never put the video out. If Great Western is what your after, you should be happy with some of the next videos then, it’s not Ealing Broadway, but it’s not even 15 stations away!

Why are there coaches in the background if some shots including DY22 service

Hi Lord Everything, the mk3 coaches in the background are stored and owned by D.A.T.S Ltd which is a Data Test and Measurement service which is currently used to test the Midland Mainline electrification infrastructure. The entire site where the locos/coaches are is known as Leicester L.I.P which is where UK Rail Leasing (UKRL) is based. Thanks for the question, its a very interesting place!
How do you find out the route and destination of these trains, I have been looking but can’t find any

In the HST formation what does the +NT mean?

Good question Dave! I completely forgot to add this new feature into the video description. On Loco and Coach sets, NL## is the formation number. In this case NL is the Neville hill depot (Leeds). Thanks for watching!

Hi SWRF, The NL sticker on the rear/front means the Powercar is maintained at Neville Hill (Leeds)
